Matt Moore + Mike Wallace can open up this offense with the deep ball..

The passing game certainly cant get much worse .If we lose against the Raiders and Tanny has not improved M.Moore is our only option .I do believe he will be able to complete more of those deep passes to Wallace to keep the defenses honest and stretch the field .And I think the drop ratio will go down.

You could say that Moore is an inmobile QB and that he probably will get sacked more but if you think about it ,Tanny is hardly using his ability to run and he has little pocket presence to avoid sacks so its a wash IMO.

 

Instead of the wildcat, maybe we can bring Sparano back and institute the WildMoore, a package that brings Moore in to the game to throw the deep ball.

 

I think that was a pretty insightful OP, but my question would be this:

Yes it's true that Moore throws a great deep ball. And I'm sure he could potentially connect on a few bombs. Are those couple of deep passes worth the headaches that come along with playing Matt Moore. Are you going to accept the ridiculous throws into coverage, the back breaking pick 6s, just to get a few deep passes to connect?

I like how people assume Matt Moore couldn't have improved with his time on the bench. That is time to drill down mechanics without them breaking down in games. Time to learn the playbook without pressure.

I'm not saying pull Tannehill. He gets until the game after the bye week from me.

 

I don't think you can pay Mike Wallace what you're paying him (i.e., the highest salary of any wide receiver in the league) and continue to play a QB who's struggling so mightily with the deep ball.

Wallace deep is the only exceptional playmaking strategy that the Dolphins' offensive personnel currently offers. If you don't capitalize on it, how then will you move the ball down the field? You at least need to capitalize on what you can do so that it can open up plays for other players. If you don't do that, then you're forced to rely on other players to make plays with abilities they don't have. Wallace and his QB (whoever it is) have to capitalize on Wallace's ability downfield so that the other players on offense can function better, and the offense as a whole can be more effective.

 

Perhaps Moore becomes the next Rich Gannon (in career path, not QB traits). After some time being a journeyman and backup, he finds the right offense and turns into an MVP type QB. I have nothing to back this up, just a wild n' crazy thought. I don't think there's any doubt he can throw the deep ball better than Tanny though.

As much as i don't want to give up yet on Tanny, it's more and more tempting everyday to push for moore to start.

 

If I don't see two touchdowns minimum by the half, a change has to be made. There is absolutely no excuse at all, with all the receiver options we have and Clay, we should be scoring AT MINIMUM 24 POINTS PER GAME from offensive drives alone. 24 points per game with this defense is good enough to make a run at the division title.

The Chiefs had so many key defensive players out and we scored a mere 15 points, it's pathetic, there's no excuse.

So Tannehill must get his **** together NOW.

 

The deep ball isn't the problem with this offense, and it isn't really a solution to the actual problems.

If Tannehill is having problems adjusting to what has been asked of him in the new offense, it's quite likely Matt Moore will have the same issues. The problem is largely learned stuff, and Moore is a notoriously bad practice player. Did they change Moore's footwork and throwing motion? The route depths will still be an issue, as will probably the option routes.

 

Agreed.

 

People suffering strongly of "backup QB syndrome" on this forum. Those expecting Moore to step in and be significantly better going forward are setting themselves up for a huge disappointment.

 

Sone of us felt he was a borderline starter in the league all along.

 

Tannehill's YPA on passes thrown at least 20 yards in the air is 2.4. The league average in that area right now is somewhere between 12 and 14 yards. Tannehill has to be in less than the 5th percentile in the league in that area, and I suspect defensive coordinators know it.

 

Well when the only direction to go is up, what's there to lose?

 

Tanny has yet to connect deep. It is a problem. His!!! As much as I hoped he was the answer at QB, he isn't.

 

If we make it t 9-7 with Moore and we miss out on a QB in the draft, at least it will give you the chance to complain about our 3rd round pick QB. I say let Tannehill play. I much prefer us to lose a bunch of games and clean a dirty house than to push everything under the carpet and in the dark corners and be right here next year playing the same old song on the same worn out fiddle that we've been playing for the past 10+ years. Putting band-aids over this team won't help much. We have a team leading the league in dropped pass percentage at 9.7% (second is 8.1%) and total drops at 12 (next is 8). We're dropping 4 passes per game. Neither of these QB's are good enough to overcome bad surrounding play and on the off-chance Matt Moore has some elixir that makes receivers not named Mike Wallace catch, I that could cloud our judgement. I'd prefer we start recognizing that from top to bottom this is a mediocre to poor team with mediocre to poor coaching.

If we somehow turn it around, I'll accept being wrong about the team, but at this point, any action that saves Tannehill and/or Philbin's jobs save Tannehill actually playing well is doing a disservice to the team and the fans. Focusing on short-term profitability on the field will lead to me having to read this thread for the next 5 years in a different format and has led to us having to read this thread for almost the past 15 years.

 

I was NEVER one of those who felt that way. I've said this before, throwing a nice lob pass up that B Marshall can fight for (which was really M Moore's best passes that season) is very different than hitting Mike Wallace in stride. I do not have the confidence that Moore can do much better than Tannehill. If the coaches felt that way, then you think they would have seen it in practice. The second assumption, that Moore can operate Lazor's offense any better than Tannehill is also purely speculative and based on nothing more than a couple of drives in preseason. Given Moore's propensity to make stupid mistakes in the past, not sure why people believe he won't do the same in the new offense.

I think we should put in Moore and give Tannehill a couple of games to watch from the bench and maybe, just maybe, it will help him overcome his obvious issues at this time.Yes, I know about all of the dropped passes, pass protection, etc, but when you run a 4.5 but are afraid to run, or worse yet, you don't see it in time then sitting back and watching for a game or two cannot hurt.Also, I realize Moore's limitations but we have to try something.I have been a diehard Dolfans since 1966, their start and it is only fair to the fans to not ride out the season at 1-2 and stay status Quo.I was upset in the draft that we did not draft a young QB to give Tannehill some competition.That has been part of his problem is he knows that he has no competition so this just might be the wakeup call that he needs.Thanks all for listening and.....go Dolphins!!P.S. the season is not lost at 1-2!!

If you do the math on the relationship between YPA differential and winning, the team stands to win no more than two games as it stands right now, if its offensive passing efficiency doesn't improve.

I think people are underestimating just how weakly associated with winning Ryan Tannehill's performance is right now. He's giving the team a very poor chance of winning right now.

 

Playing Moore is not going up. There is no future with Moore. Moore won't step in and be pro-bowl quality and lead this team to suberbowl contention. Anything Moore will do is, at best, suck just as much or more, and set the team up to improve through the draft and get these fools coaching the team fired; and at worst, be a little better, win a couple more games, and screw the team up at least another year by keeping the team in the "good enough to compete, but not good enough to do anything significant" limbo.

There is no upside to playing Moore. None.

 

Tannehill won't get better sitting on the bench. You bench Tannehill for Moore, you're throwing the towel on him.

 

exactly. Don't know why people thru history thinks that will ever work. If our coaching staff (bless their ignorant hearts) comes to the conclusion that we are done with Tannehill, then you put in Matt Moore.

 

Moore is a veteran in this league and he has never shown to be anything more than a dependable journeyman QB. To expect him to step in and do anything significant now and for the future with this team, with these coaches, is a lot of wishful thinking. And by a lot, I mean A LOT!

Benefit for the team, maybe, for the QB, doubtful. Tannehill won't improve by not playing. He is no longer a green rookie. You either give him a chance to play through his struggles and hope he does, or you give up on him and think about the team. Benching Tannehill now in this pivotal junction of his career is pretty much giving up on him for this team.

Why do we insist on making Ryan tannehills feelings better, hes getting paid to do a job he's not doing so what if you throw in the towel? you essentially are paying for something your not getting. Not only are you paying tanny to do a job he's not doing he's not allowing your 90 million $ player to do what he does best. On the question of can we live with the pick 6 throws into coverage from Moore? abso-freakin-lutley what will it hurt we are settling for 3 and outs or taking 7 minutes to go 40 yards and punt right now, id gladly take a guy who takes chances over someone who wants to hit 5 yard passes. one HOF made a living off it (brett favre) not saying Moore is Brett Favre by any means all im saying is this. IN college everyone is open in the NFl no one is open and you have to force and throw receivers open tanny cant and is unwilling to do so, so if benching him lets us only win 6 games instead of 5 then bench him its about winning not about someone's feelings and we need to bring him along bs. The issue is what happens if your magic pill doesn't work? If I am Rt and I am benched I would say fark you trade me.

What if drop passes continue? What if the better accuracy doesn't outweigh increased ints? What if defense still allows opposition to do what they please? What if Landry continues to field punts inside the 5 yard line? What if ST still gives up big plays? What then? Your magic fix all is used up
