Because tannehill is way down the list of worries. An offensive line that blocks like swiss cheese, receivers dropping balls left and right, a defensive scheme that has our best pass rushers covering running backs....if philbin is worried about tannehill most he should be fired for ignorance

It's interesting how you assert things with no evidence. Then, you disregard evidence provided by others by positing something then saying "Who knows?". It's amazing how 100% right you are about everything you've ever posted.

Philbin is the same guy who couldn't look players in the eye on Hard Knocks. All those little weird annoying things we saw on the show are really starting to show themselves to be signs of a much larger problem with Philbin. He is woefully out of touch with his players and with people in general. He has some abhorrent social skills and awareness, I almost think he might have some slight case of Asperger's.

Oh yeah, I don't mean to suggest that Philbin isn't at fault for what was said/not said, just that there was some impetus for the question in the first place. I think Philbin will deserve to be fired after this season, and the trajectory Tannehill is on will relegate him to the status Moore now holds. Don't know if Ross has it in himself to get rid of everyone (Hickey) or not.

As cold as it sounds, this trait crossed my mind when the Jon Martin thing happened and it made me think of an emotionally absent 'Father figure'.... made me wonder if this isn't the same lack of looking at reality that led to his son's death (suicide?) on Joe's watch.

Stunning aversion to reality leads to things like that. Our own sports version of "Ordinary People".

But..wouldnt the distraction be from the outside..where else would it come from..it just seems like that part of it is obvious

Barry brings up a good point, where was this BS "the best 46 will play" excuse back before the season when we had uncertainty with the guard position?

The offensive line is surrendering less frequent pressure on Ryan Tannehill than the average NFL line, and in fact there are 19 offensive lines in the league that are worse in that regard.

As for dropping balls, Tannehill's receivers at A&M had the same problem.

The next time Section and I among others recommend the team hire the sexiest head coaching candidate during a coaching search:

Then hire that guy. Instead of, you know, the creature from Pan's Labyrinth...

I'm sorry if I conveyed that impression, as it certainly wasn't my intent. I'm actually very uncertain about this whole issue. I don't know, for example, whether what Philbin said is a distraction or an inspiration.

I remember before the immediacy of news and reading an article where NFL coaches and figures picked the one player they wanted or would start a team with , Shula picked Jones.

When determining whether the issue is a distraction versus an inspiration for the team as a whole, no, it's not, because it's entirely possible that the player being "targeted" is going to experience the issue much differently from the majority of the team. It could be a distraction for Tannehill personally, while being an inspiration for the majority of the team.

Well..Tannehill said it was a distraction for him..and his team mates have been forced to answer him starting questions all week.

All we know is it was a distraction for him. As to others..they havent said one way or another so I agree with you there really is no way of knowing short them actually saying

Failure to apply even his own rule uniformly doesn't mean it's not real. He may have failed to apply that rule then, or may have felt it didn't matter.
It might be that this whole 'policy' is, in the long-term, evade or negate media problems by always giving the same answer especially when the media might take something from it. Maybe before the media, as well as on the field, facing potential damage/threat he opts to play it safe and so goes with the 'none answer', not realising in this case, that the answer which would better defuse the situation might be the affirmative rather than the dismissive.

Bottom-line for me, I am beginning to think that Philbin does operate in his own world, and that's fine, as long as your world is the real one. Other franchises have done it, so far it's not proven to be the case for Philbin.

Evidently he's a good man, a caring individual, and he's faced his own traumas, so it doesn't feel right to cross the line and insult him, but, is he a good coach? Hypothetically everyone is, in reality...time will continue to tell.

Nah, I think at this point what's more likely to happen is that Tannehill has a marginal game against a decent Raiders pass defense and they switch to Moore during the bye.

It'll be a shame because I think he needs a few more games in the offense, but hey.

    Circular logic.

Considering the personnel hasn't really changed outside of the addition of Landry, would you care to explain why Tannehill's receivers have dropped a league-leading 9.7% of their passes thus far [according to sportingcharts.com] despite dropping the 24th fewest last year, 4.1%?

Have you examined every route run this year to see how they compare to 2013 in order to rule out whether or not Tannehill's pass catchers might be adjusting to a change in routes [you know- since different routes require the ball to be caught differently, and because different routes can carry different degrees of catching difficulty]? Hypothetically, if Miami's receivers are accustomed to catching gobs of easier hitches and comebacks where they're closer to being stationary and squared up with Tannehill while also using their stomach/chest as a third hand, then it's possible for them to experience growing pains while adjusting to routes that have them catching the ball on the move and with their hands more frequently.

It's hilarious that you hold Tannehill fully and solely responsible for his own job but then turn around and refuse to hold everyone else accountable for theirs. Do you ever maintain a proper level of consistency?

stop moving the goal posts. When people tell you what's "entirely possible", you condemn it b/c it isn't based on hard fact even though it's supported by logic. Now here you are- flipping the script by telling your opposition what's "entirely possible" in order to support your argument that says we're not allowed to formulate opinions or reach educated conclusions based on what's "possible". LOL. Anyone else see the irony here?

“Obviously, it doesn’t feel good,” Tannehill said. “It creates a bunch of stir and distraction in the locker room, mostly from the outside coming in, just guys having to deal with the distraction of it.”

Sure sounds like inspiration to me.:wink2:

well if the players are wasting their time worrying about the QB ineptness when there is ineptness in their own group then this season is a waste. they should be far more concerned with their own crappy play honestly.. SMH

What we have is a situation where one of two things are possible:

    - Tannehill is struggling with the new offense. That's not crazy or improbable.

    OR

    - Tannehill is not a very good QB and is not the answer. That's also not crazy or improbable.

Regardless of either scenario, I fail to see benching him as the answer. He either needs the time to improve or we need to suck to get a shot at a better QB next draft.

What amazes me is pointing at Cautious Coach Joe instead of his shoddy play.

I can only imagine how much Philbin dislikes what Tannehill has been doing out on the field, this is a guy who picks up gum wrappers, to say something publicly screams at what the Staff thinks of Tannehill's play so far this season.

I suspect Tannehill is making a ton of mistakes from reads to the plays that should be called from those reads
