Do we really want Harbaugh? Seems Players don't!

Short answer: Yes, we want Harbaugh.

 

I absolutely want Philbin gone.

But, I do NOT want Jim Harbaugh.

I'll take a great coach whose players don't necessarily like him over a not-very-good coach whose players don't necessarily like him.

You guys realize that the best coach in the history of the sport, the guy who made this franchise one of the premier teams in pro sports, was hated by his players during his best years, right?

 

Love winning but not the way Harbaugh does. Little decisions against his team and he is jumping around throwing his dummy out of his cot. Poor sportsman.

I do not want to see this every sunday on my tv. At present i have a choice whether i see his cry baby antics. If he became coach here i would have no choice but to see him behaving like a toddler.

For "not being on the same page", the 49ers defensive effort was AMAZING. Philly's 21 points came by way of a blocked punt for a TD, punt return for TD, and a pick 6. San Francisco's D completely SMOKED Philadelphia's offense. This without Aldon Smith, Navarro Bowman and Glenn Dorsey. The team was also down multiple scores fairly early and came back.

I watched that entire game and the only time I got the sense that Harbaugh wasn't on the same page was when Colin Kaepernick called a boneheaded time out when he shouldn't have (San Francisco was trying to run out the clock to take a delay of game penalty to give their punter more room to pin Philly deep late in the 4th. Kaepernick called timeout. Andy Lee then punted it into the endzone. Touchback for Philly.). Harbaugh just gave him a look on the sidelines...as any NFL coach would have to their QB when they made that poor of a decision. Didn't matter though as San Francisco picked off Foles the next drive.

For not being on the same page, that was an outstanding defensive effort and a lot of resiliency shown against a quality opponent. Take that however you like.

But yes, I'd take Jim Harbaugh in a heartbeat. If he brings Vic Fangio with him, that's cool with me too.

 

I love notes like this. It brings us one step closer to landing him.

Hell yes. And whose to say: 1 - Reports are entirely true. and 2 - The players are right.

There were times players weren't happy with Shula during the season. The 49ers still win.

 

I am very concerned that Jim Harbaugh, as much as I respect him and think he is a terrific coach would amount to nothing more than Nick Saban 2.0. I believe he should go back to the college game as I believe it fits him more. Just like Nick.

I'd love Harbaugh here. I was bummed Ross ****ed up and didn't court him right the first time.

 

No, don't like Harbaugh...not that one, anyway... Guy has issues wherever he's been, even as a player... He wears on his coaches and players and apparently his FO...That said, if Harbaugh comes available, I think Ross would trip all over himself trying to get him here...

 

There was a flat out player mutiny in Baltimore the year John Harbaugh beat brother Jim in the Super Bowl. There were players only meetings and Ed Reed among other spoke out against John Harbaugh and staff.

**** happens in the NFL, on a long enough timeline. There have been player insurrections against Bill Belichick at times. It's how you manage through all that and keep the team winning that I think helps define you as a coach.

 

They feared him and resented him. Hate is probably too strong a word.

 

Fair enough. All I'm saying is that it doesn't matter if the players LIKE their coach, in my opinion. Players LIKED Tony Sparano, or so I kept hearing. Players have never liked Tom Coughlin, yet he's won two Super Bowls in the past decade. What matters is if the coach is good, and the players respect his competence.

Honestly, all the Harbaugh talk makes me depressed, because I just know there is no way this organization will be fortunate enough to somehow luck into landing a coach of that caliber this January. I don't trust Steve Ross to pull the trigger on Joe Philbin if the team makes the playoffs, even though better coaches than Joe have been fired after playoff seasons. I don't trust Ross not to bungle getting his man.

I second that. I really, really don't like the guy. He's a total ***, rubs virtually everyone the wrong way, defends or pleads ignorance to problems the way a PR spokesman for a dictator would, and on top of all that, is a risk to bolt to a college job at any time. We've done deals with the devil twice in the last decade with Saban and Tuna. I'm not looking to be burnt a third time.

I want a somewhat likable guy who's been there and done that as the HC of an NFL team before. There are plenty of guys like that coaching in the league today, but the Fins seem to be allergic to them.

They complained about a young Don Shula back then, too. Don was a hard-***. Don't get me wrong, I am not comparing Harbaugh to Shula in terms of coaching greatness, but the idea that a coach has to be loved by his players is just not something I agree with, and I think our own franchise's history bears that out.

 

Dan Quinn, John Gruden, Gus Malzahn would be my top three in no order. Gruden being the least popular name to fans, but I think as long as he is only a coach and not a GM he'd be great here.

If I was a player I'd run through a brick wall just to take a bullet for Gruden.

Harbaugh is an *******, a complete total and utter *******, I wouldn't want him at my next barbeque but he can coach my football team. I don't have to work with the guy and players get paid millions of dollars, they can put up with his demeanor, if my boss was a dick but I made millions I'd be alright with it and I'd work as hard as I could for him.

 

Id be very happy with Jon Gruden. Dont know anything about Dan Quinn..can *** elaborate some..thanks

 

I didn't like Harbaugh when he was a QB, and I certainly don't like him now. They guy is a pompous jerk. Hiring him as head coach of the Dolphins would be an extreme disappointment to me. Win or lose, I'd have a very difficult time rooting for a guy like him.

 

47 years old, Seahawks defensive coordinator beginning 2013. His first season was the year their defense took the major leap to leadibg the league in almost every category. Before that he was the DC for University of Florida who always has a very stout defense. Before becoming DC at UF he was a defensive line coach for us, the Jets, and Seattle who he rejoined as DC after UF.

He's basically a defensive mastermind who doesn't out think himself.

Personally..I want an established HC now. Harbaugh, Gruden, Cowher, Rex Ryan

But the top three up there will have no issues getting the best coaches to fill out their staffs.

 

The 49ers have to be up there as the worst penalized team in the NFL... and that comes from coaching...

 

The 9ers Have one of the best records in the NFL over last 3 years..

That comes from coaching. Joe Philbin has the Dolphins as one of the least penalized teams in the NFL. You keep Joe..Ill take Jim.

 

From 2011 to 2013, if you add up the offensive and defensive penalty ratings for all teams over that span, the 49ers rank #24 out of 32...which is hardly daunting. Even if you account for 2014 that ranking only moves down to #25 out of 32.

Just seems a bit like grasping at straws.

 

Not a fan of Cowher. I'd take Rex but damn I'd prefer him as a DC. Though I imagine he will get a HC gig.

 

I still can't believe that basically half the posters on this message board would not want Harbaugh.

I mean, after 14 years without winning a playoff game, I'd just assume Dolphin fans would want a guy who doesn't know what it's like to miss the playoffs. I assumed wrong.
