Philbin should have went home on the Packers' plane to begin work on putting together an epic powerpoint for next week's Packers game... That's what he'll be doing next year around this time, might as well get a head start on it.

I know that Ross has no clue about the football side of things, but I'm glad he hired Marino so Marino could reiterate the things Dan Patrick said on the radio.

Ross probably sees the loss as oh we lost to an elite team but we hanged in there! Marino will inform him the cardinal sins that were made that caused the loss. Very bad deflating loss, I expect us to look flat next week against Chicago, and then after Jacksonville, if we lose to the Jaguars and give them their first win (wouldn't be the first time Philbin does that, look at Tampa Bay's game last year), I expect Philbin to be let go.

He said that if this happened in Week 16, that would be a fireable offense. And then went on to talk about everything Philbin did wrong yesterday. Glad this was on national radio, where a bunch of athletes including our own players listen to.

Cole's opinion on this matter is no different than the average fan, he has no inside information and is speculating that if they don't view him as a leader its just a matter of time before he loses the locker room. Well no **** Sherlock.

Except Cole said he's actually talked to players, who all say they like Philbin as a person, but do view him as a leader of men and question whether he is fit for the job.

Actually what he said is he thinks Philbin is a lieutenant and not a general and he feels like the players echo that sentiment, he never says any player actually said that. In other words, he's not saying anything at all and is just speculating.

Cole specifically said that he spoke to Miami Dolphins players about Joe Philbin.

I don't think that's hard to believe. David Canter does nothing but rip the coaching staff and he talks to Miami Dolphins players on a daily basis.

Pretty sure Coles right on...I mean...its not like we all would expect them to be rallying around Philbin. Hes proven ...hes not a good HC. Hes a good assistant. I just wish Ross would make a move now before the season gets out of hand. I think the team could rally around a change...I know the fans would. We arent gonna win anything with him here..so...make the change...see what happens.

Can't fire him after a 3 point loss to an elite quarterback in the final 3 seconds, can you?

And a loss to the Bears probably puts a huge nail in our season's coffin. No way outta this mess but a miracle.

unfortunately, as much as we all loved watching the stomping of the raiders, a loss probably would have gotten Philbin fired.
I don't see any harm in firing Philbin now. the only relevant question is who do you promote? Coyle or Lazor?

I think a loss to the Bears effectively ends our season. The players would likely not have faith in the coaching staff anymore and everything would go on a downward spiral from there. We'd have to win 7 out of 10 games to even make it to 9-7 (which does not guarantee playoffs) against the likes of the Chargers, Broncos, Ravens and Lions, aside from our division games which are usually very tough anyway...

Joe Philbin can't lose a locker room he never really had in the first place.

The bigger deal is Kevin Coyle losing the defensive players. That's an actual loss. That's the unit on the team with the most pride and confidence, they're the unit that is really the reason we win games when we do win them, and they used to have a lot more faith in Coyle than they currently do.

Amazing that the Dolphins have the second most efficient pass-defense in the NFL, but there is contention between Coyle and the players. I am curious as to how much the problems are with Coyle, and not Philbin.

If the players had faith in the head coach then there is that power to keep them somewhat inline, in my opinion. But Philbin is all but an absentee head coach as far as the players are concerned so they're more concerned with what's right in front of them and you've got veterans who aren't afraid to speak their mind and who know some things about football openly questioning some of Coyle's game plans and defensive calls.

I agree with you though, relative to their performance level it's kind of amazing that a unit playing so well can be on the verge of revolt against the guy in charge of them...but then again, hey look at the situation out in San Francisco. They're playing well, but everyone says there's discord anyway.

Where does that stat come from? They are 13th in passer rating right now, they've given up three 100+ passer rating games so far, which isn't terrible against Rodgers but not so good against Smith and pretty terrible against EJ Manuel.

Is the second most efficient pass-defense in the NFL second best in the league or second worst?

he should be fired today. Philbin brings nothing to the table & his decision making is awful. let lazor have it & let Hickey do all the evaluations for this team & its next HC

They probably believe the coaching staff is holding them back and that they should be a top defense if not for the coaches.
Maybe the lack of leadership on the coaching staff and the whole "stronger together"/credo thing strengthened the players so much that it actually distanced themselves from the coaches, to the point that they think they are playing well DESPITE the coaches.

There are two situations where the players will figure out and get pissed off at the coaches for it, because their players and it's about as simple as it gets in terms of coaching mistakes in their eyes.

The offensive players will be pissed because they know they played like sh&$ in the first half, and had a last second chance to redeem themselves, ball on the Green Bay 43 yards line, enough time to get in field goals range, 4th and 3, and the coaches said, sit down, we don't trust you..

The defense for playing a hell of a game, made the close out play on third down, crowd was on their feet, they had them on the ropes, and bam, monkey wrench, called timeout..now who knows how the destiny would of changed but players will get in their own minds and think they could of controlled the outcome better than the coaches.

Even if at one point we're 2-8 there's going to be fans that will rather us win and go 8-8 and get the 16th pick overall rather than lose out and get a Top 3 draft pick.

Yes I believe they think the coaches are holding them back. No I don't think it really is a result of any credo or policy or anything like that. If anything it's the result of a few years of Philbin's uncharismatic, non-confrontational, passive-aggressive style of coaching combined with the 20 losses they've taken over the course of 37 games.

Actually I think it's the opposite, the defense that will be pissed about the 4th & 3...and I think that's why Kevin Coyle came up to Philbin and had some words for him on the sidelines. The defense had been playing with their hair on fire in the first half, allowing only 10 points despite Tannehill turning the ball over twice.

But Philbin made the call that showed fear that Aaron Rodgers was going to run down the field and get a quick score with only 30 seconds left on the clock. That's all Rodgers would have had, just 30 seconds and he would have needed to legitimately gain probably 25 to 30 yards in those 30 seconds to give Mason Crosby a good chance of getting 3 points. Your defense is strong, they've been making plays all day, but now you're afraid they're going to give up 30 yards in 30 seconds? I think the DEFENSE was a little insulted by that.

Yeah, even Ryan Tannehill who is usually a level-headed guy seems to be annoyed with Philbin. Is there any way Philbin is still fired even if we make it to the playoffs? I really don't want to root for us to lose, but with each passing week I realize how terrible of a coach Joe Philbin is and would hate to have him back next year...

again, you're making the same assumption as a few years ago, that we would get a high enough pick to pick Winston. Even if we tanked, we could end up 4th worst in the league. and with the talent on our defense, I don't see us with less than 5 or 6 wins, unlikely to get Winston.
