Except his receivers were (are?) leading the league in drops this season. Just for starters.

While Tannehill is now being helped by an above average running game and above average pass protection.

If a QB can ONLY be successful if he's surrounded by a great run game, AND great pass protection, AND explosive weapons, AND receivers with sticky hands, and needs everything around him to be perfect, then maybe that QB isn't very good.

This thread wouldn't exist if they even suffered a league-average amount of drops.

That's assuming that they DID drop the ball at a disproportionate rate over the course of 35+ games, which isn't true. Miami was among the league average in drops last year. It's this year that it's disproportionate..... and it could be something as simple as adjusting to new routes etc that weren't run as frequently in Sherman's offense. Lazor has receivers catching the ball on the move a lot more than Sherman did.

Plenty of people, before the season started, were pretty happy about Lazor being here and his offense, and said they understood there'd be growing pains...forgot pretty damn quickly.

Or maybe that QB is a young, raw prospect learning a new offense? I just don't get it. I would understand if Tannehill had been a 4 year college starter, and was on a team for three years that had solid blocking, a consistent run game, and hadn't changed the offense, and people were down in him for where he's at. But that isn't the scenario he was put into.

Our o-line is ranked top 10 in both pass pro and run blocking.

That's a little misleading unfortunately. Ranking 10th in both would lead us to believe the offense should be humpin' along on a weekly basis; however, the reality is they play great one game, terribly the next, great the next one, inconsistently the next, then terrible the next half followed by great the next 26 minutes and then back to terrible the final 4 minutes. I'd rather see them consistently good than great-bad-inconsistent-great-bad/great.

His YPA is 6.2, and it's a problem. He hasn't improved in that department at all. Very few big plays, and he's not good at hitting guys on time in stride in space. (We should bench Hartline, though.)

You're not going to consistently beat good teams with that YPA, and that # makes the playoffs a tough task. Trouble is that his YPA was also quite poor in college. He was consistently in the bottom third (or worse) of the country even in that A&M offense. That's the bigger worry. Is this just who he is?

Football outsiders DVOA. last year we were 28th run and 30th pass for some perspective, so the worst overall last year. Probably top 5 overall right now. Last time they were just above average was 2008.

    That's a false scenario.

What are the odds that the 3 main WRs are poor? What are the odds the line breaks a team record for sacks? What are the odds that after 4 games our team would lead the league in drops? What are the odds you could have an NFL QB playing in his first new offense.....since high school?

Have to do this. Until/unless Tanny proves to be our guy. I think on this board for Tanny to be our guy he wd have to throw 5k yards, 40 TD's and have one INT and that because it was tipped.

Certainly above average in dumb organizational decisions.

And lead the league in gutless coaching.

Make excuses for mediocre QB play and you wind up with a mediocre QB. Self fulfilling prophecy

Then the reverse should be true, correct? Act like we have a HoF QB, and he'll play like one, right?

Then every WR is the same. Every oline is the same. There is no difference in talent across the board and Tannehill is the worst QB in the modern era.

No, every WR is not the same. Not every DL is the same. Not every QB has Cam Wake rushing the opposing passer. You can point out specific deficiencies, but you're essentially suggesting that dozens of variables have all worked disproportionately against someone.

That isn't a measure of efficiency.

Right now, the Dolphins are second in the NFL in yards per play allowed.

You are the one that made the assertion that variables even out over time, so it would be your job to support that assertion.

I'm not sure how else you would measure how good an nfl defense is. Total points reflect things the offense does, as well as luck.

Man do I ever agree with this....Philbin has cost us so many close games with his decisions..call me crazy but I would almost swear that on 4th & 10 that Philbin could see that Rodgers badly needed help with no timeouts so he could regroup...so what does he do???? Calls a defensive timeout when we have the momentum...what?? Looks almost like he himself had money on the game for Green Bay to win..straight up...why was he not fired?

How many plays does the defense allow, though? If they are #2 for yards per play, but give up tons of plays, isn't that just as bad as giving up fewer plays, but a higher yard per play? Like, you can't just pull out "yards per play" and act like that tells any sort of story.
