we should be giving the Jax defense some credit. Right now, there Dline is top 3 or 4 in league IMO the last few games.
for once (lately) I agree with you 100%. In red zone we should either be running the ball or rolling Tannehill out either for bootleg or just run it to the corner of the endzone. It really feels like we avoid that altogether in the redzone.
Glancing through the thread and I think Dj's got a good point regarding Lazor and play-calling early in games. I think it'd be good to get Tannehill moving just to give the defense something to think about. It doesn't even necessarily have to be the zone-read. I think they should be utilizing rollouts more often in the passing game. If Tannehill can scramble off of that, just as well. But against teams like Jacksonville, or three teams we'll see soon that get after the QB - Detroit, Buffalo and Denver - it'd be a good way to keep edge rushers at bay a little more; especially if our interior is going to be as shoddy as it was today. I think Miami should be able to build plays off of that. We've seen the little half-roll play hit big the past two games to Clay and Sims, and the deep ball to Wallace today was pretty nice. Miami needs to use that and I think it'll help get Lamar Miller more room to run as well. He's shown well, but man, today he didn't have much to work with for most of the game.
ok, 1 time, and look what happened.. the point is, we cannot Expect to win December football games trotting out what we did in the first half against legitimate teams.so I'm trying tocome up with what I think is wrong, and my solution is to do what our qb is quite lethal at.. My criticism for our qb is that he needs to take it upon himself at times to run for a first down and help the offense.. Are either of these things I'm suggesting out of bounds because he averages 4 carries a game at 8 yards a carry? The man is a dual threat qb..accept it,embrace it, and win.
I think (I'm speculating here) that when you have first time coaches (head or coordinators), they tend to have an idea of precisely how they want things to go and are hesitant or down right stubborn to deviation from that vision. These are alphas after all. We saw it with Philbin, we saw it Coyle and we're seeing it with Lazor. Philbin has turned the corner on being stubborn I believe. He's constantly reassessing his approach to everything. I think Lazor is fighting his previously held vision right now.
Tanny needs to move a little more in the pocket. Marino was very good at that. He wasn't what you'd call a mobile QB in the sense of taking off and running, but he was elusive in the pocket. He'd make little moves that helped him avoid the rush and open passing lanes. He ought to talk to the QB coach or Tanny; maybe that could be of help with the batted balls. Who knows; maybe that's instinctive, or maybe it can be taught.
I think that's a very fair point to bring up, especially with Lazor being new. I think that he's been good overall. There just seems to be a stretch in every game where you wonder what is going on. Some of that may be from him not having a vantage point of being in the booth perhaps, but hopefully that Miami is essentially halfway through the regular season he'll get things ironed out. Obviously, some of that could very well be on Tannehill at the LOS too.
College literally ruined three drives, and give Jax some credit, they have NFL players too. I have no issue with the play calling, there really wasn't much of an opportunity to go deep in the playbook early and there was no need to do it late. As it's been pointed out, tough stretch coming up so put a little of our stuff on tape as possible.
There could also be other factors we just aren't privy to without the benefit of access. I mean he may have the perfect call in mind, but personnel on the field at that precise moment may dictate what he calls.
The whole DC migraine issue though impacts the first quarter tremendously and has to be factored in imo .
Truth is Miami lost today but somehow the score reflects differently. Rt and philbin both had predictable responses. They did not rally to hold. On to a win. Haha handed them the game on a silver platter despite the enormous efforts put into not accepting. Same crap different year
I understand what Shoes means, but fortunately, Delmas and Grimes are part of the team, too. The two pick sixes count. Ohio is also right -- Jax has a good defense.
My Its very hard for me to explain what I'm seeing but Im just very confident that this qb needs to be on the move every drive, especially early in the football game, I'm also very confident that the defense knows that when he drops they don't worry about him running (and that simply must change, I mean think about that ya'll?, a qb who has the ability doesn't ever make the defense pay on his own), and I'm very confident that if you have a qb that can make good decisions in the read option system, and has the speed to rip a defense if they hesitate, then we shouldn't be capping or worrying about a specific number of carries, we should be putting ourselves in the best possible positions to move the football in critical situations, and no one can tell me that there is a better way for this qb to move this offense, than to move him around more than 4 carries, have him roll out more than once a game, and teach him to run from the pocket from time to time to keep the defense honest..
we were never in danger of losing this game. It was never "comfortable" but we never lost control of the game. Colledge got blown up and looked completely lost, so i believe the migraine. It was reminiscent of last seasons horrid Oline play in the first half. Tannehill not even getting 3 seconds. Once they corrected this though things went back to normal for us.
perfect example here, you mean to tell me that at that point and time, moving this kid out of the pocket, if your gonna throw on first down, isn't the right call? just talking in general, not at you..
I agree. It is encouraging that he did exactly that on the big pass to Sims, by stepping up to evade the rush. To be great, however, he has to do it consistently.
very spot on, those batted passes, the three that i saw were with good protection, open space to follow thru, and absolutely no sliding at all from the qb..just a ''little'' being the key phrase.
ok..i understand that, but I still feel there are plenty of ops early to move this qb.. I mean do you think its right to have a qb who can throw beautifully going in either direction, and a qb who has 4.5 seed, to have on average 1 rollout a game and about .5 runs from the pocket? can anyone seriously tell me that this is not an issue? can you tell me there is no correlation to what I'm saying relative to the maddening inconsistency? knowing what our qb does well, is anyone gonna tell me your confident that we can win a playoff game, having our athletic qb have 4 carries, 1 rollout, and a 1/2 a qb run from the pocket?
I don't think this is a game we should have lost, but gaining 50+ yards in the first half was pretty disappointing. Our passing offense with a QB who supposedly turned the corner threw up a 73 QBR. Our defense scored more than our offense, and their offense. We literally didn't need Tannehill today (I"m being facetious of course). Our defense is a part of our team, but what happens when you face a QB that doesn't throw 25 INTs a year? I'm always happy for the win, but somehow this win concerns me.
Like I told my son who is also a huge Dolfan....we have to stop leaving points on the field or it will come back to haunt us in a close game
Better to win playing badly than play bad and get destroyed! Hopefully this is our bad performance out of the way, especially with our next few games.
One thing with this game that I am very pleased with is how good tannehill looked in the pocket. The sideline pass to wallace was perfect and the step up to avoid the rusher on the pass to sims was beauty. All of that time forcing tannehill to be a pocket passer is really starting to pay off in year three. We will not jhave to be a simplified read option offense. We will be able to run a conventional and more effective offense with a pocket passer going through his reads. I think at this stage, the coaching staff should only bring out the running plays for tannehill when we need a kickstart to the offense. When we face face ferocious pass rushing defenses like the jags, bills or lions in a couple of weeks. With teams like san diego next week we should run tanny very sparingly. Keep going with the development of tannehill in the pocket. Its really starting to pay off
I notice parts of Tannehills game really starting to come along. For one, his deep ball placement is getting MUCH better. I hope teams move up and dare us to go over the top now. Hes pump faking more...I saw him again yesterday pump fake to get a lineman to jump. That throw to Sims, he would not have made last season. Stepping up and feeling that guy draped on his back, he threw a rope. You see all the parts coming together, the fun will be when they all come together, and hes past the learning stage, and just at the playing stage. IM REALLY looking forward to next season with RT17 in this offense. Next season is going to be pretty special in my opinion.
I agree. Next season is going to be special. He will probably be given furthr upgrades to the line and maybe another wr or running back and it will be lightning in a bottle possibly. Our miami version of aaron rodgers
brent grimes playing at a all pro level what a game, the interception was a combination of absolutely flawless technique and explosiveness. this type of body is wired different, its why I wanted to resign at all costs, serious quick twitch athlete, has not lost anything athletically, or speed..bodes well for us and the contract he signed, well worth the money.
Ha, I called it. I just watched Kevin Coyle's presser from today. He pretty much said exactly what I typed he'd say regarding the 3.7 YPC average. He took blame for the long run by Denard Robinson as he didn't have the defensive call in on time and Jacksonville hurried up to the ball. Said he didn't think Miami was particularly stout against the run yesterday, but there were stretches of pretty good play. I can buy that; hopefully it improves this week.
I wouldn't go that far. Yesterday and the Chicago games have been really good; but before that, not so much. Hopefully continues to keep trending in the right direction.
he doesn't know that, the receiver ran a good route albeit the wrong one, and grimes played it beautifully..he must have rubber bands for achilles tendons
mid season, another half to go, we'll see where he's at..hes at least gonna go to hawaii..my main point was earlier folks were saying some things about grimes that were untrue..he's just as good, worth every penney. all players have ebb and flows.
