what has become f our super-weapon, #1 draft, 3rd overall, Dion Jordan? why has he no apparent position to even compete for on the defense? how is it he remains a starter only on special teams. can he play linebacker or make a tight end out of him... something? or has all this been for not....just a pathetic waste?

They want him to be a DE.

He played over 30 snaps two weeks ago and 22 snaps against San Diego

Spending most of the last game playing defensive tackle or as a 3-4 end.

I was all for seeing if with added weight he could fill a role we needed in base packages while keeping his versatility, but I don't think what's going on is at all valuable.

I believe Dion is a victim of having a very talented defensive group. The upside of which is he learning from the best. I have no doubt he will contribute in the future but for now why mess with what we have by forcing the issue. I do however believe he will play a major role in the Patriots game possibly covering Gronk again.

he's completely missused at this weight, and in a three point stance..its a shame..The freestyler has been imprisoned. How you take a player that has the size/athletic ratio of a dion Jordan and think, lets have him add weight and stick him at d-end is a professional fu"; up.

and it all started with the misread on his stength and body, they thought he needed to add strength to his frame, he didn't, he just needed to have a healthy shoulder..This is the type of frame you don't #### with, you let it gain 2 to 3 lbs of muscle a year naturally and you let the body run and chase, this is a player that can explode laterally, can actually move like a corner in terms of biomechanics, can go sideline to sideline as fast as anyone..

I really don't know wtf they are thinking..its unusual because they have done a good job developing players, i just think this came down to a mistake on reading his body and whats best for it, so I also blame the strength team for listening to the coaches when they should of stood up and told them this frame will not function the same with unneccessary weight.

worse thing, noone has the guts to ask the correct tough questions..

    ya hear me omar.

Maybe after they drafted him and got to know him a little they realized that he had a drug problem and they have been dealing with that all along and have been trying to get him to realize that he needed help. Maybe now that he is clean he can shed the excess weight and become the game's best tight end.

I'm pretty sure that he is almost an exact copy of Jason Taylor so idk how it is so hard to think he wouldn't be a dominate DE. The big difference is his game hasn't translated to the NFL. He dominated players in college because he was a superior athlete. He is not superior to the players in the NFL. Therefore he hasn't been too successful. I would think that he could be a good OLB but is that the best place for him? Cam Wake isn't going to be around forever. Trying to groom DJ into the next JT seems to be a pretty good replacement plan for Wake if you ask me. Having a top DE in the league is far more valuable than having a top OLB. I think he simply needs more reps. OV didn't look very good until last year. It takes time and commitment. Vernon put in the time, hard work and it has paid off. DJ has had a rough start. Injuries, distractions and suspensions have held him back. Not to mention that he clearly doesn't have the work ethic OV does either.

Just as I said about OV, give him time. Next year the guy will be much better. All assuming he steps it up in practices and with his work ethic on and off the field. If he can't learn how to be good from players like Wake and Vernon then he's most likely never going to.

We all hope so...The Dolphins showed their faith in him by trading up to the 3rd pick in the first round last year and then again this year in dealing with his issues..now.it is TIME for him to put his nose to the grind and start giving us a ROI.

I think it's fine to use him at DE as JT was used.

The problem is, as others noted, the weight. He looks lethargic and not very quick. It's one thing get stronger, it's another to lose your explosiveness.

I think he was a better player last year. He needs to trim down a bit and work on quickness and explosiveness. His height is great and he had several plays last year where he was able to leverage an OT into the QB. One would have hoped with a few more moves and experience he'd be able to do more.

I like the fact that he is at least getting on the field. But, he does need more quickness and explosiveness - and right now that just does not appear to be there.

He's just rounding back into game shape. I really think he's going to do something great vs. the Lions. If we look back at the end of the year and the kid isn't helping us win games then it's decision time but I'm pretty darn sure that he'll be a good one for us. Has to clean up his off the field b.s. What he does on the field will ultimately make us happy imo.

I appreciate that you think he will contribute in the future, but you don't draft a guy with the third pick in the draft and then sit around and wait for him to possibly be a starter sometime down the road.

I agree that the players in front of him deserve to be starting, but that is because they are much better NFL players than Jordan is. In fact I like Fede and Shelby on the DL more than I do Jordan.

If as you state Jordan will contribute in the future, I don't believe that contribution will be with the Dolphins. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if they trade him after this season. I don't ever see him being more than a mediocre player at best and it won't surprise me if in the future, we look back and see him as the biggest draft bust in Dolphin history.

Not sure we would get anything of value for Jordan, but then again next season he's at 5.6 million against the cap and we have established players to sign... dead money is about 8 million though so we will probably give him another year before we give up on him.

At this point, the best they could hope for is a late round pick for him. I don't see anything higher than a 5th and more likely it would be a 6th round pick.

It is just sad that the Dolphins will have to pay him over 5 million dollars next year to basically continue to be a backup player on the roster. Your probably right that they will have to keep him if they can't trade him, but I will be extremely surprised if he is still on the team in 2016.

We will see. Many people have been wrong before about players. It wasn't too long ago when you said the same thing about Jared Odrick or Charles Clay.

He has the body for it, however will he have the mind and the discipline?

Dion Jordan is being misused in a role similar to what best fits Shelby and Fede, and he's pretty well better than them at it.

I think there could be a less then savory answer..Dion is not in game shape and has two a day legs atm, do think he looked really natural dropping into coverage.

Also think he is a bit raw as an NFL DE atm, and Philbin being Philbin is NOT going to play him if he cannot both defend the run and passrush.

I never said Clay or Odrick would be a bust in the NFL. I will admit that Clay has developed into a decent player, but I still don't see him showing up on a consistent basis. Perhaps that is the fault of the OC, and Clay will start being more involved in the offense over the second half of the season.

That being stated, I would still like to see the Dolphins acquire a top flight TE who can be an effective blocker, as well as a threat in the middle of the field. Clay is an effective H-back type player, but he isn't the solid big time TE I would love to see on this team. With the addition of a top tier TE on the roster, I think that would only increase the productivity of Clay.

As far as Odrick is concerned. He is okay, but he isn't someone I would spend a lot of money on after this season by signing him to a big contract. I think he can easily be replaced by another cheaper free agent or a draft pick in 2015. I like Mitchell far more than Odrick and I think Johnson would be a good replacement for Odrick if he decides to leave in free agency after this season. Of course Starks is also still with the Dolphins and that makes the signing of Odrick a low priority in free agency, IMO.

The fact he is not in better shape is a huge negative in my opinion.

Jones didn't have a good season in 2013 and then he was suspended for the first four games this year. Yet he came back in great shape after his four game suspension and is probably playing his best football as a Dolphin. He started as soon as he came back from suspension and he certainly didn't need time to get into playing shape.

I hope I am wrong about Jordan, just as I have been wrong about some of the other players on this roster. I just don't see the football talent in Jordan that some others on here seem to see. He may have great athletic ability, but that doesn't mean he is going to be a good NFL player.

There have been thousands of players who have entered the NFL with great athletic ability, only to fail once they got to the highest level of the game.

I have stated that I think he might be a more productive player if he were to be switched to LB, but as a DE, I just don't see him ever being a starter for the Dolphins.

Wake will probably be a member of the Dolphins for at least two to three more seasons and if he stays healthy, Jordan certainly isn't going to replace him in the starting lineup.

Vernon is clearly better than Jordan and Vernon only seems to be getting better. So even if Jordan is able to be a backup DE for the Dolphins for the next couple of years. Far more was
expected from him when he was taken as the first defensive player in the 2013 draft.

I have no problem with you disagreeing with my opinion of Odrick. Obviously you feel he is a better player than I do.

That is why there are forums like this one. So we can all express our opinions, even if we might not agree all the time.

I stand by opinion that Odrick isn't worth a big contract in free agency and obviously you think he should receive a big contract.

I would rather see the cap money used on the OL, LB, TE, DB positions in free agency. I feel the Dolphins have plenty of talent on the DL to replace Odrick, if he is looking for big money in his next contract.

If he is willing to sign for a cap friendly number to remain with the Dolphins, I would have no issue with him remaining with the Dolphins for the right price.

I stand by mine. Mostly because of the type of defense that Coyle likes to run. He loves to play either a 4-3 or a 3-4 and right no Miami has zero players who are both as young and as talented as Odrick. It all starts with the line.

OL, Miami shouldn't spend more money on.

LB, honestly I feel Miami is fine with Misi, Tripp, McCain, and Jenkins.

TE, Clay, Sims and Hopskins are fine to me as well. Maybe Lynch can do something, however I do not believe he is going to make the team next year.

DB, I do agree some money will have to go there, however I do think Miami can replace Finnegan with another player.

Odrick is too important to the team. The last thing you want to lose is a player who is both good enough to be a good DT against the run in a 4-3 and 3-4, and have good pass rushing capabilities. He is one of the top 5 DLs according to a few statistic sites.

I noticed he was dropping back a lot Sunday, usually the last one to do so and I think that's by design, with that height and wingspan he can cover a lot of that middle, wouldn't be surprise if he gets his big paws on a pass soon.

Which part? I know there's a similarity in roles, and I think as it stands Jordan most certainly does things better. His ability to sort through trash and pursue is better than either by a pretty big margin, and I think it's a pretty rare and desirable trait.

    Made two HUGE plays yesterday!

The blocked kick return for almost a TD (woulda been a TD if Jimmy Wilson had thrown a block!).
The knocked down ball to Megatron in the end zone.

Hopefully, he can build on this performance.

You are okay with Clay? You do know he cost us the game yesterday...no? He has to make that catch. He has to. This is the NFL. You have to catch TDs that hit you in the hands. I don't care what you do between the 20s.

Even Clay called it a drop..no denying that has to be a catch. He also is a very good player who is one of my favorites and one of the better players on this team. A tough drop in a big spot by a good player...nothing more and nothing less.

A troll? For saying that a guy that we picked with the third overall pick who didn't start last year and was suspended for 6 games this year isn't good? Hmmmm...to me its says I am a fan who wants to win. What is the accepted way to treat DJ? Is there a protocol I need to keep to make sure I am not labeled a troll? Should I say, "that DJ, man, he is really good"? Does that help?

But anyway, I guess you can call me what you want. I hope DJ turns out to be Jason Taylor. But right now, hes more the other JT, Jason Trusnick than he is Jason Taylor. I hope I am wrong. Really.

Exactly. That was clearly a drop. Clay has to make that catch. He knows it. Until he proves he can make the catches he has to make on a regular basis, I am all for giving reps to Gator and others. Potential gets you cut in this league. We are not good enough at the other positions to be giving "huge money" to a guy who drops TD passes. Its not like hes a blocker or anything else. He is a rec' TE.

Dion played well last year actually. He just had shoulder problems that prevented him from seeing a lot of time. However a lot of the important things he does well really don't stand out on the stat sheet.

This year the suspension sucked. No doubt. We still have to give him time though. He's young and talented. Plus he flashes sometimes.

What does this mean? Is there an Open Enrollment for Trolls, like Medicare? If there is and I joined in that time, wouldn't that just be my luck! ;-) Seriously, I don't know PhinsMiami or anyone else on the board. I am a huge Fins fan, but I am not blinded by optimism. I don't post after the game what I "wanted" to happen. I post about what happens. I admit I am a rank amateur...most of you probably know more about the team and football than I do. This is a hobby. Sorry if being blunt offends. Not my intention.

I saw it as a drop because of the way he attempted to catch it. If he would have let the ball get to his body instead of catching it with his hands he would have been able to absorb the hit and retain possession.
