Considering all the POS QBs that are getting reps in the NFL, how does Matt Moore stay so upbeat knowing that's he's second fiddle to RT?

Think he's kicking himself that he signed with the Phins considering that Colt McCoy, Kyle Orton, Geno Smith, Drew Stanton, Mark Sanchez (to name a few) all have had shots at starting in this league, this year.

I always so him so happy, I guess being rich is being rich even if you're on the sideline.

The tail-end of the 2011 he was above average IMHO. He actually hit some deep balls too.

Matt Moore is a team player and great asset to Ryan. He is capable of managing a game if needed, but he's not scaring anyone. Yes, he is better player than other guys starting, but he's not a guy you build your team around. He's the perfect backup.

He could have gone elsewhere to compete for a starting job.. But chose to stay in Miami as backup. It's my understanding he loves it here and his role with the Phins.

Is this a thinly-veiled attempt to bash Tannehill?

Very thin. I don't think Moore is better than RT, though I do remember him hitting passes of more than 30 yards more often.

Le Batard made a good analogy a few minutes ago. RT is playing in a Phone booth because they don't let him throw the ball more than 20 yards most of the time.

But it's more an assessment of other QBs in the league. He could be the starter for the Eagles or the Cardinals right now and he'd be better than what they have.

Because being a backup QB in the NFL is just about the greatest job in the world. I would also have a grin from ear to ear if I were being paid millions to watch NFL games from the bench.

because maybe he has self realization that he has better job security as a backup than fighting to be a starter. The guy has lost a starting job with 2 different teams. I know people think he's the greatest backup in the league, but he's not. I'd classify him as an above average backup at best, let alone someone who could be a starter for other teams. Colt McCoy gets to start a few games to end the season, but he'll be replaced after teh season

He's getting paid and doesn't have to maintain a huge standard as the back up. Same reason i don't want my bosses job.

I'm sure he wants to start, maybe he's just the type of guy that counts his blessings. How many guys have we seen get a starting shot, fail miserably, and can't get a job in the CFL in two years.....

He has started though. He made the 2011 season look less like the 2007 season and more a 2005 season.

I love Matt Moore, I would be happy with him starting at QB for the Dolphins. The last team he did he did well and was MVP, his receivers were crap too. He is the first guy off the bench to congrats guys coming off the field. Often I see Tannehill following behind him to praise the teammates and I think "Ryan should be the one leading."

Anyway, as long as the Dolphins are winning and the QB play is not the reason for them losing I'm ok with whoever..... as long as it is not fiedler....

What about Josh Mcclown? Tampa would be at least 3 games better with Moore. But it's nice to have a solid starting back up just in case so don't complain about MM.

Besides being paid very well he will live a long life without stress and lifetime threats like concussions. If he is smart he will invest his money wisely so he can live off it comfortably for the rest of his life.I recommend real estate like his boss Ross.

I am positive he has no pretensions of getting in to the HOF someday.Backup QB is the best job in the world.Everyone loves you and you only have to know the playbook....just in case.A insurance policy if you like.

Matt Moore is the 26th-highest paid QB in the NFL this year. On Sunday, he will be making more than 13 starting QBs, including Ryan Tannehill.

For such a dangerous position in such a dangerous sport, I think he's figured it out rather well.

Yeah I'd say Mr. Moore gets a pretty good salary to hold a clip board.

Also, Moore would be a threat in NY even in Buffalo I think he's better overall than Fitzpatrick, so we can't let him go to a rival.

I beg to differ, but Giancarlo Stanton has the best job in America. He earns $68,000 every day of the year for the next 13 years and his contract is guaranteed whether he plays or not.

Moore could be replaced at any time and in the NFL there are no guaranteed contracts.

I'll take Stanton's job over Moore's job any day of the week.

The Dolphins signed him to his present contract because they wanted an experienced veteran QB behind an inexperienced young QB. To ensure he remained with the team, they were willing to overpay him at the time.

Now that Tannehill has more experience and appears to be the long term answer at the position, I don't think the front office will be willing to pay Moore anything close to what they have paid him the past couple of seasons to remain the backup in future years. The Dolphins just won't have the cap space in the future to continue to overpay a backup QB.

Unless Moore is willing to accept a much lower contract to remain the Dolphins backup, it is likely he will be the backup on another NFL team next year, IMO.

That contract is fool's gold. He barely gets paid any money before the opt out clause can be exercised. He'll make $107 million in the first six years where he won't approach highest paid in the league. That's $17.83 million per year which is still great. If the team is doing well and he stays, he will have played six prime years at a discount. If he opts in, then by 2021 he'll be making $31.14 million per year which won't be the richest contract by that point. Considering contract inflation, he'll be underpaid over the proceeding 7 years. Loria pulled another fast one.

Who is then? It looks like splitting hairs to me, to say this guy or that guy is the definite best #2 QB in the league. He is right there in the group of the top 4-5 #2s, and which one any of us may take 1st would be a matter of personal preference. I am very glad we have him and I believe we could still be competitive if we ever have to use him for a stretch of games. Considering he apparently likes being in Sou Fla, he may re-sign for less than his current contract.

I'm not sure how any contract can be considered, "fool's gold", when Stanton is guaranteed the full amount of the contract if he chooses not to opt out of the contract after six years.

He obviously would only opt out if he knows he can sign for more money with another team at that time. So the worst he can look forward to over the next 13 years is to have to live on the money he recently signed for with the Marlins, which averages out to $68,000 a day over the life of that contract.

The reality is that if his career doesn't take off from here and he ends up being no more than an average MLB player, he still gets all the money. If he turns out to be one of the best players in the league over the next decade, all it will mean is that he will sign an even bigger contract in seven years.

That sounds like a win-win situation to me.

The NFL is filled with the , "fool's gold" contracts you refer to. Players are signed to huge back loaded contracts in their productive years and they end up getting cut or taking huge pay cuts once the big money starts to kick in. Other than the guaranteed money they receive in their contracts, the majority of the money they sign for never ends up in their bank account.

I am sure NFL players would love to have the same type of guaranteed contracts the players in baseball and basketball receive, but I just don't see the NFL owners ever agreeing to these type contracts.

Ok this has to stop. How much time did Moore have to throw the ball on near EVERY drop back that year? did he have pressure in his face on virtually every snap while he made deep throws? give me a break. And if Le Batard said ANYTHING along the lines of they don't "LET" Tannehill throw the ball that far, then he is a complete idiot, and that is 110% grade-A BS... And I'm a fan of his.

All the people calling us a 'dink and dunk' offense need to realize that aside from some of the obvious checkdowns, pitchs, screens etc, it's not always planned to be that way. And even when it is, it's MOST CERTAINLY NOT because of RTH's throwing ability, (contrary to the belief of some here). When your offensive line is in shambles to the point where you are afraid your qb will shatter a vertebrae on half of his drop backs, because he has less than 2 seconds to get the ball out, he's not going to go through entire field progressions to every receiver. HE CANT. It has to be played that way. Hell tannehill is on the floor after most of his throws ANYWAY, completed or not.

You know what happens when Tannehill has time to throw? ACTUAL time? The San Diego game. Tell me how that went again? You know what happens when he doesn't have time to throw? You do. Because it's pretty much every other game, (like the ones where we get 50 yards or less of total offense in a quarter or a half.)

I'd absolutely love to see anyone take a snap behind a line this bad and be told you need to routinely do 4 seconds worth of work and hit a receiver in stride 30-50 yards down field in 2 seconds flat, while the line is completely whiffing on blocks in turnstyle fashion.

    PLEASE.

After seeing wallaces hands last night (Again) I can't believe the deep ball is even still a discussion. Really can't.

    He's relishing it... lol.

Makes bank, and gets to go home and **** his hot *** wife without taking a lick of the physical abuse NFL players go through. Dude has it made... and he knows it.

Moore is a good backup, but no way do we keep him around for anything close to what he's making next season. I think its more likely we look to draft a long term backup to RT in the 4th or 5th round.

All this talk about Moore in the backup role and the benefits has me lol-ing as I think about that guy in Blue Mountain State. His goal was always to be good enough to be the backup, but not be the starter. Get all the perks, but not the pain.

Do you remember the last real time the dolphins could have made a run at the AFC championship? The Defense was firing on all cylinders and ricky was running his lights out. Remember what happened? Jay Fielder brakes his thumb in his throwing hand, Ray Lucas comes in and sucks it up, we lose a bunch of games and missed the playoffs. Having a quality back up quarterback is golden when you have the crappy offensive line that we have. Tannehill is eventually have to sit a game because the line got him injured, then who do you want backing him up? Matt Moore, or scrubs like Delvin?
