This is a guy I would look closely at for HC.

No more rookie head coaches learning on the job. I'm sick and done with it.

I don't care if its a rookie I care if he knows wtf he's doing. As for learning....Philbin hasn't learned a damn thing

I'd rather take a chance on a rookie who has real potential than recycle someone who you know won't get you there (see Rex Ryan).

Not sure why you think Rex can't get someone there. His GM built him possibly the worst roster in football.

I'd sure take Rex over Philbin. I'd just make sure Rex knew that while he'd be part of gameplanning for the offense it would be in the hands of an OC chosen by both he and Hickey.

Honestly at this point I'd give Lazor a shot. I don't see us landing someone like Malzahn.

Isn't this the same John Pagano which saw his defense completely destroyed when they played the Dolphins earlier this season?

If it was his brother you wanted as the next HC, I would agree, but John Pagano, no thanks.

I would take Ryan as the next HC, but I don't have any interest in seeing Lazor get the job. I just don't think the offense has been consistent enough with him as the OC to think he would be an effective head coach.

In fact, the last two weeks, the offense seems to have regressed. The fact Lazor did nothing to help Thomas in pass protection yesterday is a red flag when it comes to his ability to game plan.

Hopefully there will be far better candidates for the head coaching job than Lazor.

Honestly I'd put those things on Philbin because I've seen Lazor do them at other stops in his career.

I'm pretty sure Lazor is handcuffed by the image Philbin has of what he wants this team to be.

We've failed with the re-treads (Wanny)
Failed with the re-tread Superbowl coach (J.J)
    Failed with college coaches (Saban)
Failed with O.C. to H.C. (Cameron)
Failed with offensive assistants to H.C. (Philbin/Sparano)

Just where would you like us to go?

Really the only angle left is hot young up and comer from the defensive side or promote within.

So really it's going to be hard to be 'fresh' with a next coach and not have the ghost of the previous type hanging in the air.

The only other time Lazor has been an OC was at the University of Virginia. In his three years as the OC there, his offenses regressed each year after having some success in his first year as the OC.

He obviously didn't have much to do with the success of the Eagles offense last year, because they have been just as successful without him this year.

I just don't see him as a good head coaching candidate at this time. Maybe in a few years when he has shown he is a quality a coordinator in the NFL, but right now, no thank you.

When you hire a new head coach they almost never retain coaches left by the previous coach.

You can't really know if Lazor is handcuffed. They completely got away from some of the things they had success with in the first half, maybe even thinking they'd catch them off-guard.

Make no mistake, they did give Thomas some help, but in the end, you cannot run those limited amount of plays where you leave someone in to block for an entire series, much less an entire half.

Some of those are on Tannehill as well. On the 3rd and 3 nearing (or maybe even in the Red Zone) Tannehill completely looked off the back in the flat who was WIDE OPEN for the first down and took a sack. It looked as though Tannehill wanted the whole cake instead of taking a slice here and there.

Some of the issue was when Tannehill got front-side pressure, he would try to climb the pocket only to run into a wall. So the interior also did not help on some of those when the obvious pressure from the front was there.

This is a piecemeal O-line right now. There were not as many of these issues when Miami had Albert in there. The Dallas Thomas experiment is an obvious wash, but who else do you put in there? People will cry "developement" and maybe they're onto something, but they were well on their way to developing a stud rookie RT, who is now not doing too badly at LT. So the team did address this in the off-season.

It basically boils down to injuries. These guys are backups for a reason. Look at some other teams who have some injuries along the O-line and you can see similar results. They stick with them because that's all they have. Even the Pats were in the same position with their RT position a while back, and Wake ate his lunch much like Dumervil did with Thomas.

Other than QB, injuries hurt the team more at O-line than probably any other position. You can only hold in an extra player for so many plays. At some point, you have to try to run your offense and hope you catch a break. Injuries have hurt this team. It is what it is.

I for one would not blame the problems on offense the last couple weeks on Lazor. The fact is ever since we lost Albert the offensive line has gotten worse every week. I am more concerned with who is making the call to keep Thomas at right tackle when he keeps getting his butt handed to him. Fox can't possibly be any worse.

The only reason I can see keeping Philbin is for continuity. If you keep changing head coaches every 3 years you are in constant flux personnel wise and program wise. Is that enough to warrant keeping him, I don't think so. I want a coach that is going to come in here and be a tough SOB like Shula was when he first got here. I want a coach that is going to instill an attitude in these guys where they feel like they can go anywhere and punch teams in the mouth. I am tired of the Dolphins being a finesse team.

Bring me a coach that will do that.

It's not an excuse inasmuch it is an explanation. A reasonable observation as to why Miami struggled against their pass rush. I would have to dismiss blame for the O-line woes to have it categorized as an 'excuse'.

Dallas Thomas is a backup (surprised he is even employed) for a reason. When he is placed in the starting lineup, this is what you get.

As I said, it is what it is.

While we're at it lets just cut all 53 of our players, can't give them a pass either. Ditch the practice squad too. If they can't make it onto this crappy roster them they clearly suck.

I don't know...Tomlin in Pittsburgh was a rookie head coach, did pretty well. His brother seems to be doing well. Sean Payton did well. Mike Smith did well. Mike McCoy is doing ok. Cowher did fine.

Lovie Smith, not a rookie...yikes. Art Shell has experience. Marty Shottenheimer has been around. Wannstedt had experience. Saban had experience. Cam Cameron had been a HC.

Its finding the right guy..no the right profile.

Doesn't stop a move to HC. Lazor wouldn't be kept though. Guys want to bring in their own folks and have their own visions. Usually only a few position coaches survive and that's generally because they are regarded as great in the first place and the new coach has no one close.

I'd love Bowles with Kacy Rodgers promoted to DC. Position coaches worth possibly keeping: TE's: Dan Campbell, LB's: Mark Duffner

Not sure who'd be a good match for Bowles at OC or even what type of system he'd run. Have to really look at his career to see who he was tight with coaching wise.

I would have absolutely no problem with Bowles replacing Philbin. In hindsight, he should have been the permanent replacement after he replaced Sparano during the 2011 season. Unfortuntely because he was a coach on Sparano's staff, this probably hurt his chances of getting the job at the time.

I think Bowles will be high on the list of candidates for several teams after this season. I just hope he doesn't hold it against Ross for not hiring him for the head coaching job in 2011.

Other than Harbaugh, Bowles just might be the best head coaching candidate available for the many openings which will soon take place for head coaching jobs in the NFL.

Hey not all 53 should go, I like about 6-7 players on this roster. If Tannehill left I wouldn't mind.

Rex Ryan brought a team with Sanchez and not much else on offense to the AFC championship twice. 4-2 playoff record with that team? He can coach.

I cringe when I hear people attempting to scapegoat one coach or one player.

Our OC is learning to call plays.

Our QB is still developing a feel for how to operate in the pocket.

Our O-line is set back due to injuries.

Wallace isn't having the breakout year we all wanted him to have.

I'd love to think I'm going to hear some great story about how we can turn it all on this Sunday but facts are facts. We have looked sub-par over the last 2 weeks for all of the reasons above. And those are big reasons that you can't just erase.

It's fair to ask for 1 of those things to improve in a weeks time, but you can only hide or compensate for so much.

Oh, I know. I meant that his contract makes him one of the highest paid coordinators in the league; and, while he will be high on the list of potential candidates for teams around the league, he has the luxury of choosing what's right for him. If he chooses to stay in AZ, he will continue to build a solid D on a potential Super Bowl squad.

He holds the cards (no pun intended), and he pretty much can do things on his own terms.
