On the one hand I feel confident the Phins will take this. It feels like they're taking their pride seriously. On the other hand, the Phins struggles against the Jets seem more justified considering the Patriots also struggled against them. Ryan isn't going to let up and our LB's and lines aren't what they should be. Will Ryan have learned enough in the last game to out play/run the Dolphins or will Philbin and co. have come up with a way to stop the Jets run and beat them more convincingly this time? Thoughts?
The worry is Odrick and Starks getting blown out of the hole for CJ and Ivory ripping off 40+ yard runs as Wilson and Misi miss tackles. We gave up 277 rushing yards in week 13 and the stej owned the LOS on both sides of the ball. Mangold was a beast in the first game and CJ, Ivory, etc... averaged 5+ yards per carry as Mangold totally pawned Starks and Mitchell. At least we now have Finnegan and Taylor both back, so we should be able to shore up both run and pass defense. For us, Miller had most of his success off the right side, where he gained 43 of his 56 yards, including his TD, on 6 carries to that side. The stej did a mostly good job of covering Landry as well. He had a very good play off a busted coverage for a 25 yard gain, but only gained 2 yards of YPC after receptions in that game, which was his lowest mark this season. Hartline was a non-factor with 1 catch and has mostly disappeared this qtr of the season. Good thing Sims showed up that game and that we have both Clay and Sims back. Hoping for much better game from us this time around. ;-)
Whether or not that happens, I do feel that the offense (especially with the benefit of being at home) needs to come out and win this game. I really don't think it should be close. We're at home, we have by far the better QB, we have the confidence of having beaten them without having our best day, we're playing with a winning record on the line, they have nothing to play for while being on the road, etc.
Be nice but not realistic. Jets gave Brady and the pats fits. Geno passed for more yards than Brady I think, but like with us, Geno threw a pick that led to the pats win... If Tannehill gets 214 yards and 2 passing TDs, he'd have 4000 yards and 28 TDs. A very nice season by most any standard.
I wouldn't even put Tanny out there. I'd play a ton of new guys. Of course, Philbin has an image to maintain now, so he'll probably skrimp a hard fought win. Probably injure a couple guys and inch that much closer to ushering in the zombie apocalypse... must be how the jets felt when they had Rich Kotite.
Juck the Fets. Records mean nothing in this match up. I hope we go out and smash, no matter how unlikely it actually is. I really hope, at the very least, tanny has a good game and gets the 200 some yards he needs to get his 3k for the season. that would be bad azz.
If it wasn't against the Jets I really wouldn't care, but since it is I'd like to win. Other than that it's just the last game of another disappointing season.
Sure it a meaningless game. How would you look in the mirror and think you would be okay losing to the jets?
We need to open in our version of the Bear front, load up the box, sell out to stop the run, and dare Geno Smith to beat us throwing the ball. Especially if the Jets come out in 12, 21, or 22 personnel.
te jets have allowed 4 passing TD's this season once...to freaking kyle orton, that was a game where the bills D forced 6 turnovers though and created many extra posessions, besides that....3 games with 3 TD's passes to Rivers, Rodgers and P.Manning
The only meaningless game in the NFL is the Pro Bowl. Ever other game has meaning. You'd better believe the Jets are will come out to play, divisional pride is about the only thing they've got; if Ryan and the Jets are anything they're pains in the rear end, intentionally.
The one Silver Lining out of the Philbin coming back announcement is we can 100% root for us to kick the Jets asses this Sunday.
Exactly. End this season on a high note. I want to send them into the off-season to search for a new GM, HC, QB, and roster after a thorough 4 qtr *** kicking here at home. - OL needs to step up this game. They gave up 2 sacks, 5 hits, and 9 TFLs last time we faced the stej. Hoping the OL steps up this game and finishes with a MUCH better showing. - Tannehill needs 214 yards for 4000 yards. Would love to see him get another 2 passing TDs as well. 33 yards rushing gives him 350 on the year as well. - Miller needs 79 yards for 1000. Rooting for him to get them. He had 56 on the ground against jets last game. - Wallace need 130 for a 1000 yards. Not likely, but you never know. He set a personal best last season for receptions and now has tied his personal best for TDs with 10 for the first time since 2010. - Wake has his 3rd best sack season ever. He got Geno once last game. Would like to see him get 2 this game. - OV has had 1 sack in the last 4 games. Hoping he gets another as well. JETS - Just End The Season.
Agreed... In our entire team history, we've never had a 1,000 yard rusher, 1,000 yard receiver, and a 4,000 yard passer at the same time. Won't happen this season either unless Wallace has a monster game. Miller averages around 56 yards per game, so no guarantee he gets 80 for a 1000 yard season either. Last week was an anomaly as they usually keep his carries limited to protect him as he hasn't been very durable in his career. Still, wished they had let him pick up another 10 yards last game so he'd have his 2nd 100 yard game this season (KC). Right now Tannehill's 3,786 yards is the most by a Fins QB since Danny had 4,453 in 1994 and Tannehill's 26 TDs are the most since Danny had 30 that same year. Hope he gets 214 yards and 2 or more TDs.
Interesting... Jamar Taylor placed on IR and Sam Brenner, is back on the roster. What do we have to do to get healthy DBs? http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/transactions/MIA/miami-dolphins

Last updated: Thu, December 25, 2014, 01:11 EST

Date Player Pos. Transaction

12/23 Jamar Taylor CB Placed on IR, shoulder

12/23 Mike Brewster G practice squad deletion

12/23 Jake Knott LB practice squad addition

12/23 Deandre Coleman DT Activated from the Practice Squad

12/23 Sam Brenner C Activated from the Practice Squad

12/23 Nate Garner G reserve/non-football-injury, illness

12/20 Jake Knott LB cut

12/20 Matt Hazel WR Activated from the Practice Squad

If Mangold is beat up or out, that is going to be a huge plus for us. He totally dominated last game. Big Mo missing is good as well, considering our OL, but then he was out last game and they still controlled the LOS. Want to see us man up and beat them on both sides of the ball for all 4 qtrs.
I am glad to see we signed Knott back to the PS after he was last cut. This may mean we're more likely to sign him to a future contract after the season.
I wonder if Philbin knows these stats and even cares enough to go after them. I hope they all reach these numbers.
I'm sure they all do. Coyles like to cite his defense as being one of the better statistical defenses and Lazor has mentioned things here and there throughout the season as well. If they cared the numbers, they would have fed Miller another run or two to have gotten him the 8 yards he needed for 100 last game against Milly and made it easier for him to finish at 1000 on the season against the jets.
I hope we focus on feeding Miller a lot in the first half. It would be great to have him get his 1,000 early in the game. Then we can focus on getting Tanny and Wallace theirs.
I'd like to see them keep going deep. They'll have success against this secondary if they do. Just need to give RT a few seconds to see it.
Just end the game safely.. We dont need major injuries to end this stupid season on a meaningless game
