Please someone explain, because I obviously am oblivious. Why exactly in absolutely meaningless game did we leave Tannehill in the game to almost be killed repeatedly by the Jets pass rush?????
Stephen Ross is the root of the problem. It's nlt even about retaining Philbin, which is a poor move, but the timing was so idiotic.
Ross has set the expectation over the last 6 years with Ireland and Philbin that's it's OK to be mediocre. Be mad at Philbin -- He's a horrible coach -- but know that while Ross is making decisions we'll be back in this spot every year
This is from another thread in the forum: That's the point on this last day of another season. It's the hope, too. If anything echoes today beyond the disappointment of recent years, it's the incremental lowering of standards in a once-proud franchise. Everyone's in on it. The owner. The coach. The players. Even some fans and media, for whom the idea of beating the Jets and having a winning season means a progressive step forward was taken. No matter they were effectively eliminated from the playoffs with two games left. No matter their defense, rather than improving, was shredded as the games turned most important. Nine wins. A winning season. It's in their grasp Sunday. Whee!
Philbin is one smart cookie. Ross however couldn't spell cat if you gave him the c and the t when it comes to football.
He wanted to see what we had in Ryan for next year. Because you know, its not like Tanny had a good year or anything.
Expectations matter, Cautious Coach Joe is probably a good X and O guy as a head coach whose main requirement is to wrangle with difficult personalities That ****er sucks at his job, put it this way, Marshall, Bush, Wallace, Hartline..possibly Clay..all gone B/c the bald pated Coach Joe could not deal with them..as a leader of men that guy is explosive diarrhea..he could not motivate or inspire a girl scout troop to sell cookies
