Well, I will try to help you understand the game. Ahem, here goes.

Since the defense constantly ****s the bed the whole game we are behind in the 4th quarter. The defense knows we have to pass, and since our O line can't block a determined 3 year old, the QB gets hit a lot, many times behind the line of scrimmage. This is called a SACK.

    Does that help?

Well, I will work on my own issues in this forum, for that I apologize but for most fans, you either understand intangibles or you dont. I.e., Some people say how come OL didn't hold that block for one sec longer, others wonder why the QB didn't take off and run in the lane that was given.

I have had time to calm down after a very very frustrating game. I think on the top 100 problems on this team..Tannehill is problem 101. I think its all a progression of a QB. I think he needs to learn that he is athletic enough to run on plays that break down. It seems like the only time he runs are all on designed plays. I really cant remember when he ran for yardage when pressure came at him. Its always on designed rollouts or an option run. He needs to add running to his game when the pocket breaks down. It will make him that much better a QB. yet with that being said...I came away so impressed with his play this year. I honestly believe we can win with this kid. He will never be what some hope or desire...top 5 star QB...but give him a better o-line and weapons...and I know he can win

    Wrong.

Deej didn't say he's not sold on Tannehill. He said he's the exact OPPOSITE of sold on Tannehill. He's SOLD that Tannehill is not the answer.

As in, no doubt. He ain't buying what RT is selling.

I hear Jake Locker is available.

What is a 4th quarter winning percentage?

Does every (Or most) QBs completion %, points, etc. drop in the 4th quarter?

I know we are typically very one dimensional when we are trailing in the 4th quarter of games (the past two years at least), coupling that with a poor pass blocking OL, surely leads to a drop in production. It makes everything a lot easier for a defense when you know what is coming.

I think the problem with this thread is not that it's invalid or that it's in any way not a reflection of what we all see on game-day, but that it's irrelevant in the face of the mountain of other issues the Dolphins currently face which are 1000 times more important.

    Geno Smith was perfect today.

well you also need to look at how the jets middle was getting push while James and Fox were getting beat to the corner and state where RT was supposed to run? yes a couple times he could have and should have, but can you definitively say that was RT not having feel or not wanting to give up on the play? could it be he is still thinking and not completely playing instinctively? he is in a new offense, he came out as a project, so what were the realistic expectations? he has progressed each year in every category what evidence exists to say it wont continue?

Couldn't disagree more with the OP. Our defense got ****housed by the Jets, our top wide receiver decided to act like a petulant child and took himself out of the game for the majority of it, our pass blocking was as bad as it's been in the past 2 years, and you decide this is the game that you're going to bail on the quarterback after? OK.

You have to understand Deej, you're dealing with a group of fan boys who are incapable of being objective when it comes to Ryan. I like the way he has developed, I like what he has the potential to be in 2015. Said it many times, but unless I blame everyone but RT, I have issues.

What you presented was your observation of Ryan based on 3 seasons of play...and you were attacked by numerous poster's who have shown no ability to be objective. It frustrates me they can react this way and get away with it. I applaud your head remaing cool in these spots.

    But I'm a believer in RT...

That final "drive" I was hoping they would take Tannehill out, he got creamed 8 plays in a row. Every single play ended with someone taking a clean shot at him.

He is one tough SOB but I don't know how much more he can take, at some point he is going to get hurt. I think he was hit or hurried on over 60% off his drop backs today.

The question still stands like a concrete reinforced wall...Who.....Are you going to replace Tannehill with? This is strictly for the people who do not like Tannehill. It also seems to be a question that none of the anti- Tannnehill supporters can answer.

His statistics alone, on paper are very impressive and they have continued to improve year after year. His overall play has continued to improve year after year...You can't say that it hasn't. If Tannehill had somehow regressed (the way Chad Henne did), then I could see a logical reason for not supporting him anymore....thing is he hasn't.

People have brought up the idea of drafting a Quarterback early on in the draft, just to push him next season......Why on Earth would we do that? Tannehill seems to be part of a select few on this team that do not need to be "pushed" to perform at a high level. Spending a 3/4/5 round pick on a quarterback when we could be using that pick to improve other areas that require more immediate attention sounds completely idiotic to me....In fact it would be a classic Miami Dolphin draft blunder...Another Pat White! It has been proven time and time again that you do not win in this league unless you draft well. Taking a quarterback when we already have a very productive one would be the classic example of a team not drafting well, thus leading us towards more frustrating disappointing seasons. In my opinion we are among those teams that simply do not draft well...I put us right in the class with yearly crappy drafting teams such as Cleveland, Washington, Tampa Bay, Oakland, Tennessee, and Jacksonville (to an extent). It isn't a magical wonder that none of these teams have been very good for quite some time now (including us). The track record speaks for itself...Crappy drafts=crappy teams that are constant basement dwellers and sometimes mediocre.

I got off topic by ranting about how poorly we draft, but I think it relates directly back to why we are a bad/mediocre team year in and year out seemingly. My point is this....the one thing we did get right through drafting ever since I can remember was selecting Ryan Tannehill. We need to improve our drafts, and we need to hit in free agency rather than the yearly proverbial misfires (Keller, Gibril Wilson, Mike Wallace???, Ellerbe, the list goes on and on). If we can achieve success doing those things, we will be a successful team that is a yearly playoff contender. Until those things happen, you can expect more mediocrity and frustration year in and year out. I will say this with confidence...Ryan Tannehill is not the problem....We hit on that draft pick and thank God for that.

It's not just completion percentage and points, it's finishing. Tannehill is rated at the bottom 5 in the NFL at finishing. Most of his wins, was with a lead at the end of the third. But coming from behind, forget about it.

I think Tannehill is a decent quarterback, but franchise quarterback? Nope, not yet. And I hope Ross does not give him a ridiculous contract either. Exercise the fullest extent of his options until Tannehill has learned how to WIN. I can care less about 4000 yards, I don't care about his INT/TD ratio, I care about WINNING. I've seen quarterbacks win with much less talent around them, the talent usually plays on another level with these elite quarterbacks.

I want what the Patriots have, if Brady is healthy, it is a guaranteed ticket to the playoffs with a high chance at the AFC championship game. We are always in the wildcard mix and fall short by Week 15. That's mediocrity bull**** I don't care for. An elite quarterback does not let that happen. And sure throw names like but Brees but Rivers and etc, they all have been mediocre the past couple seasons.

I agree that our OL need to step up in a major way, as well as our pathetic D, it just drives me crazy that RT17 has the skills to be a AR12 but doesn't demonstrate on a consistent basis.. I'm sure it hurts his confidence getting hit all the time but so does every QB (look no further then A Luck too). For RT17, its all mental now, he's either gotta put this team on his shoulders and lead or we need to switch the scheme to a power run to get the best results possible for the miami dolphins to succeed.

So again, does most other QBs stats drop in the 4th quarter. I mean is Tannehill outside the norm in that regard?

And can you please define what exactly "finishing" is? Because without explaining what it is I can't see how he is bottom 5 since he taken almost every snap in his career, and I have never heard of a stat called "finishing"

Also, does any QB have most of their wins occuring despite them trailing in the 4th? Or do most QBs wins occur when they had a lead to end the 3rd?

Wins are a team stat. Tannehill has the same 4th quarter comebacks (7)as Aaron Rodgers, not that they are in the same stratosphere. Luck & Wilson have 9.

Okay. Here. I'll make my answer really simple, and I'll even fix my error for you, because my interpretation error clearly invalidates everything else I had to say.

DJ said he is the opposite of "sold on Tannehill."

He has been talking about what he wants to see from the QB position all year, and he isn't seeing it.

He never mentioned anything about Tannehill being the reason the Dolphins lost the game.

He never mentioned anything about Tannehill needing to win the game for the Dolphins.

Some of the things DJ wants to see out of Tannehill actually depend on the o-line being bad, and Tannehill performing anyway.

There are dozens of replies with "you want to blame Tannehill?" and "but the defense!" and "but the o-line!"

These replies don't match what was posted in the first post. What does the Dolphins' defense have to do with the Jets batting down balls at the line of scrimmage? Where did DJ say anything about "blaming Tannehill?" Why would a QB break the pocket if there was a perfect pocket in front of him? There are concerns with Tannehill's game, and noticing these concerns shouldn't get someone labeled an idiot, IMO. It's sad that these concerns can't even be discussed on this forum.

Keep in mind, I disagree with DJ's conclusion, but I understand where he's coming from. At this point, in order to win, Tannehill would need a perfect team around him. That's never going to happen in Miami. I think Tannehill can improve enough to win without a perfect team around him; DJ doesn't. Still, we're talking about the o-line and the defense and people being idiots and we're not talking about the subject of the post.

It's like nobody is paying attention, except when they're looking for mistakes in other people's posts.

Neither Big Ben nor Romo have ever had to contend with a line that performs this poorly. It is somewhat better than last year's line, but the difference is very, very thin.

They have had some terrible pass protecting o-lines in recent years. Most of Ben's career, in fact.

Tannehill is a really good athlete, but we don't see enough of that on the field, IMO. I think it's as much on coaching as it is on Ryan, and I'm hoping that he does a bit more as he gets more comfortable on the field. We'll see.

Ok, fine. He says he wants to see Tannehill perform with poor OL play, but I really do not believe either of you realize how bad it was. Name for me one QB that avoids a sack where the inside rusher comes free, the outside rushers are free, and there are no visible open rushing lanes. It is really, really hard for an OL to be that dominated. Our wonderful OL accomplished this feat. Find me a single clip from any NFL game over the last two years where a QB escapes that pressure. Just one.

Break where, out of what pocket? The pressure came up the middle and from around the tackles. Where do you want Tannehill to go?? He can't go up the middle when the tackles fail, cause the pressure is there. He can't break to the outside when the middle collapses, cause three tackles are getting beat. Yes, I would love Tannehill to run like Wilson, but he can't when there's no outlet.

Tom Brady gets killed with that pressure. In fact he did have a poor game on just 4 sacks just the prior week to the same defense.

Watching live you can't replay over and over to see all the whiffs from College and Pouncey. Sattelle was getting pushed back 1-2 yards and there was constant containment on the edges. If Fox wasn't jumping or starting us from 1st or 2nd and 15, then Tannehill was getting pressured in less than 2 seconds. For the past 3 games he's been getting hit after the release without let up, and no flag Stafford gets a graze to the face with a hand and it's instant flag. What's happening to Tannehill is a complete sham by the No Feeling League. They got their Steelers and Ravens in the playoffs so they're happy.

    Colorado Dolfan ...dirty drownin' man?

I'm paying attention fine. Tannehill obviously doesn't need a perfect team to win, he has won in this league.

He has won with a bad defense.

He has won with a bad o-line.

He has won with bad special teams play.

He needs adequate play from those around him. That's all I'm asking for. Adequate play from his surrounding cast and Tannehill will flourish, IMO.

Is he perfect? Not even close, but for anyone to declare that he is "not the answer" is amazingly short-sighted.

I expect him to get better next year, too. If he does so, maybe DJ will see more of what he expects.

The problem is, if DJ had his way now, we would never know.

Tannehill is continuing to improve, despite coming into this league as an obvious "project."

Now some want to give up on the project to, potentially, start another one.

That's where I run into issues with some of these posters.

BTW: The defense has given up an average of 32 points per game the past six games. 193 points.

New England, as the team with the highest offensive output per game, averages 30.6 ppg. That means with New England's offensive production we still, likely, would have lost the majority of those last six games.

    That's just ****ing sad.

This bull**** that Tannehill needs a "perfect" team around him is just that: bull****. Tannehill has proven one thing this season, he needs simply an AVERAGE team around him. Give him an AVERAGE oline, and an AVERAGE defense, and they win more games. Our defense is fraudulent, don't give me their bull**** ranking of 8th our whatever. I'd bet the defense is below average on third down and in the second half.

Needs a perfect team around him? This is so absurd.
