Skip Bayless who is really big for Espn said the browns will cut bait with him,i think its worth a gamble...He is tall fast and dangerous but he gotta stop smoking weed.
He'd have to come cheap, because he is a suspension waiting to happen. You couldn't really count on him to keep his nose clean, so anything you got out of him would be a bonus. I think if he is busted for weed again, he misses an entire season.
Too many issues. Bring that to Miami, recipe for disaster. I'd love him if he wasn't an off field disaster. So... no thanks.
Josh Gordon might be someone that a coach of the caliber of Bill Belichick or maybe a Mike Tomlin could handle, but not Philbin. It's a good thought, but given the current situation I'd have to pass on Gordon, he probably needs to play for a strong leader who will draw the line, and Gordon's respect for that coach will make him not cross it.
If you don't have to compensate the Browns, then you make the move. I'm not so sure he'll make it past waivers if cut. The Rams are already giving Kenny Britt a chance, I could see Fisher going after Gordon.
HAHA With Joe Philbin has head coach? He jettisons players who are up past their bedtime. If the Browns cut bait, we can all look forward to Josh Gordon going for about 200yards/game against us when he goes to New England.
There are a handful of teams where Mike Wallace would potentially live up to his billing, and I don't think the Patriots are one of them. You should be trading him, and as funny as it would be to send him to Oakland I don't think you really need to do that for him to be a failure.
Funny? I think Oakland would be the preferred trade partner. They love speedy 9 route wrs there. We would get two 1st rd picks, a helicopter, a newborn calf, and a handy in exchange for Wallace.
No thanks, we already have Dion Jordan to deal with. Josh Gordon just like Dion will always be a step away from a year suspension and we can not depend on him especially in South Beach...
based on talent yes. based on how he handles himself no. Sign him, make the first clause in his contract be, if he does anything to miss a single hour of practice, game, or any other football related actives he personally has to pay the remainder of Mike Wallace's contract.
Exactly. Joe Philbin doesnt seem like the guy to deal with Gordon. He needs a guy like Coughlin or Tomlin etc who has the respect of his players and know how to handle personalities and problems. If we had an actual football coach here, Id say go for it but Im not so sure we do. One idea I wouldnt be opposed to is Dion Jordon for Josh Gordon. We cant figure out what to do with Jordan anyway so why the hell not? To me thats low risk because Jordan is a diminishing asset right now since we dont know what to do with him and it shows more with every game.
I'd absolutely take him on the cheap. Absolutely. I'm not concerned about Mike Wallace in New England. Tom Brady does not throw a tremendous deep ball, and the second Mike starts acting up, he will get in Bill's doghouse. Brady threw a nice deep ball when he had Randy Moss, but maybe Randy deserves some credit for that, too? Brady/Belichick will own the division until Tom retires and Bill goes with him. The Patriots getting a WR with elite speed doesn't bother me nearly as much as the Patriots getting their defense back to Super Bowl form.
i would make a play, he is smoking dope and not beating somebody up, he must know that his next failure is a year ban at least, if not even life ban under the new substance policy for repeat offenders, so he should have gotten the message
Yes... he has elite WR skills and size, you can say he might screw up in south beach but you can also say he might keep his nose clean in south beach because after all, how many young twenty year olds get paid millions to play football in south beach? Its a dream come true and it beats the heck out of living in Cleveland...
If this staff can't keep Wallace happy. A player who has never had any problems with drugs or other legal problems outside the game. I see absolutely no way Gordon could be expected to come to Miami and get along with this staff or avoid the issues which have plagued him to this point in his career. I expect him to end up with the Patriots, where Belichick and the veteran leaders on that team will keep him in line. Having a WR like Gordon will extend Brady's career by at least two years.
Mike Wallace has been overrated his whole career though. He is also a guy that has bought into his own hype and has never chosen to get better, be will only ever succeed with QBs that can throw bombs downfield accurately, we need WRs that can run the whole route tree with our type of QB and Gordon can. Wallace's route running is some of the worse I have ever seen. Gordon is at least worth the headache, Wallace isn't..
If if he is cut by the Browns and becomes a free agent, why would he want to play for Philbin? Unless the Dolphins were the only team which shows interest in him, I just don't see the Dolphins as a good option for Gordon. The Patriots were able to turn Randy Moss's career around and I think they have the coach and the veteran leadership Gordon needs to turn his career around also. As much as I may hate the thought of the Patriots getting a top receiver like Gordon. It is probably the best place he could end up if he wants to have a successful career and turn his life around. One season with Philbin and he would likely have a worse drug issue than he already has. Philbin just isn't the type coach who deals well with players who have off the field issues.
I do agree that Philbin is probably not a best fit for Gordon. Philbin has probably turned a bunch of fans into drug abusers these past two years So I wouldn't be surprised if Gordon got worse. (Lol) I just find his size and skill set very appealing.
I would take the risk if I was running the team. But I agree with jw, the Dolphin are not a top destination for free agents looking for rings.
I love his skill set and with the right coach and veteran leadership, I think he can be one of the top WR's in the league for years to come. I wish the Dolphins had those things to offer him , but sadly they don't The thought of Gordon in a Patriots uniform is not something I want, but it is probably the best environment for him at this stage of his life and with the issues he has been dealing with in recent years. Belichick has certainly shown in the past that he is willing to give these type players another chance.
This would be a typical "get" for this organization over the last 20 plus years.......................And it would fail. Pass
Watching him and Wallace off the field might be more entertaining than watching Philbin on the field so Im in
He is not a free agent... which I think makes him more attractive. His cap hit will only be 1.6M next year. Now it just depends what kind of pick/s Cleveland would want. But I'm interested. I wouldn't pass on a potential top 10 wideout in the league(on a cheap contract), because my coach is deemed incompetent.
