"Bad timing?" He might not like the move, but this is pretty much when these types of moves are made. Stupid.

I can see your argument here, the difference is that Tannenbaum was a GM before , so therefore he might still want to get his hands into the pot

That might be true. It is still better than Ross wanting to get his hands into the pot.

How is this a half measure?

    Demonstrate.

Because from where I'm standing, the half measure would have been to hire Mike Tannenbaum as some sort of "Director of Sports Science" and then have him run a department that either reports directly to Ross or reports to Dennis Hickey. The former would have contributed to the structure being what people deem (arbitrarily) to be convoluted. The latter would have been more clear, but a way of doing something without doing anything.

Ross did not do that. He made Mike Tannenbaum the HEAD of football operations. He is free to implement analytics, sports science, technology, nutrition, etc...by FIAT! That's not a half measure. That's loading up a cannon and obliterating the archaic structure that used to be the Miami Dolphins front office.

Half measure? Yeah I'm calling bullsh-t on that.

Why is the structure deemed to be convoluted?

This was a move that DECREASED the entropy in the system. You know how many departments there are in a franchise's football operations?

Just eyeballing the Dolphins structure I would say you have Football Administration (Player Finance), Football Support (Security, Engagement, Operations), Player Personnel (Pro Scouting, College Scouting), Athletic Training (Trainers, Therapy, Nutrition), Equipment and Video. And it sounds to me like Tannenbaum plans on adding to the list of departments with a Director of Sports Performance.

Prior to this move, all of these departments answered to a guy who just wants to watch film and handle the scouting effort. Basically there was no oversight.

Now it's all consolidated into the hands of Mike Tannenbaum, whose job description will NOT include going out on scouting trips constantly and scouting players. He gets to design and implement the structure of the football operations by edict, and he gets to manage all of the departments how he sees fit.

That's not an increase in entropy. That's a marked decrease in entropy.

    Awesome post.

It seems like most people think he's coming here to pick players, hopefully your info will temper some of the negativity.

Even giving the benefit of the doubt to all our "insiders", I just dont think this has 1-iota of a chance to impact on the field next season, and perhaps the following too. This type of FIAT takes time, and more importantly getting all prior "non oversight" entities on board and their underlings too, and each has to get on board quickly, to any impact Tannenbaum would like to improve. All long term items, I would wager 3-offseasons min to see impact.

if i would be an owner of an NFL Franchise and these morons from the local media wouldn´t stop using these strong words, i would ban their asses from the facility and would never look back, it blows my mind that this has not happened yet

He sunk them into a black hole, but his two trips to the AFC championship were better than any GM we've had since some people on this board have even been alive.
and i don't think anyone in the Jets thought Tebow was going to be a savior, you're just embellishing to make a silly point. Tebow was brought in to help them win some games, not save the franchise.

it probably doesn't impact us next season, but I disagree, it could very likely impact 2016 when Philbin (and likely Hickey) are gone.

If thats the endgame, it definitely wont impact us in 2016 either. But 2017 maybe, more likely 2018 with new HC and GM in their 3rd year.

And actually having a long-term strategy is a great thing....just setting expectations that longterm = longterm. We clearly have done enough short-term moves thinking they would solve a longterm problem area.

But, again, I am in the camp that nothing will change regarding on the field performance with the AlbratROSS! I want sustainable results. If this leads to it, then I will eat my words. for now, same ol same ol.

Wouldn't you agree a full measure would have involved firing Philbin?

    Drastic.

Dolphins screwed up royally here. Don't let them try and fool you into thinking they knew all along they had to comply with the Rooney Rule. Tannenbaum was EXPLICIT in what he said. So was the press release. Someone blew the whistle on them (likely John Wooten but potentially Hickey himself) and now they're scrambling.

And this could result in Hickey's dismissal earlier than expected.

I'm beginning to think Stephen Ross is either a criminal or so incredibly inept that it actually works to his benefit.

I've got no other way to explain how this guy isn't homeless, let alone a billionaire.

I don't think so....the Marlins have been awful because it's benefitted Loria to be awful and be either the 1st or 2nd most profitable team in MLB because of the stupid way they do their revenue sharing in baseball.

Now that he has some assets he's gone out and it looks like at least he's made a decision to try and win, and has put together a team I am excited to watch this year. And he also does have a World Series ring from his 2nd year of ownership.

Now Ross, has just been incompetent as an owner so far. A PR disaster with his Tim Tebow Worship Day aka Let's snub the hometeam on their own homefield and honor a team who has the opposing QB on it Day. Orange Carpets, with D-List celebrity owners, Night Clubs in the stadium for rich people, instead of making improvements for the average fan, that is TRULY a fan........and that is the tip of the iceberg.

I agree completely Loria was diabolical and hated for much different reasons, Ross is just a BAD OWNER and has no clue about getting it right. I have ZERO faith he ever will be a good one.

But it looks like the Marlins actually are making a real TRY to win for a change with all the moves this off-season. Stephen Ross is just a complete clown and cannot run a winning franchise. He has yet another chance to get it right and then won't give complete control to the new Dolphins football "Czar". He's just an idiot.

that I blame on Sparano. I think he pushed and wanted him for his "Wild-Cat" and then never really used him.
