It has reached the point with Ndamukong Suh that it would be a mild disappointment if the Dolphins don’t snag him. As we have written the past two days, the Dolphins are interested in signing him, and Yahoo (citing a source in his camp) reported tonight that Suh --- who reportedly has been in South Florida this week --- has a slight preference for Miami, but that the Colts and Lions aren’t far behind. Yahoo also reported Miami and the Colts are expected to make the strongest push for Suh and guaranteed money in the deal could top $60 million. As cap guru Joel Corry noted today, the Dolphins could sell Suh on the fact there’s no state income tax in Florida. He noted that a six-year, $102 million deal with Miami or Oakland would be worth $58.9 million after taxes if he signed with Miami, compared with $51.1 million in Oakland because of California’s 13 percent state income tax. I think he does not leave S.FL without a contract..big #90........busting out of the tunnel......sweet !!!!
Stuff, I have heard is he wants to be paid more than Watt even if it's $1 more. He wants a city where he can promote his brand through RocNation his new agency. From a money perspective we are right there, I believe JAX could outbid us. From a scheme perspective our 4-3 plays in his favor and the fact we have a desperate need at DT. The city itself is a huge selling point. Top teams rumored: Miami, Detoit, IND, NYG, JAX, and ATL * did NOT include OAK as I think Del Rio gets his Pot Roast Knighton and calls it a day. Detroit: -familiarity with the organization, his home, and has had a lot of success in their system -limited marketability, lingering frustration by not getting paid upfront, Calvin's cap #'s (12.5/15.9/16.5/17) and Stafford's (9.5/17/16.5) yikes IND: -strong organization, Playoff Contender, Great Defensive Minded Coach, Cap Space grows in 2016 and beyond - 3-4 defensive scheme, still need to pay LUCK (could be record deal, IMO), not much marketing chances in Indy NYG: - Model Organization, SB winning QB/Coach, best city to Market in, RocNation headquarters - limited money just franchised JPP, oh and Manning's cap hit is $19,750,000 ew JAX: - $$$$$, Florida, No state tax, One of the most defensive aggressive coaches in the league - bottom tier franchise, limited marketing in Jax, awful offense ATL: (sleeper) - can play the 3 technique for Quinn, Dan Quinn likes viol;ent players no one more than him, cap space, established offense, new stadium, marketability - awful defense, state tax of 6%
He sure did, but let's be real who doesn't push Dallas Thomas back hahaa. Wake may be happy for 2015, but if he doesn't perform his cap # is too large for his age to be kept in 2016. He will need to perform and Grimes more than anyone this year to be on team for 2016.
Unless the NFL is about to have a cap raise proportional to the NBA in 2016, this just doesn't make sense. We're broke as it is and we still have to replace two receivers, 3 DB's, 1 RB, 2 DL's. The only way this happens is if we're guaranteed to get out from under Wallace's contract but even then that doesn't make sense. This is just not a good look for the Dolphins.
Man, it seems like every offseason, some big FA is reported to want to come to miami and usually, it ends up being nothing... I'm not gonna get too hyped up until they announce the signing...
The Dolphins are going to take a smaller hit this year and then a massive whopping hit in year 2 for a minimum of $25 million to ease the pain where the team will have more cap room to do it. If Detroit can make Suh, Bradford and Calvin Johnson work $$ wise...we can work Tanny and Suh.
Not just Tanny. Lamar Miller, Oliver Vernon, & Pouncey all need contracts, and Rashad Jones has a big number thats not going anywhere either.
If it is all about getting all the money he can in free agency, the Dolphins, Jaqs, and Raiders would make sense because both the Jags and Dolphins can use the no state tax sales pitch on him. The Raiders have plenty of cap space and they probably could offer him the largest contract if they go after him. If Suh wants to be paid a little less money, but have the best opportunity to be on a winning SB team very soon, he will sign with the Colts. To me they are the perfect team for him, but if making a few more millions a year is more important than winning a SB, I suspect he will go to one of the mediocre teams bidding for his services.
Don't forget Clay. Right now the Dolphins are on the hook to him for $7 million dollars unless another team signs him. Even if he does decide to remain with the Dolphins and signs a new contract, he will probably cost them at least $7 million a year for the next several years.
Does anybody know where we ranked vs. the run last year? Cuz whatever it was, Suh would make it better.
Pretty sure Sam Bradford isn't a Lion...and if he was? I know one GM that would certainly trade for him.
All they have to do is cut Ellerbe and Wheeler and they have plenty of room for all of those players next season. Right now with both Ellerbe and WHeeler, they have only 100 million in salary commitments next season.
This is all very surprising considering I had a poster tell me we had no chance of signing Suh at all. Lol That still cracks me up.
deer lord sweet baby jesus lying there in all your wonder and splendormeant.. I like to think of my jesus like a mischievous badger.. please close the deal on the best free agent since reggie white.
it would give the dolphins defense an edge and some fire but i just hope this isnt a leverage play(like we have seen a million times).
I think Suh wants to win so no Oakland. Doesn't like turf so no Indy. Owns a condo in Miami, grass, no state income tax and a team that has potential. And please don't lambast me for using "potential". We played him up there and damn near won so he knows we are semi-legit.
Why would Suh use a team for leverage? He's getting massive $ no matter where he goes. Any team that is interested ain't low-balling him.
Didn't the NFL recently announce the cap is going up $10M this year? That should help offset w/e they plan to do, at least to a good extent.
Not sure about that last sentence but even if he is it's mainly bc the league's best players rarely hit the open market.
Miller isn't going to get a huge deal, especially if they add a guy he's going to split time with. Pouncey is going to cost more this year then he probably will the next 2 years of his contract extension if he even gets one, but could tailor it to also take the hit in 2016. O.V. also is going to have to step up a lot to get a large deal. He really tailed off badly the last half of the year. Virtually disappeared. However, they can also tailor his contract. Miami has a LOT of cap room in 2016 especially if they eat the LB contracts this year and let Wallace go next year. They can probably stack a few contracts in 2016 and take the hit then to lower the yearly hit for the rest of the time. Really Miami isn't that invested in many long term contracts right now. As of right now the only player with a contract in 2018 is Albert. Let that sink in for a moment. The ONLY player. Chances are he's gone before that point to. 2017 the only contracts on record are Wallace (gone by then), Ellerbe/Wheeler (Gone and gone), Reshad Jones (either extended or gone by then), Grimes (Likely gone), Misi (definitely gone by then), Earl Mitchell (Might stick around as his contract is palatable as long as he plays ok). We are in a turnover period where this team is going to start setting up contracts for the next 4-5 years of this team. Suh is that first piece. Tanny and maybe Pouncey/Miller/O.V. are next as that 'future' core.
I like my jesus to be wearing one of those tuxedo t shirts. So he is saying he like to dress up but can party too.
