I have to admit that all the change that's coming through in this possession is slightly unsettling. On the one hand we're getting to see Hickey do his work and prove that he's the right guy for the job. On the other hand, too much change might result in a loss of chemistry that the Dolphins have desperately needed and been building. Sometimes you don't know how important something is until it's gone.

This might become something of a real rollercoaster-ride off-season.

What big changes are you referring to? We haven't lost a single impact player. We're +1 as of today. What Chemistry? We were 8-8. Same as last year. One better than 2012. Chemistry changes are grossly needed. Especially at the HC position, but we'll have to wait until next year... Maybe.

I don't agree with the OP either....Suh is a game changer on defense...An absolute all world, superstar unstoppable dominant force...A once in a generation talent at his position. He makes the entire defense better already. I loved Odrick and Starks and as good as they are, they are not on Suh's level. Suh is the Lebron James of Defensive Tackles and we just signed him.
As for the losses on offense (mainly WR), I don't see any reason to worry either. I think the team sees something in Matt Hazel and he's going to get his shot this year. I also think we are going to draft a guy. We have Rishard Matthews who is now up to bat, Wallace has re-structured which clearly means he is staying, and Jarvis Landry is a stud in the making.
    We will be ok.

My point is more about the unknown effects of moving established pieces and possible moves. I'm not necessarily down on anything done so far. Starks has been solid for the Dolphins. Clay might not return. Even Hartline, who wasn't a huge play-maker was nevertheless reliable in a number of areas. It's a change to the landscape. Not necessarily a bad change, might all be great, but it's definitely a change.

No Starks. No Odrick. I know we got Suh but how many pieces can be removed and we still see Suh as an addition to a good defense and not a replacement or change?
Also maybe no Clay. No Hartline.

    That's a different looking Dolphins.

    That's all I'm saying.

Your point doesn't really match the scenario.

Its like you're saying, sure you can replace Jake Locker with Aaron Rodgers, but you're losing that chemistry Locker had with his players.

They haven't done anything monumental, they released a bunch of ****bags and spent the money on Suh.....nothing to be nervous about...

Not really because QB is a unique position and stand alone. The defensive line is a unit, a team, and as good as Suh is he is still just one man and we now have two holes. Nor just two holes but established players.

We don't have holes at DT. Holes are when you have no one worth a crap to fill the position.

I don't see it as two holes. We let go of Starks. We have Suh. Odrick? We have Vernon and Fede. With Suh on that line, he will demand a double team. That makes the jobs of Wake and Vernon/whoever opposite him so much easier.

Our defensive line is the least of my concerns haha, Even Terrence Fede showed some promise last year. I think we are set in my opinion. I don't see the chemistry angle being played either. We really fell apart last year defensively so it's not like chemistry or lack thereof is going to be an issue.

I think that's a decent concern, because it is true that when you chage the composition of groups, there is an adjustment period in their functioning, and that can end up going in either direction -- very well, or poorly.

However, I suspect that the Dolphins "chemistry" wasn't very good to begin with, and so you stand more to gain than to lose by increasing the talent level and letting things shake out as they may in terms of team dynamics and culture. If the team's chemistry was excellent on the other hand, you wouldn't want to fool with it a great deal.

One of the biggest problems with the team last year was the amount of variation that was present in the defense's level of play, which I believe stemmed in part from a lack of leadership (i.e., poor chemistry) on that side of the ball. So, about the only direction in that regard is up.

Mitchell definitely played well, but the proof will be in the pudding at to whether he can be a consistent, solid starter. Then behind him, what depth?

Like I said, I'm not down on any or all of these moves. I'm just being honest that there are more pieces moving than I expected and a lot of of this will leave questions marks, at least in my mind.

It'll be an interesting 2015 season, and after the draft, it'll give some interesting insight into Hickey, maybe Tannenbaum if we're able to discern his influence, and then, of course, how Philbin and co. bring this together.

The OL is the other big issue, maybe the biggest issue. It still needs serious work.

what chemistry, the constructed team proved to be mentally soft..time for a new identity..Suh is bette than you've ever seen before in a dolphin uniform..the mentality he goes about his business is perfect for this town.

While I don't think we had an elite defense last year, I think the play of the defense near the end of the season made us underestimate them coming into the offseason. When we had everyone healthy and playing we had a pretty darn good defense, which due to mostly wear and tear, ended up being subpar towards the end.

I think the addition of Suh (with what looks to be the same core group of players) automatically elevates our defense to possibly elite status and keeps them going strong well into the end of the season, which is what we needed last year. I'm hoping we'ill see that same level of play that we saw in the first half of the season, but with more consistency, especially in the run game.

With regards chemistry I was thinking across the whole team, not just the defensive line. The new offence slowly becoming a not new offence, the relationships on d that must have been there with the tenure some of these guys have had. Just the general cohesion, because there has been so much change for the Dolphins in recent years that it's been hard for them to settle or to evaluate them.

I hear the contents about a need for change though, and that's exactly what this has been, which is one reason why I said I'm excited about seeing what Hickey manages to do.

Nevertheless, not all change is good change, and when there's this much of it, I can't help but get a little nervous.

What has me worried is not so much what has changed. It's what hasn't changed...

In typical Stephen Ross fashion, there has been a major overhaul, but they've left behind a smelly **** smear on the toilet bowl that will continue to cast a foul odor over the whole thing.

So what happens next year when we get the same mediocre results? Philbin fired and ANOTHER overhaul when the next regime comes in. And the front office will remain so there will never be a clean sweep.

    Ross is a dummy.

We need a LOT of change, given that we've had .500 or slightly below seasons the last 6 years. It's time to get nervous about keeping whatever chemistry existed.

I'm actually liking what we've done so far, and some of that credit has to go to Ross, so he's starting to look a bit less of a dummy to me than before.

Philbin is bad, yes, but keep in mind a wholesale change in coaching staff will likely bring with it new schemes. I think keeping the schemes similar, but bringing in new players and new leadership (Tannenbaum) is a good start. But yes, Philbin needs to go if we don't make the playoffs this season.

we just got N Suh and rid ourselves of a bunch of baggage, I don't see anything that should sour us on the front office at this point..

did we not cut irelands mistakes?

I fully expect to see DeAndre Coleman getting snaps as a run stuffer and it wouldn't surprise me to see Fede getting some interior pass rushing snaps if they don't draft a guy like Marcus Hardison.

Not soured on the front office. Hickey did pretty good year 1, and don't hate what he's doing now along with Tannebaum.

Soured on Ross. He's making changes, but he always leaves a hangover. And IMHO, that is a big factor in Miami's continued mediocrity.

Blitz, he's got open pockets, will go to any extent to help his team, is rebuilding the stadium that was desperate and was a cancer with his own money..and he doesn't meddle.

if philbin fails, he'll get fired and Tbaum will bring in his guy...its all good my brother.
