maybe you might wanna leave this decision to the guys who spend like 60 hours a week with him than us normal fan base, who don't know **** about whats happening in the faciltiy, it seems like he is a very liked person over there and his play also has warranted it actually, maybe he didn't have his best year ,where he played out of position and was hindered working out because of surgery...but first of all it wasn't his decision to play RG, the staff put him there and we all know he is a top notch performer when he is playing C.

I would like to see more of a dominating player, but he's still young at 25, its time he take his game to another level, He's always saying the right things when it comes to his team and coaches, i'm pretty sure hes working very hard this offseason, so if he can gain some more strength in his acchor hes got the mobility to do some things that others can't, which allows us to do some things schematically that others cant..

I would not of guessed that his game from what we have seen would have garnered that contract and title, but he is a good player with upside left, so lets see what he can do for the next two years.

i have called him a dumass on occassion and I think he deserved it.

i think the contract is not as big as it sounds, its "only" 22 million guaranteed and he got an 11 million signing bonus, i think it is a 3 year deal and then we see where he is at after that

we have to wait for the yearly numbers on that deal so
far the only thing we know is that its 22 million guaranteed and a 11 million signing bonus

This contract is very scary. Why would we overpay him now. Halfway through the season if he is proving that he is one of the most dominant centers in the league and staying healthy then sure reward him with a contract like this. Why we would do this now before we lock up our franchise QB boggles my mind a little bit. A team that is paying the most expensive defensive player in the league and needs funds to pay its QB cannot afford to pay an offensive lineman 10 million a year. Are we going to be able to extend Vernon and Miller now also...doesn't seem likely. Mike Tannebaum left the Jets in shambles because of contracts like this so I hope he doesn't do the same to us. I guess we will have to wait and see but at this point I am very skeptical.

I don't know the man personally, so I can't say Pouncey is wrong. I simply go off what I see and what I've heard from other sources. You can't tell me Philbin does not come off as a bit stoic. He's not a fiery leader of men; I'm just not sure many of the players respect him, at least from what I've heard from players who leave and media members familiar with the team.

One can also realize the desire to clean up the locker room with recent draft picks and moves. I'm sure Philbin is behind much of that in order to create a culture. He may be the nicest guy in the world; all I know is what I see and hear about his team's culture.

Stotic yes, I agree. I think its a strong trait to be honest. He doesn't jump up and down throwing things or lose his temper. Just Joe cool..

I havent heard anything from players, just outsiders making guesses. On the flip side Ive heard Pouncy, Tannehill, Wake all give Philbin praise in public when they didn't have to.. Personally I hope he is trying to create a culture of responsible, hard working winners. Ever think to yourself, damn they get paid sooo much money and then they ***** and throw temper tantrums? I know I have on several occasions (NFL players in general).

Tank God! A reality check for the little kiddies and the fairy tale mentality.

Bottom line: Pouncey isn't an elite center and he never has been. He is a degenerate moron, and this contract is an abomination.

You don't need PFF to find the problem with Pouncey. There are games every year of his career when he's pretty visibly getting his *** kicked.

If you're drafting a Center in the 1st round/making him the highest paid in the league you should expect for him to at least battle elite opponents to a draw.

Pouncey is obscenely overrated, the smart move was to use that to our advantage and trade him, not grossly overpay him.

This franchise is run by buffoons and idiots.

We could have received good compensation because for some reason he seems to be getting special favor because of his twin brother.

    PFF's O-Line Ranking:

    32. Miami Dolphins (21st)
Pass Blocking Ranking: 32nd, Run Blocking Ranking: 31st, Penalties Ranking: 29th
Stud: When Branden Albert went down things did not go well. He was in All-Pro contention before the injury struck and it was a huge blow to lose him.
Dud: In preseason Dallas Thomas (-32.7) struggled at guard. So naturally, being forced to start at right tackle did not go well as he was overmatched and routinely beaten.
Breakdown: Just horrible. The 210 combined sacks, hits and hurries they allowed were most in the league and they weren’t much better in the run game. The musical chairs that saw Mike Pouncey to guard and Ja’Waun James to left tackle had a detrimental effect and it was brutal to watch them. It’s a young group that needs to play better.

    https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2015/01/08/2014-pff-offensive-line-rankings/

As has been mentioned he's a top 3 in his position. Albert is also top 3-5 in his position. You keep and extend guys like this.

This post is a crock of bubbling chit!! And what does Branden Albert have to do with this thread.

Pouncey didn't rank anywhere near the top. He ranked in the 50's last year. He was horrible.

I haven't heard this type of scathing judgement since Moses chastised the Jews for worshipping a golden calf.

This is where anyone other than fool would have spent some money:http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/6609/clint-boling

We could have easily had a 25 year old free agent who was solid as a rock three years in a row for almost half what we paid the degenerate moron.

Pouncey should have been traded and the cap space spent on Boling and a better CB than McCain.

We could have had CB Chris Culliver and LG Clint Boling for what they are paying Pouncey and McCain.

And!! at the same time adding a 2nd round pick. I hate these ******ed bastards.

My post is nothing more than facts. You're trying to judge Pouncy as a guard rather than a center. Albert is being paid handsomely because he too is at the top for his position. Again, you keep guys like them.

NFLN reporting the Pouncey deal is $44.75M extension, not $52M.

That is GREAT news. Still expensive but saving 7 million off of what was reported is huge.

If it is a 44.75 extention, wouldn't that mean that it would include the $7 million he is due this year. Thus making about a $52 million dollar contract?

$52M total, but I guess the previous reports were the extension itself was $52M?

This just makes it almost exactly like his brother's deal. Maurkice got $44.2M, Mike gets $44.75M

This means he'll be making like $8m or so per year for the remaining 5 years of the contract after this? With maybe half only guaranteed?

Listen, if you want to talk about Brandon Albert why don't you start another thread??

Brandon Albert has nothing to do with this thread and nobody is talking about him but you, and no matter how much you try to use Albert's great half season last year to somehow make Pouncey look better it isn't going to work, it's just pathetic.

It seems like too many of our fans b**ch about anything and everything these days. People complain when we let people we draft walk away. I'm not sure why people wouldn't want to lock up a young OC who has the ability to be one of the elite ones in the NFL. This team has far too many holes to be trying to replace another one in a year or two.

I haven't loved his antics off the field but I am hopeful that with maturity that can be improved.

The Free Aaron Hernandez fund just got a big bump!
This guy is a douche. Big one.
But he is a damn good Center so it's a good signing.
Not many role models left these days.

I wish you guys were right about him being this great center but the fact of the matter is.. he just isn't. This is Mike, not Maurkice. This isn't Alex Mack or any of the other guys who actually really do finish in the top on a regular basis.

What has he really had?? one top ten finish in 2012? I know he got a lot of attention his first year because of his brother and being picked so high but he only actually finished in the mid teens, same as in 2013?

So after absolutely stinking it up at OG last year why does he deserve to be paid top money???

He's entering the prime years of his career, and going into this one healthy. All Johnathan Martin and nightclub incidents aside (the latter being less than concrete of an involvement than the former), the staff considers him a leader and he's a vital part of the interior offensive line that's going to be seeing two young starters on either side of him this season. I've got no real problem with this signing.

Why is he a douche? Because he stuck up for his friend who should be presumed innocentHow? Please make a case that joe montana could throw the ball better than any of the other players i listed before him. You're crazy if you think he's better than anyone i listed. He simply couldnt complete passes that those guys could. Is he a great leader? Yeah he was a great leader and game manager but thats just it, he relied until proven guilty? If your best friend was accused of murder, would you not stick up to all the idiots slandering his name? Whether he is guilty or innocent, the media tends to always skew the situation and leav out key facts. Lets now pretend you were there and know aaron did it. Thats besides the fact though, hes a good football player and worth it. 8 million might seem like a lot now but come 2016 cap negotations, we may be seeing salary caps near $200 million by the time his contract ends.
