I've seen a few mentions of CS around here, and with all the COD talk/threads I figured one of the most popular and raw-aim/skill dependent FPS franchises of all time deserved a thread too. (If it hasn't already been made and buried.)

I'm super bias, I've been playing CS on and off for upward of around 13 years now. It used to be my life, I had a competitive sponsorship when I was younger and the game had consumed my soul.... Admittedly though, E-sports are night/day different then they used to be,. But GO has been pretty awesome from my experience. It's fun to just pub and chill or comp and play some MM in. My biggest issue is probably the same as most peoples, the Matchmaking system and the MM servers, but that is a Valve problem and a People problem way more than it is a CS problem. From my POV It's nice to see CS so modernized and back in the spotlight of the mainstream. The game has evolved SO much over the years while not steering too far away from it's original roots, which is nice. (looking at you CoD and BF). CS GO is the game CS:Source wishes it could have been (I would assume, because I hated source as a 1.6 player.), with Valves marketplace and micro-transactions for cosmetics sprinkled in.

I figure there is more than enough of a sub culture to the game that would warrant some decent discussion. Anywhere from Skins/Trading to Maps, strats, comp play, pro teams, streaming etc. I've been toying with the idea of Streaming for a while now.

Anyone on the board routinely play? Would be cool to get a group together to play, Maybe even a steam group.

Feel free to add my main account hood_rich (should show up as dWreck)

Haven't played since source. Can't fathom how people are spending hundreds or thousands of dollars for skins......SKINS! What's wrong with people?

Well in all fairness I had like 300$ worth of skins from just purely trading with people, I didn't spend any money. However I do know people who just dump their own cash into the game. I think it's nuts. Gotta give credit to Valve, Lol. Valve does the paid aesthetics in several games. Good idea on their part.

If you haven't played since source, but you liked CS, you'd love csgo.

I would upvote this post twice if I could  I agree with you across the board haha. I played Cs (1.3, 1.4 and then 1.6) religiously from 02-07 or so. I was never competetive, just hung out in pubs but I really enjoyed the game and at my best was Top 5 on few big pubs. When CSS came out and Valve shifted to that, I really disliked it. Really disliked it. I finally got around to getting GO last year, and was pretty engulfed in it for few months. Now I just log in and play every once in a while.

I really like the skin system, gives you something unique and at the same time to catch up to CoDs and BFs. I actually got lucky with cases lol Had a StatTrak min wear Red Line and Vucan. Traded those away for some keys and a knife. Overall, I really like the game. Won't ever get in to it as I used to, but it's still nice to see that 15 years later it still dominating PC FPS games across the world.

1.3? Oh man don't get me started. I could talk all day about the good ol days of cs. One of us! One of us! Lmao. I remember playing CS at a LAN center the day steam came out. Crazy stuff.

you unboxed something worthwhile? I h8 you hahaha. I dont even wanna know what kind of knife you have..... Admittedly the only money I spent was throwaway steam wallet cash I had trying to unbox and I never got anything. CS is worse than others like dota and tf2 because it shows you what you are missing out on while you gamble .. adding Insult to injury lmao. I'm at like 35 or so crates and the best skin I got was about 5$ :(.

Maybe we could pub some time. Ima update the op.

I'm a DMG, but my smurf is normally around nova master so maybe we can play for fun sometime, I don't mind helping out. Virtually all of my friends are silver so if I don't smurf I wouldn't be able play with them, really lol

I appreciate it bro but I wanna earn my rank [emoji14]

It is difficult to rank up with randoms in matchmaking though. Any tips? Form a team maybe?

Wasn't talking about carrying you, but no worries man. If you need any tips or anything just hit me up.

and yes, that's what I was talking about. Matchmaking is a pain in the azz. I got to DMG In like 57 wins and it was rough. Nothing worse than going like 40-15 and still losing because your team has a griefier. Or a foreigner that has no business in NA queues but MM puts them there anyway with 200+ ping. And the people who are 5 ranks higher than they should be and got carried. Then hackers. The list goes on.

the best general advice to leveling through nova and AK is to try and queue with others. Teams are good, but it's a lot easier to just try and build up your friends to queue with. Most of the people I ever queued MM with when I first started were people I found in death matches that are still friends of mine today lol. Good rule of thumb for damage control is to never queue with less than 3 people. You can find more in the recruitment sections of forums on league websites like CEVO or ESEA . There are also tons of steam groups you can find if you go searching in the hub like the "csgo competitive" one that has tons discussion pages of people looking to team up.

it's especially rough on an awper, too. I found myself entry frag rifling on most games. Either because everyone on the team thought they knew how to awp or everyone was too scared to lead a rush :P

You're preaching to the choir bro.

I'm always the entry fragger especially at long doors on Dust 2.

I figured I should team up but I haven't gotten around to it. Appreciate it man.

I feel you man. At least you probably have very few, if any smurfs at your rank. I'd be ecstatic just to get up to the AK ranks. Global Elite is more of a bucket list goal for me [emoji57]

Hey bro. Thought I should let you know that I hit Gold Nova Master today after making the switch to rifleman. I still feel like I'm a better AWPer but I find that having more money and the ability to drop weapons helps the team win more.

Excellent work! Sometimes solo queing and not awping helps alot. a ton of factors come into play, but Keep at it. I run into that issue too, where alot of teams split and i play mid/awp every game and i feel like i could be doing more in a site with a gun. (esp if my teammates aren't able to hold their site.) Just 'do you'. Hold your angles, don't peek more than once. let the kills come to you and you'll fly through it.

I stopped playing competitive for a week or so due to so many blatant cheaters... but i finally qued again today and hit supreme master! Really stoked about it. 1 rank away from global. been a tough grind.

    On another note:

Operation Bloodhound patch hit. I bought the operation.... so far very underwhelming. the maps are just 'okay' and it's been very 'meh' so far.

They implemented the "profile ranking" system which is probably a future counter measure for smurfing maybe. Other than that I can't really tell why it's there.

Anyone give this operation a try?

Been playing CS on and off since Beta 1 & 2. Back when we didnt really have many maps(there was a really small beta map with minimal terrain and no buildings) and then eventualy we started getting some here and there- I remember CS_Docks was really one of the main ones in beta, and CS_Seige as well. Funny how those never made it through the years. I think Seige was one of the better well rounded maps with some of the best sniper battles at the middle, a tunnel system underground that flanks the sniper position for the T's(but it is relatively easily defended) and the T's had some decent ability to rush for a hostage map. Atleast they remade CS_Militia for modern use, but sadly almost nobody plays it.

We also used to be able to zoom in with the M4 but it didnt have a scope on it which was kind of strange. Oddly enough when CS became popular I stopped playing it(1.6), but Source was decent enough when it came out...I just wasnt a big fan of the new hitbox system, way too many random headshots from sprayers.

CSGO has been a good balance between the two imo, and the matchmaking system while flawed at times, still is pretty cool with the whole ranking/team match aspect. The skins are really just there because of the success they had early on with Team Fortress 2. It works a little better in TF2 though since they dont have the boundaries on shop items that actually affect gameplay.

While it was almost a novelty at the time, I do kind of miss vip_oilrig and its early popularity. Some of those matches ended with some pretty funny results if the guy in control of the VIP had a clue & pistol skills.

Siege was around for a bit during 1.3-1.6 days. New militia is kinda poop imo, not even worth calling it militia.

As for oilrig, yeah man it added another dimension, I wonder why it never took off. I always enjoyed it, so did everybody at the internet cafe I used to play as a kid. Nice to see another cs old timer

I also miss the fy_poolparty maps and the aim_ak-colt maps where you just shoot it out

scoutzknivez <3. probably the only map where I enjoyed low gravity. Assault was another one of my favs back then, it just had a nice feel to it for a hostage rescue map. The only thing that sucked was the old graphics engine would reveal people sneaking through the damn vents lol. I always preferred CS maps over DE tbh...there was just more to the matches than picking a bomb site to rush and then camp defending the site. Although I did play quite a bit of the original Dust back then, but Im one of those weirdos who always like it more than Dust2. I know Im in the vast minority there.

Half-Life was easily the best game purchase ever. A long, difficult single player campaign that actually had an engaging story all told while in control of your character and in first person. The multiplayer deathmatch was fun for a short time...but damn if the whole mod scene didnt just take my breath away. I had never played mods before CS, but between counterstrike, team fortress, natural selection, and jailbreak....it was just definitely the best bang for your buck of any PC game. It says a lot that most of those mods are now standalone games you have to purchase & some were bought by Valve. Every time I boot up CS and see/hear the valve intro it gives me nostalgia flashbacks.

Some of the best times I had in Team Fortress was playing on Friendly Fire servers and playing spy...many people were hesitant to "spy check" due to hurting their own teamates(except for damn medics who could heal after checking). That lead to some very innovative gameplay that I will always be fond of. I had a little fun early on with the spy in TF2 but its just too common for pyros to wreck a spy on sheer luck/spy checking everyone they see.

Sorry, haven't visited the forum in a while.

You're right dude. It takes a solid team to allow me to AWP but I've gotten really comfortable as a rifleman now. Plus I like having the extra cash for drops and in rounds where an AWP isn't affordable.

Congrats on getting closer to Global Elite. I feel like I've faced a lot less hackers lately. Have you noticed that too?

Dang, I haven't been here in a while. I hit global on my smurf a few days ago, and finally just hit on my main now. Such a good feeling. My smurf acct was 117 wins and 100% solo que, no groups at all. my main was mixed solo and group ques. So stoked to finally have 'beaten' the mm boss. Such a toxic community sometimes. But atleast there are clients like CEVO and such. Woot.
