This would be my guess as well, with a fine in addition. No repercussions for the Patriots as an organization (fine/draft pick). Though the fact that Brady apparently was extremely uncooperative and lied about it may actually get him a longer one. If there is one thing you should learn about the NFL, lying to Goodell is about the worst crime out there - more than cheating, wife beating, drugs, etc.

If the organization does not get penalized then this is a charade. They have team lawyers deny requests for interviews? If they are lily white clean they should still be punished for not being forthcoming. Should.

Hell, if he only gets 4 games, then why the hell doesn't every team go ahead cheat, then lie about in the event, 5 years down the road, you get caught one time? Go ahead and refuse to hand over any records.

The offense is serious and the lying and refusal to comply with league requests is worse.

My call would be two lifetime bans, reduced to one on appeal, with the possibility of posthumous parole into the HOF.

That wasn't my uncle making the post in the forum but He is exactly like your second point. He won't admit they cheated but he gets upset when I label the Patriots as cheaters and comes back with what he did showing how other teams cheat. Talking to him about it is like talking to a 2 year old. He doesn't believe it is a big deal, won't admit they cheat, but points the finger at others who do. He doesn't even believe they cheated with spygate. He brings up a supposed quote from Aaron Rodgers that says he likes his footballs over inflated and wonders why I don't call Aaron Rodgers or the Packers cheaters. I keep telling him that anyone or any team that breaks the rules deserves to get in trouble. I told him this is your logic: Police officer, I know I was speeding but I don't agree with that law and I know others who speed so I shouldn't get in trouble for speeding officer.

This is all about the act of cheating and the act of covering it up. Few people seem to understand that.

I think it's more about the perception of it. NFL can't let itself get bit by too big of an integrity bug, so there has to be a penalty that's perceived to be fair, even if it's not (whether that means the penalty should be greater or less based on actual evidence).

Official: Brady suspended 4 games, team fined 1 million. Lost 2016 first round pick and 4th round pick. Brady will likely appeal that suspension to get it down to 2 games.

Worst of all, pretty sure every road game Brady faces he will have every fan calling him a cheater. His reputation is ruined.

Why does everyone assume that an appeal will be successful? Its not a foregone conclusion.

This one is too high profile for Goddell to admit he made a mistake in the punishment. Yes, appeals have worked in the past, but what new information will Brady bring to the table? What arguments are there to make that the decision was wrong?

Goodell has him pretty near the minimum for what he's done. i.e. systemic cheating; lying to the investigation; failing to co-operate fully by not turning over his phone. I think 4 weeks will stand because you can make a damn good case for 8 weeks, and a shakier case for a whole year based on the Wells report.

No way in hell he gives up his phone. He's hoping he can win on his reputation, character, and expensive *** legal team. No new evidence, no compelling deflection of prove facts, but I still don't have faith he'll do 4 games...maybe 2.

There's talk that after his appeal and the Patriot's lawyers are done Brady will walk onto the field in game and not suffer a single penalty outside of bad press.

I figured this would be the case as soon as Don Yee mentioned taking this to court. The NFL doesn't have any evidence against Brady. None. In a court of law, they're not going to care that he didn't hand over his cell phone and participate fully with the investigation. The NFL doesn't have the right to rummage through his personal phone. Truthfully, I can't help but wonder if Rodger Goodell is smiling. He signs off on Brady's punishment, thus appearing to do the "right thing," gets some good press after a ton of bad press for getting it wrong, and happily lets the courts overturn it.

I don't really know the details. Jonathon Vilma got the courts involved during his suspension. Brady is prepping to do the same after his appeal is heard by Troy Vincent and Rodger Goodell.

Why aren't people talking about the fact that Brady is throwing a couple of no name nobodies (who did what he told them to do) under the bus just so he can MAYBE play an extra game or two?

Vilma is piece of work. It's one thing to hate a guy for what he does against the Fins, or because he's an *** off the field. He transcends that all as a guy who actively tries to hurt the NFL as a whole. A lot like Sean Gilbert.

Vilma sued Goodell for defamation and lost. He was reinstated based on an appeal to the NFL which Tagliabue oversaw. If Brady were to bring a lawsuit he would be opening up a can of worms because then the NFL could subpoena his phone and anything else they thought was relevant.

The reasoning behind Brady not giving up his phone is pretty solid. And Brady in his text messages to one of the two stooges, who prepares footballs, never implicated himself. In fact, Brady at one point tells the guy to calm down, he did nothing wrong. It's reasonable that he wouldn't implicate himself to anyone else. If worse comes to worse and he has to give up his phone, he might be OK. I'm sure he and his new lawyers are ready for that and anything else at this point.

Wells said that he offered not to take possession of the phone and simply have Brady and/or his representative provide any messages that were relevant and they refused. That eliminates any valid claims to privacy and suggests that there is something in those texts that would implicate Brady and/or the organization further. The bolded statement above actually implicates Brady as he would have to know what was done to make it.

    Discovery Process

"Once a lawsuit gets underway, parties to the lawsuit or their lawyers start gathering information related to the lawsuit. This investigative process is aptly named "discovery," because it often turns up facts and documents that were previously unknown -- to at least one party to the lawsuit anyway."

"Private matters. In recent years, courts have increasingly recognized that some aspects of personal life should remain private, beyond the reach even of lawyers. But the right to privacy is a fairly recent and still-developing legal notion. As a result, there is no clear definition of precisely what it covers -- and the extent of its protection varies considerably from state to state. Roughly, the right to privacy protects a person from having to divulge information that is not obviously relevant to the lawsuit and is a matter that a person would not normally discuss or reveal to anyone outside of immediate family and intimate friends. This might include issues such as:

    health or body issues
sexuality, sexual practices, or sexual partners
    spiritual or religious beliefs, and
    immediate family relationships."

    http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/formal-discovery-gathering-evidence-lawsuit-29764.html

Wells said he didn't want non-pertinent info on brady. So what was the little cheater afraid of? What was so solid about his reasoning and why should anyone take him for his word?

Because it simply confirms opinions of the P.O.S...that he is a self-serving, spoiled, crybaby, asshat that doesn't care as long as he can keep trotting his twatty self out there to further improve his "legacy."

Canton will someday be tainted with his presence, unfortunately, because too many people get blinded by the jewelry and don't take into account the root matters at hand.

Unless, of course, some REALLY good evidence comes out of this process that really kills his character...I can dream.

    Favre:

"I don't think by any stretch, in my opinion, that Tom was cheating. It sounds crazy. Historically, there's been stealing of signs—and that goes to baseball and football. Just whatever advantage you could get. Lester Hayes putting Stickum on his arms for the (Oakland) Raiders. Pine tar. It's just endless, the advantages that players would try to get.I don't know if Tom can honestly say he has completed more passes because of it. I think more than anything, it helped with the grip based on conditions. Not every game. And would other players do it? Sure, I have no reason to think otherwise."
