We have seven picks in the draft, with probably more on the way.

Keep in mind: This mock is based on information and picks we have at the moment.

    With that said, let's begin.

    Round 1, pick 1:

Glenn Dorsey, DT, Lousiana State or Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio State - Right now, I'm torn between the two. Both of them have a knack at getting to the quarterback and both of them know how to stop the run. They both are also known for their high motor. Gholston has the advantage with his ability to drop into coverage (not a knock against Dorsey. I don't think there are many defensive tackles, if any, that are known for coverage). Both of them are great linemen and both of them, at the moment, are worth the pick.

    Round 2, Pick 1:

Charles Godfrey, CB, Iowa - This kind of tricky since Godfrey has a chance of being a first rounder or second rounder. This corner is known for his tackling, ammasing 83 and 65 tackles in his junior and senior year, respectively. He also recorded five interceptions and nine pass deflections, covering receivers such as James Hardy. This pick will give someone to start opposite of Will Allen and improve our secondary.

    Round 2, Pick 24:

Martin Rucker, TE, Missouri - People say that the tight end is a young/developing quarterback's best friend. If that is the case, John Beck barely has friends in that position. David Martin has been inconsistent and Justin Peelle, admirable as he may be, is more of a blocking tight end (or even an H-Back). Picking Martin Rucker will help John Beck's development. He has great size (6'6" 255lbs) and is known for his great hands. He is also has great speed for his position and could be used as a redzone target.

    Round 3, Pick 1:

Mike McGlynn, OT, Pittsburgh - While our line has been playing pretty good, a couple of positions do need an injection of youth. One of them is the right tackle position. With Anthony Alabi gaining, than losing, his starting position, we'll need a right tackle of the future. Mike McGlynn has been a mainstay on Pitts' line. He's part of a line that protected Tyler Palko and helped paved the way for freshman tailback LeSean McCoy. He also has great size at 6'5" 315lbs.

    Round 4, Pick 1:

Mike Klinkenborg, ILB, Iowa - Zach Thomas, unfortunately, is going to retire eventually. We need someone that could be groomed behind him. Mike Klikenborg racks up a lot of tackles, putting up a junior season that included 129 tackles. This guy is also very smart, being a 2006 Academic All-American. Combine him with Thomas's tutelage and we may have the ILB of the future.

    Round 5, Pick 1:

Traded to Kansas City for QB Trent Green.

    Round 6, Pick 1:

Brian Witherspoon, CB, Stillman - This is somewhat wishful thinking. There's a fifty chance he might not be here with this pick. (Freakin' Cheifs trade). He is a Division II All-American and he also runs a 4.25 40, though he is more known for his track acheivements. While we COULD use this pick elsewhere, but it's very hard to pass up potetential like this.

    Round 7, Pick 1:

Angelo Craig, DE, Cincinatti - Also a pick that has upside, Angelo Craig is known for forcing fumbles, at one point forcing three fumbles against West Virginia and returning one for a touchdown against Syracuse. He also recorded eight tackles for loss and three sacks. He has the atheleticism and the size to be move to OLB (6'5" 245lbs).

I like Godfrey and Rucker picks. I think Dorsey is a first overall for a 4-3 defense if his back is no concern but I wouldnt spend an overall first to have him play a 3-4 DE. The Senior Bowl would change my thinking on that if he showed he can be as dominant playing that position but there is no way he plays in it. And yes I know he played it in college but he's not as dominant IMO as a 3-4 DE. I prefer Chris Long as a 3-4 DE

I don't see Dorsey being our pick at 1 anymore....I see Chris Long being the pick at this time if we stay at 1....I can see us taking a corner at 32 but I'd rather have Jenkins if he's there or Cason...I do like Rucker.

    Ozzy rules!!

Like 1, 2b, and 3, although I think you have to include Chris Long in the discussion at #1. In my mind, it's almost a certainty to be one of those 3 players if we don't move down. I'd prefer either Jenkins, Cason, or Aqib Talib as I think Godfrey could be had later on. Really like the Rucker pick, and if he's still there, I'd rather have Barry Richardson over McGlynn, but the idea of taking an O-lineman there is good. Not sure about the rest.

Sorry couldn't get past the first pick. I figured since that was the wrong pick the others wouldn't be any better. Can we at least wait until after the bowl games to do mock drafts? Also, once the combine hits, the stocks will rise and fall anyway.

Silverphin, you've identified a lot of needs we should address in the draft, but I don't like the order in which you think we're going to address them. A corner at #32 is kind of pointless in a draft deep at that position. IMO, TE at #32, ILB at #55, and CB at #65 is most likely.

Klinkenborg plays with a lot of heart... I like him coming in to replace Zach. Godrey is a very good corner, although I'm not sure taking him at #33. Seems a bit high, but I am by no means a draft expert...

That's the great thing about fan forums. Everyone can have an opinion and can post mock drafts if they think a certain player should be chosen for their team. Great job outta you, Silver. :wink2:

I think most of us are counting on landing a receiver or two in free agency.

There are a lot of mid-level WRs available this year, a couple of whom are either good fits for the system or have prior relationships with Parcells. Patrick Crayton, for example.

Quite a few are free agents, such as Patrick Crayton. Plus, after the many holes on our defense, I feel this draft is going to be more on the defensive side of the ball.

Yes, but none are above average type. Theyre all possesion/slot/#3 guys like Crayton. The draft should find a young, speedy, possesion reciever to match Ginn's vertical threat.

Crayton has been the de facto #2 guy in Dallas this year with Terry Glenn out, and he's done very well. There's no reason why he can't come in and fill the same role on this team, especially since Derek Hagan can't catch a cold.

Crayton and Welker are essentially the same, they benefit from playing next to elite WRs(Owens and Moss), similar to how Dwight Clark benefited from playing with Jerry Rice. Im not saying theyre not good WRs, but I dont think we should only look at FA for WR. Theyre not many difference makers out there, I mean, we have Booker and Hagan, how much better could Crayton do with this team? And I say we should take a look at Crayton or a WR like him, but draft one as well. I suggested Manningham if he declares in my mock, and we could pick him with the top pick in the 2nd round.

I mean, just look a this list:
Patrick Crayton(likely to be resigned by Cowboys)

Bernard Berrian(a Marty Booker type that disappears at times.)

    L.J. Smith(a decent slot option).

Randy Moss(come on, hes going to be a Patriot for the next couple of years).

Donte Stallworth(worth taking another look at since we passed on him).

Bryant Johnson (decent #3 or 4 option).

    D.J. Hackett(ehhh)

    Taylor Jacobs(bust)

Drafting a WR at some point is a must.

How is Berrian a Marty Booker type other than both having played for the Bears?
Berrian is very fast. Booker has never been close to as fast as Berrian is now.

LJ Smth is a tight end

I don't recall us passing on Stallworth. It was more like he passed on us.

Believe me, I'm with you on the mediocrity of this year's WR free agents, but that doesn't mean we can't use any of them. Crayton is likely just because of the Parcells connection.

Furthermore, presuming Cameron is retained, his offense doesn't really need a super WR corps. He just needs guys who are football smart at WR. The real stud in his offense comes at tight end. There just happen to be some very good TEs this year. I say draft a TE over a WR, and fill two needs--pass-catching and supplementary blocking--with one pick. Fred Davis, anyone?

There are probably half a dozen CB's ranked higher than Godfrey. Talib or Cason will probably be there, should we take a CB at 32.

Crayton and Welker the same? Moss demands double coverage... so does TO. Teams pay attention to Donte Stallworth... whose the number two guy in Dallas? Oh wait, it's Crayton. Booker is getting up there in age and although Hagan should still have one more year in Miami, he's not showing much promise. You're not going to find many difference maker WRs via free agency, they'll have to try to become that in their new homes with a better chance to be that "number one guy". The thing is though with the draft, is we have so many holes, we can't just automatically say we're going to pick one certain position at such and such time, I think Parcells/Mueller/Cameron will pinpoint his guys and see whose the best player when the time comes, not target player A at #33 and Player B at our second 2nd round pick.

I really don't see the big deal, it's likely he could come here with the Parcells connection. I would estactic if Crayton would make his mark here.

Huh? Marty Booker type? Berrian is a speed WR, while Booker is a possession guy. The only thing that is common is that they both played for the Bears. Berrian isn't the top WR out there, but he's not a Booker type and he only disapeer because of a piss poor offense that revolves around a terrible QB (or QBs) and no running game.

Slot option? There's goes all credibility... L.J. Smith is a tight end... He would be a great pick up for Miami IMO, unless we can draft a guy like Davis..

Yeah he'll probably stay a Patriot, I don't really want him coming to Miami anyways...

I think he'll return to the Patriots too, I'm not a big fan of bringing him in here either...

Bryant isn't just a "decent 3rd or 4th option"... He's playing behind Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald, IMO a top five WR combination. If he had a chance to become a number one or two guy, it'd be anywhere but Arizona.

Showed promise in Seattle, but I doubt he leaves Seattle. Wouldn't want him in Miami anyways...

Meh, not really. It's not a "must" this year, would be a good idea next year for sure. It just depends on how FA pans out...

    Agreed.

Not sure why every mock draft someone chimes in with "what about position XYZ?". This team has needs at QB, WR, TE, G, LT, NT, DE, ILB, OLB, S and CB. Unless Bill trades down multiple times AND we rely on the later rounds to produce 2008 starters, we're not going to be able to address all of our 2008 needs in the 2008 draft.

I'm with you on Fred Davis; however, the draft sites I've been looking at, footballsfuture.com for example, have Fred Davis projected as a late first round pick. Are you suggesting a trade down? What about Gholston?.

One of the reasons Colt Brennan had success this year is that:thumbup: senior receiver "Rivers" would go after the ball wherever he threw it. We need someone that will go after the ball, instead of someone waiting for the ball to get to them. Probably pick him up in the late 2'nd or early 3'rd round:up:
