Hum interesting. It seems like they would lock him up now but maybe they have some sort of plan without him in the picture. I'm not sure but its a little weird.
This title is misnomer. It just says that Carey has not been approached with a new contract. It doesn't say that they won't offer him one until the end of next season or anything.
Figures. Parcells and Co. have absolutely no loyalty to the existing players so it makes sense they won't hurry to the table to lock up Carey before his price soars. If he has a superb season, then they'll even talk to him but by then he might go elsewhere. If JT can be shipped out, I don't think Parcells and Co. will have any qualms about seeing Carey sign elsewhere next season because they'll just bring someone familiar to them in.
This deal gets done, maybe during the season. Just too much going on with rookie signings, tc, preseason right now.
He'll get a deal as long as he's consistent this year. With an Oline that's a work in progress, having guys who can play multiple positions is a huge plus.
He's going to want and get Left Tackle money in the open market. Unless he gives the phins a hometown discount, I think we're going to lose him. You can't pay two guys LT money. And if they wanted Vernon, instead of drafting Jake, they pay Carey and draft someone else. That's what I think.
Maybe...but I also recall reading something about Carey being happy to be shifting back to RT, saying he preferred it. If he was sincere, then he shouldn't be expecting LT money. No question, though he would get some pretty hefty offers if he hits FA.
If he performs this year he will be rewarded....this admin prizes both the O and D lines and Carey is the type of player they will pay for IMHO.
of course he's fine with it. but when a team comes a callin, with that big ol cap space, and you're presented with LT money, which the phins probably won't be offering since they've given Long quite a bit of money, what do you do? and the fact that he just played two very solid years at RT and LT is a commodity. you know what you're getting.
Yeah, no doubt. So I would hope that at some point before the season is over, a new contract would be worked out.
I still do not understand why the Dolphins will not sign this guy to an extension. Trying to save a few dollars by waiting until the off-season only opens the door to discontent. Carey has been a class act on and off the field. He's going on his 4th head coach and agreeably and willingly plays every position with maximum effort while performing well. What's not to like about him? Get the man signed and lets move on.
He isn't going anywhere. If they have to they will franchise him. Remember this was most of the parts of a staff that paid for a VERY expensive Dallas OL. They just want to see what he does with a year under them before they commit all that money.
Hey I hope so. But it would make sense for them to try and extend an offer, at least once, before the season began? but they didn't. Why wait until he gets more expensive?
I think (or at least hope) that if he plays well that he will be given a new deal at about game 10 or so of this year. We should still have a lot of cap room left at that point and are going to need a way of carrying it over into next year. Its very hard to find good young tackles in this league that have his versatility and if we let him walk I am going to be one pissed off dude. IMO he should have been extended last year if not the year before. IMO one of the critical parts of rebuilding is keeping the really good young talent you have and Carey is one of the few guys like that we have on this roster that who will be in a walk year.
