? I'm talking about Andrew Heaney pitching LIKE Kershaw. I know Kershaw is legit. But Andrew Heaney got called up last minute yesterday to replace Shoemaker, and allowed 1 ER and struck out 7 I believe in 6 IP.

Welcome to the big leagues Steven Matz. First start sunday.

Mets ain't sticking with this 6 man rotation bs much longer so hopefully a trade for a bat coming in 3....2..1. We need some damn bats. Trade niese gee wheeler and granderson for braun Aramis and Segura ffs like has been rumored. Flores over to 2b and Murphy to Utility role. Alderson needs a set of freaking balls.

The key is to see once the league has seen him a time or two, if he adjust to hitters adjusting to him...

Right, I mean Barnes hasn't really had an opportunity as a SPer but was eh as a RPer. Workman was always labeled as a future RPer and was decent. Ranuado was overhyped and was never suppose to be anything more than a RPer or #4/5 starter. Webster and RDLR flamed out.

Again though what's the reason for this? Is it that their system isn't making them better or they're just not as drafting pitchers well? Again it's been 6 or 7 years since they had a good home grown SPer come up and stick.

Didn't see yesterday's game (thank god) but the other start he got hit hard by the Jays he wasn't using his offspeed stuff and they were hitting his FB. Game is about adjustments, there's a lot to like about him but he's not going to turn into Cliff Lee overnight like people want.

Baseball gods apparently don't want nice things to happen for Stanton. Good thing we still have Arod though.

Sorry if this has been covered already, but what do you guys think about the All Star Game and having it apparently loaded with players from just a few teams? I've never been a fan of it being an "exhibition" chosen by fan vote, personally. Rather, I think it should be at least an attempt to reward the players who are having the best season, not simply those who are the most popular or the fanbase who stuffs the ballot box the best.

I'd like to see a system that's something like 25% fan vote, 25% player vote, and 50% GM vote.

There's really no perfect answer. If it's an exhibition just let the fans vote for the starters like they've been doing and have the managers and players pick the rest. If it means something then the GMs of each league should get together to pick the team since they have personal steak in the outcome, although I doubt they'd spend more than 20 minutes on it.

Really, the MLB should use the ASG as a way to market the sport to newer fans, they should load the teams up with superstars not just guys having a good 3 months that way you don't get random guys like Willie Bloomquist making it.

I personally hate having the ASG "mean something" and I can't remember the last time I watched a full game. It just doesn't interest me nor do I ever get worked up over who makes it and who doesn't.

That's cool. I get that it doesn't mean all that much to everyone. I guess my main concern is getting the guys who are having the best season recognized, especially those who aren't on good teams or the biggest markets. I wish that there was something along the lines of the NFL All Pro team after the season for MLB too. Where the guy who had the best 2015 season, regardless of team record or what team they play for, is named to the squad. I could care less who's "most valuable", and all the talk that goes along with that. "Superstars" and popularity and all that nonsense is a self continuing system that goes all the way to the HOF, sadly.

It does but again the whole point of the ASG is to get as many eyes as possible to watch and to draw in new fans, it's all about marketability and ratings. Superstars will do that, not (just looking at the 2014 rosters) Brandon Moss or Pat Neshek(!!!) for example.

I get what you're saying and agree having the game after the season makes more sense because it truly rewards guys for good seasons not a good 3 months but unfortunately isn't possible because when would the game be played? Right before the playoffs? Guys on playoff teams wouldn't play and if you wait until after the playoffs none of the pitchers would want to pitch sitting on the sidelines for a month or so. Like I said there's no real perfect answer but I guess what they do now is good enough.

Marlins dangling around Mat Latos and Dan Haren in trade talks. Both have been very solid for us but we arent winning this year.

If the Sox are at least 5 games back by the All Star break I think they'll make a big run in the 2nd half.

The worst thing for them is to be kind of in the race but not really so the FO will be shy about playing for 2016 and beyond.

Thing is they dont have much to trade away as sellers that is really going to net them anything shy of giving away ballplayers they dont want to........it is almost a status quo and let their contracts expire and move on...

Oh I'm aware they won't but I'm just saying for any contending team that needs a solid starter to replace some of their gas cans at the 4th or 5th of their rotation, those are two solid pitchers to grab. Latos has been pretty good since coming back from the DL. Dan Haren even more so.

Buchholz would be the big prize and would probably bring back a good package with his team friendly deal and having 2 years remaining. I also think Wade Miley, Koji, and Tazawa would have value. Napoli and Victorino would be worth taking fliers on for teams but yeah they wouldn't get much back for them at this point.

Speaking of gas cans, Rick Porcello just gave up a 3 run homerun as I typed that above. Pretty sure Dan Haren can take his place in the rotation.

I'm pretty sure I can take his spot in the rotation right now. Ugh. I think it might be time that he comes down with the old dead arm DL injury. If the Sox are serious about contending he can't take his next start. Bring on the Brian Johnson Era.

I'm glad my Cubbies finally won a pair after losing five in a row, but sheesh. Talk about a combined lack of offense! We've been in a hole for about two weeks now. But go pitching! We've gone 23 innings without giving up a run.

Buchloz yes you def will get a good package back, but he is worth more on the Sox.....I will honestly say Ben is losing it if he trades Clay, unless they plan on spending bucks in the off-season on FA pitchers....Same with Miley but to a lesser extent and you have to wonder if there is a riff between him and Farrell or if it grew since that episode. That could play big into whether he gets traded or not. Koji you might get a lower prospect for and forget Tazawa, Napoli and Victornio other than having recognizable names they are garbage....I have watched Naps swing through 91 MPH 4-seamers all year long....Really think they should have kept Lackey in hindsight....

Also Matt Moore is coming back, huge boost to TB, the Division is getting stronger and stronger...

Problem with Buchholz is he's either one of the best pitchers in the league or one of the worst pitchers in the league in any given year. The talent is absolutely there but he's just never consistent. I think if you're the Red Sox and aren't contending you have to put him on the market to see what teams are offering and if a team blows you away with a package you jump on it simply because who knows how good/bad Buchholz will be next year. He seems to be good every other year. He's just weird.

Apparently Miley has had blow ups like that in the past and I read an article from one of the Boston writers where they quoted someone from the Arizona organization saying Miley has 2 or 3 of those blow ups with managers/coaches a year. Really don't think it's that big of a deal long term. He's been pitching pretty well lately. He's probably just a hot head heat of the moment type guy.

Totally disagree about Tazawa, he has value. One of the better 8th inning guys. I think Koji could possibly bring back a B level prospect depending on the needs of the team. But you're right Victorino and Napoli have zero trade value and it would be a salary dump.

I'm sure the Sox would have liked to keep Lackey but he was hinting loudly that he would have retirement after the 2014 season instead of pitching in 2015 for them for 500k. Sox felt like they had to deal him and get something in return. I can't blame them for trading him, but can blame them for the return they got back.

It will be interesting to see how Moore pitches. Usually control/command is the last thing pitchers get back after having TJ surgery and Moore was always pretty wild. He could help but TB needs some bats right now.

I wonder if they are going to call up Severino. I went last night to Pawtucket to watch him pitch, got to see Refsynder, Judge, Castillo, Nava, Cecchini (although didn't realize he is struggling like he is), Gamel.....pretty sweet....

I mean the kid has electric stuff, I believe he is ready now for at least a look see in the bigs....maybe after the ASG?? They should throw CC in the pen and call up LS.....CC's splits against LHB/RHB are mindblogging....he dominates LHB....

The Cubs have ten more wins through 80 games this year than they did in 2014, which of course would project to 20 more wins for an entire season. Quite an improvement in one year, but its been building for a long time. Once they get through playing St Louis four times in three days this week, they then play 20 consecutive games against teams with losing records before facing the Pirates again in August. Time to make some hay and solidify the WC spot.

Good story, happy for him, but he's one of the guys I was talking about that in a couple of years when we look back at the rosters we will wonder how the heck he made the team.
