Cleo went to Arkansas State, all the way over in Eastern Arkansas, Jonesboro, to be exact. University of Arkansas is in Fayetteville, in the Northwest corner. I know this 'case I'm from Arkansas, bred, born and raised...Go Hogs!!!
Dont know about you but if we dont get what we want i think another good RB is a good idea, especially when Ricky is done, and Ronnie might take 2 years to heal properly and be back to where he was. If McFadden is this once in a life time RB you do not pass on him unless u get every point the 1st overall is worth
Three points: 1) Ricky is already done. He was done after 2005. He and Keith Traylor shop at the same clothing stores, because both walk around with forks sticking out of their backs. 2) Ronnie is ahead of schedule on a rehab period that was expected to be as short as 9 months in the first place. 3) Here's the little secret about Darren McFadden: he's Ronnie Brown's equal, not his superior.
I didn't hear about that one, but awesome! I am sure Ronnie will be a little slow out of the gate, but it would be nice to have him healthy enough to go for TC. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hear this news about Ronnie?
Set Match and Point!!!!! This is the skinny of it. We have the #1 pick overall. It could easily go for Chris Long It could just as easily go for Glenn Dorsey (I hope) heck it could even go for Jake Long....I kindve hope not...but I seriously doubt it goes for McFadden.. NO reason. Ronnie Brown is one of the very few positions we DONT need to improve on, and McFadden isnt even an upgrade to begin with
On Ronnie's rehab time, from a Sun-Sentinel(?) story quoting the standard recovery time for ACL tears as 9-12 months. Ronnie suffered a clean ACL tear, and what little we've heard suggests that he's coming along speedily. On Ronnie's current condition, from a PFW news blurb. Second from the top.
I totally agree... I like McFadden Gholston and DOrsey all for several reasons, but the one thing that McFadden brings to the table that the other 2 don't is that he will instantly make our offence better. If you can manage to sign one big Oline free agent and draft a starting rookie in first day, you have a good Oline with 2 excellent backs, two speed demons (ginn n booker ) ... and then we would know what beck really is made of
When has anyone on the dolphins torn anything in their knee and been anywhere near playing shape the next year. RBs and knees take 2 years, anything less is wishfull thinking. Remember how ahead of schedule Cpep was???? If Mcfadden is on Petersons level then youd have to be stupid or just too Damed loyal to consider ronnie on the same level. Ronnie had a decent year but 3 years and 3 injuries, time to get someone with the ability to play the whole season. Guys remember the NFL is a business. The players have loyalty to whoever pays the most. So don't be loyal to them at the risk of sounding stupid. IM loyal to the Dolphins, not any of the players. I want the dolphins to win, I could care less what it takes to win (except for brady, i dont want him on my team) just win.
Yeah, and you would stake your entire future on him being as good as Peterson? Hell, Peterson wasnt even as good as Peterson coming out of college last year!!! ....and btw, business is business, dont forget that Peterson has also already missed MUCH time due to injury....but your premise is that you would still take him as the number 1..(I probably would too knowing what we now know) but your arguement doesnt hold much water IMO...
Totally different injuries, totally different situations. To compare Ronnie's ACL tear with Culpepper's triple-ligament tear is absurd and ignorant. A better comparison is Braylon Edwards' ACL tear. McFadden is not on Peterson's level. Seinfeld was right.
True, hindsight is 20-20. You can't ever be 100% sure of what they will do in the nfl, But Ronnie has not proved that he can stay healthy for an entire season, and a knee injury just adds to the problem. If you have the chance to draft the Best overall player in the draft, and you cant trade down for every point that pick is worth then you take the #1 overall, you do not convince yourself a DT is worth that pick because u need it. picking Mcfadden can also force people to trade for him if they really want him.
the question was any of the dolphins...yatil green anyone? Just think about the dolphins history and luck with injuries... Plus ronnie is 3 for 3 on injuries. Can you place your future on a player that cant go the entire season 3 years straight and now has a knee injury?
Running back is the LAST thing this teem needs right now. Ronnie, chatman, ricky. We have much bigger holes to fill. First, we need to fix our d line. If you havent noticed, we cant stop appalachian state from running all over us, you cant win games if u cant stop the run. Denver is a perfect example of that.second We need to fix or linebackin core. Zt wont be here forever. crowder is a question mark, porter looks to be coming along, and if we play a 3-4 D, ghoulston can be an option. 3rd we really need a secondary. Will allen and jason allen are the only players that should stay. we should look to get a corner through free agency. 4th, we need some wr's. Free agency is also an option in this area. We need an oline too. we need to actually give our qb time to get to his 2nd read.
And I disregarded it. There was no point. Injuries are not somehow different just because they occur to players who wear aqua and orange. Come up with proof that we should be seriously worried about Ronnie's injury beyond "he's a Dolphin and we have horrible luck" and I'll listen.
I know we have wholes but you dont let someone have the #1 for anything less than its worth. You dont take a need over the best overall either (especially a DT that wont fit the system that has a back injury). So if we cant trade down you dont take the best overall? This is the #1 overall. You Don't give it away without getting something good. If we can get 2 #1s Im happy. If you cant you don't just say well, dorsey isn't the best but we need him. DTs can be bought, Great RBs and QBs are born. all we've had is serviceable since marino left.
WHAT? great RBs don't matter in today's NFL think of the great RBs in our league, and then think of how many superbowls they have won.
what would u do with the #1 over all...take the #5 overall because u couldn't trade down? let another team that we play 2 times a year take the best because we needed a DT?
You take the best player available out of the positions you need help at. That doesn't mean Darren McFadden. It does, however, mean a defensive lineman. Gholston and Long are both worthy of being taken #1 overall, as is Glenn Dorsey. Speaking of whom... Wrong. Running back is increasingly considered a fungible position in the NFL. Willie Parker? Undrafted free agent. Brian Westbrook? 3rd round pick. Clinton Portis? 2nd round pick. Maurice Jones-Drew? 2nd round pick. And look at the no-name running backs who've had success this year: Brandon Jacobs (4th round pick), Selvin Young (UDFA), Earnest Graham (UDFA), and Ryan Grant (UDFA.) With all that in mind, wanting to draft at #1 a running back of equal (possibly slightly less) skill than a running back we drafted at #2 two years ago is a total joke. If it were up to some people, the Dolphins roster would have 15 RBs and 7 QBs. Finheaven seriously overvalues the first pick. It's just that: the first pick. There's intense pressure to nail it because of the guaranteed money associated with the slot, but that in no way means you have to take the consensus best player. It just means you have to nail the pick. If that means Glenn Dorsey, who I'm tired of hearing people dismiss out of hand without even watching him play, then so be it. If it means Chris Long, so be it. If it means Vernon Gholston, so be it. (If it means Jake Long, the mob starts at my house.)
is there any other team out there that would take dorsey #1? If we are going to ake someone besides the consensus #1 then it has to be an Olineman. Our oline cant block a 3 man rush on a passing down.
St. Louis, Oakland, Denver, Chicago, Arizona, Tennessee, Detroit... It's amazing how some people here base their entire opinion on one or two games instead of the entire season. The OL was great up until the second Jets game, dipped, came back somewhat alright against Baltimore, and dipped again against the Pats. I suspect they'll come back again against the Bengals. We're not taking an offensive lineman in the first round unless a) we trade down, and b) a top-tier talent like Ryan Clady falls to us. Stop relying on popularity of position and start thinking in terms of top talent that fills needs.
Why does everyone talk about the Cowboys? Their draft picks in the first round are nice but they are later first round picks, we need franchise type talent, we aren't a few nice players from contention. That and why would the Boys move up to pay a RB 35 million in guaranteed money when they already have good Rbs and a good team? They are in a perfect spot. They can take whoever the best players are late in the first round and will be a leader in the Superbowl race for a few years. They'd be stupid to trade with us and we'd be stupid to trade with them.
I bet our qbs would like more then 1/2 a second to throw the ball before wilfork is in their face. I played wilfork in high school, and could block him longer than our line, not much longer but anyways theres a difference between run blocking which we are okay at and pass blocking which we suck at. We have a young qb coming in to take over hopefully next year. He needs 3 seconds and our o line cant give it to him
Doubtful, Dorsey could go in the top 5 (maybe, I've seen Sapp fall to #10) DT's do not provide a lot of value, DE's and QB's (hit or miss granted) and Rb's do, they have more of an effect on games as singular players. This year there doesn't appear to be that consensus top 3 Olineman pick, if we were to go Oline #1, it would be based purely on our front office and scouting and perceived needs. Only 2 Olineman have went #1, Both are Hall of Fame types that were considered "great" before the draft, we aren't seeing anyone develop like that. Draft 2008 looks to be De's and Cb's and second tier type Qb's.
Only two at #1 overall? I wont dispute that cause I dont have the time to check it right now. I can name 2 right off the top of my head that were number 2 overall... Tony Mandarich Robert Gallery Would you pick either of these even in the top 20....first round?
whatever happened to the walter joneses and orlando paces of the world? havent seen dynamic talent like that at LT in a little while
I thought Parcells hiring was the best news I've read this month, but as one of Ronnie's biggest fans, this far out beats Parcells in Miami for me. The best part is, Ronnie Brown has a lot more time to rehab till next training camp than most football athletes usually have. I don't like injuries on our players, but thank god this injury came much earlier in the season than had it happened, late in this month. We know Ronnie Brown is a freak on the training room. He will not be satisfied being at 95%. I expect him to come back much stronger than before.
