Buchholz never makes it through a season without some injury. No Buchholz isn't on the level of Hamels but he's a bit younger and he's much cheaper, and with the team options if he has a bad injury or just sucks the team could cut him so no big deal. Buchholz, if he was healthy and the Sox made him available would have brought back a pretty good package.

Kimbrel and Ross have both been linked to the Cubs. Both guys are pretty good.

I would be be ok with trading almost any of our other prospects, and Starlin Castro, but Baez (in my heart) is untouchable except in a trade scenerio that's so implausible that it would never happen.

    WTF???

The Pirates trade for JA Happ and Michael Morse? Are they TRYING to lose now? These guys don't deserve to be on any MLB team, much less a WS contender with the 3rd best record in baseball...

Tabata for Morse? Seriously??? Can I veto that trade as a lifelong Bucs fan? :tantrum:

The mets should be going with: Conforto in lf, granderson in cf and yoenis in rf. Duda-johnson-tejada-Murphy until Wright gets back

Crazy bat speed, but last time I saw him he was a SO machine. Has he gotten any better? If he can develop into an above average 2b, that could be a wicked IF for the Cubbies. Rizzo-Baez-Russell-Bryant. I am not sold on him however. There is a reason why the Cubs shoved a guy like Russell up but have kept Baez down. He has not shown enough.

Odd to see the Yanks and Sox stand pat pretty much, especially the Yanks. I do not understand them at all. Severino and Judge are not good enough to be as untouchable as the Yanks made them out to be.

And the Padres, wtf man lol. That team is a disaster and a half. I applaud guys like Preller who really are not afraid to go for it, but Jesus you have to be smart about it. And then to hold out for mega deals when all you have a middling pieces to offer? Bleh.

Mets made some solid moves, I was impressed. They will need to ride that pitching staff hard. Wonder if all those young guns are ready.

How do you know they aren't good enough to hold on to?
And all reports said the Yankees were willing to give them Mateo..whom they asked for and take on Gyorko's contract, instead of saying "yes", preller pooped himself, calling around for other deals. He made his bed

Severino starting on Tuesday for the Yankees

Not sensitive, but people complain when the Yankees buy talent and then they complain when they "hug" prospects. They can't win....I personally want to give the kids a chance. If it doesn't work out, fine, buy in the off season. But, why trade the farm for a rental?

Severino and Judge fill needs soon. Judge I expect to see sometime next year to replace Beltran and with every pitcher for the Yankees having question marks for this year and next Severinos value goes up. Mateo is the true gem though there is a reason so many teams wanted him.

Why wouldn't the Yankees just keep Severino if he's a good pitcher?

My feeling is, if they didn't use him to get hamels, they are planning on keeping him. His fastball is ++ and his change up is above average. He's working on his slider and Mariano taught him the cutter in spring training. Phil Hughes came up with much less and was somewhat successful. The thing severino is good at is keeping the ball down. He's about to be thrown in the fire. It's an exciting time, for him, and for Yankees fans.

I think I read somewhere that Severino was the #16 prospect in MLB. If that's true I don't see why they would trade him, unless it's for a big "Name" player like Cashman does frequently.

The main issue/knock on Severino from scouts is he doesn't use his lower half when pitching making it hard for him to repeat his delivery while also putting extra stress on the shoulder/arm. There's no one in the MLB that is quite like him which is why scouts don't think he'd be able to be a successful MLB starter.

I agree. Buying free agents is a lose lose deal. You might get immediate return but it throws payroll structure out of whack and you get stuck with CC type players making 25m when they aren't effective anymore.

    Two.words.

    Larry. Rothschild.

Keith law hates all Yankee prospects, the thing with severino, and I'm no scout, but I am somewhat of an expert on biomechanics, out of the 5 starts I've seen him make, the last 3 look like he's actually figuring it out.

We'll, see. Is he Joe Kelly? Probably not, but who is? Lol

I think trades and free agents can definitely help, but you need to be smart about it. Some of these deals that go for like 8 years are crazy.

He likes Mateo quite a bit. His main dig on Severino is about the lower half. If he can figure that out like you are saying though, he may be really good. I like seeing young players succeed and Yanks have been a team I root for in general, so would be nice to see. The issue is fan bases in general (especially the more devoted and hardcore fans) tend to overvalue their people. Cubs fans have been fairly bad about it lately, thinking everyone in their system is another Bryant.

I think it's easy to dismiss what a scout says, in this case Keith Law, by saying he hates Yankee prospects because you might not agree with what he says, but at least Law makes valid points. Law was also one of the first guys to come out and say Betances wouldn't be a MLB SPer because he can't repeat his delivery. Law also has a pretty good track record of being right on prospects. We'll see though.

I don't think it hurts the organization as there were loud whispers he was the one behind the Bobby V hiring and some of the other missteps the Sox have taken in past years. Although to be fair to him he did do some good for the organization, he helped build up Fenway Park and was key in getting guys like Schilling and Beckett to the franchise. I think he was basically the Randy Levine of the Red Sox where you plug your ears when he talks and hope he doesn't say or do anything stupid.

But truth be told you really don't know how much of an impact he had without working in the front office daily.

Change is good sometimes, I don't know much about Sam Kennedy but every time I've heard him talk he comes off well and has been visible when the Sox haven't been good.

Syndergaard reminds me a little bit of Beckett with that high fastball, which is really a fireball at 99 MPH, to finish batters off.

Pitching for this team is no issue. Hitting is. Let's do some simple math for a few mets pitchers....
Matt Harvey has made 56 career starts and allowed 0 or 1 run in half. Somehow he's only got 21 wins.
Jacob degrom has never allowed more then 3 ER in a home start over 2 years and only 2x more then 3 runs this year. 19 wins. Not this year. This and last year combined. Just sayin...this team can't score runs and support it's pitchers. If they do, they will be an extremely difficult out.

Which is why every mets fan wants them to sell and gtfo. They bought the team (part of it) about a month after their last WS win on 11/14/86. 0 WS since. When they've spent, they spent stupidly. Now we have a GM with a brain and they won't spend. They need to poop or get off the pot.
