    What a dope.

He also wants to renegotiate the deal he signed LAST YEAR!

Become a QB is the best thing I can tell him. QB is arguably the hardest position in sports, there is a reason these guys get paid!

He levels into Tannehill but praises Cam Newton, what has Newton ever done to be considered elite? One of the most overrated QBs today.

He's absolutely got a point. He probably should have articulated it without pointing out Ryan Tannehill specifically because it's going to obscure his message, but QB pay is becoming problematic.

The pie is expanding, but quarterbacks are eating a bigger percentage of what players share. Mediocre quarterbacks are getting paid more than 95%+ of the starters in the league. It's a problem almost in the same kind of vein as top-10 picks were before the rookie salary ranges were instituted.

Didn't Tannehill handle the 'Hawks' defense last time Seattle played Miami?

He needs to rip the NFLPA. They're a sorry excuse for a union. QB's salaries are only problematic in so far as the players, through the union, have agreed to a restrictive salary cap relative to the number of players on a team and the revenue generated by the sport. The impact a QB has on a team is profound and NFL teams have determined that based on the scarcity of the QB, they're willing to field essentially replacement level players at certain positions in order to pay a competent QB. Maybe they should push for wage sharing, position salary scales, or stronger bargaining tactics from players and agents. Possibly even fully guaranteed contracts in conjunction with lower nominal contract values. Bennett is doing really well protecting the owners and their system by ripping other players though.

    Maybe NFL players should unionize.

I don't necessarily disagree with this in the NFL. The contracts aren't fully guaranteed. Owners agree to pay players a certain amount for a certain level of production and will very quickly cut them if they can't meet that level of production. NFL players, when they exceed that production, want to renegotiate that deal to earn more money. That's a fair trade. When an NBA player signs a contract for $100 million, he's getting that. When an NFL player signs it, he gets his guaranteed money, two to three years of checks, and a renegotiation offer under threat of termination near the end.

In other industries, this is called playing hardball and seeking out your value. If I worked at a investment bank and I was the firm's top performer, I would get offers from other firms to bring my talents and client base to their firm. In the NFL, other firms get penalized for courting me, I can't seek out offers, I will likely never see the entirety of my contract's value, and then I'll get called ungrateful if I want to get more money.

If a player negotiates a deal for their previous level of production, isn't it fair to want to get more if you exceed it? Besides, if contracts were fully guaranteed and un-modifiable, players couldn't even do this. The owners just don't want to pay full price since contract value is amortized and cutting guys to replace them with younger cheaper talent is very easy.

Tannehill is a better QB then he is a DE so really he should shaddup. The dude has been complaining about his pay as long as hes been in the league it seems. Hes no Darrelle Revis (i.e. hes not an elite player) that hes good enough to always be complaining about his pay.

Thats football. You value the one Quarterback far more than you do a role player whom you don't expect to play every down. Anyways, We shouldn't expect a meathead DE to understand the business side, and/or how much less of an asset he is to the franchise's success. Something tells me another mediocre Pass rusher will come my way sooner than later.

Tannehill got exactly what all the other (good)Qbs are getting these days. Just because it's THAT much $... Don't assume he was given elite $. How much less than the likes of Newton,Dalton,Kaepernick etc. do you really expect him to demand on the market?

I thought the same thing, his argument went out the window when he said that. Brady is the biggest crybaby in the league after he takes a hit.

His point is correct. He should not have been name dropping names though. That's not going to help him get his contract any faster.

He's an idiot and here's why....(its not because he picked on Tannehill)

He cancels out his argument. He says:
He says Tannehill has only won 7 games, implying that the QB is responsible for wins and losses. So, if the QB is responsible for wins and losses then even average ones are worth the contracts they are getting. What's 8 wins worth to a team?

This X1000. I am from North Carolina and am so sick of hearing Panther fans rail on about Cam and how awesome he is. I know it was one quarter of one preseason game, but the game on Saturday revealed just how much more polished of an NFL QB Tannehill is and it's not even close.

Well, I think he is semi *****ing that Tannehill got paid, and the subtext is "..better than Russel Wilson"

THill's 4th qtr comeback record is not very good, thus "won 7 games", watch the games and our D consistently collapses in the 4th qtr. Perhaps if we had larger leads in the 4th qtr etc, still and all..tough cookies Mr Bennett..stop hatin'

He's just hating on people smarter than he is...i.e. Quarterbacks...

Ya their salary is way higher...but how much more rare are starting, franchise quarterbacks compared to DL players? Supply and demand...nothing new here.

He's just a crybaby idiot. I hope he and Chancellor BOTH sit out, and don't get paid, and have to pay all them fines while damaging their reputation.

I wish I had $5 for every time somebody on this forum said, "the Seahawks are going to run into major money issues once they give RW his contract."

He should be mad at his agent, his deal is in the 2nd season, I mean no team is going to renegotiate a deal that soon. I guess he was upset that Wilson played in 2 straight Super Bowls for like 500k a season right?

You know how that works though. It will be pointed out that it's a "team" sport when you have a losing record, but with a winning record? All of the sudden it will matter.

I do find it slightly absurd that the market can pay a guy that kind of money before he's proven his worth in gold at the games brightest stage - i.e. the playoffs.

Quarterbacks are the most valuable position on the field by a long shot.

And the real kicker Rock, he hasn't even proven he CAN lead them to the playoffs, or even play consistently well in 4th quarters of games (80 QB rating in the 4th last year).
However it is a 2 year prove it deal, so if he isn't the guy they can cut bait in 2 years.

Fair to THill, Cautious Coach Joe is called that for a reason, meaning not 100% that it falls on THill on the W/L column, really crappy FG kicked in Sturgis and a D that has been folding in the 4th Qtr and a HC that coaches not to lose, rather than to win far to often

I'm not going to get into his comments on Tannehill, it's a misinformed mess that I don't care to unravel.

CBA took care of that problem w/rookie contracts being slotted. What's the problem, again?

A QB is a defenseless target vs. 4-6 defenders, weighing anywhere from 25-100 lbs more than him, playing kill the man w/the ball. In addition, QB's practice the hardest motor skill in sports, throwing a football accurately to a moving target, while being hunted by defenders. What makes them better than you? Their skill set is rare and valuable. Yours isn't.

And yet, he gives TB12 a pass? The guy screams at refs for flags after every hit. Often getting them on command. WTF?

This whole article is a joke. Sounds like he's mad Russell Wilson is eating up the Seahawks salary cap and is taking his frustrations out on other QB's in the league because he can't call out his own team mate.

Who gives a ---- what he says? Michael Bennett meet Ndamukong Suh. There's a nice DL contract. QBs get what the market bares. It's the most important position on a team of a sport which makes more than the other sports combined. Stating that Tanne won just seven games is ridiculous when it's the ultimate team sport. It's about seeing his talent while also noticing all the factors surrounding that record.

The real number is...how much does he make compared to other QBs...not the flat amount...or maybe even what % of the team's salary is the QB's salary, and how does that compare to consistent playoff QBs...saying 100 million doesn't cut it.

And yet he complains to the Refs legal hit or not. And usually gets a flag due to his status.. So no this bozo is not correct. Living in CT and Mass i have heard every excuse from it from being a "winah" to he will do anything to win! ( The irony).
