Actually, I feel like he is saying it would of been an embarrassment had RT17 not thrown for 4,000 yards considering the massive amount of attempts he had.

Lazor recognized the fact that Tanne wasn't that accurate, so he scaled down the passes to being really short, which is why, despite completing such a high %, his YPA barely went up, seems nearly impossible to do that, unless your throwing much shorter passes, his YPC went down by nearly a yard, from 11 in 13 down to 10.3 in 14, both bottom of the league numbers.

None of the receivers avg 13 YPC, the top receiver on the team avg a pathetic 9 YPC, and he also led the team in YAC, over half his yards were YAC, on avg he caught 3.5 yard passes and turned them into 9 yard gains.

Tanne eeked out 4k due to one anomalous game, 400 yards against Min, and evidence to support that is that his avg of 252 yards per game, was only reached 6 times out of 16, so clearly, 252 was not his actual avg, it's more like 240, which would not get 4k.

Without Wallace taking the top off, I wonder how that will play out this year.

yea I get it. that really wasn't much of an accomplishment since as you say he had sooo many attempts, the fact that he had a crappy OL and receivers that were inconsistent at best... yea, nothing to write home about. at least you give him credit for lowering his TD?INT ratio. I'm so embarrassed for Tannehill.... SMH

So until we sign 2 more pro bowl OG's or draft two more in the first round and then with that, we sign Antonio Brown, Dez Bryant, Julio Jones, AJ Green, Calvin Johnson, Rob Gronkowski, and Jimmy Graham, then we can finally hold RT17 accountable for his very own YPA? Awesome! Because I also know that ONLY RT17 has backbreaking OGs and the very worse WR core in the history in the NFL. Every team has Pro Bowl OGs and no other QB has WRs that drop any passes, totally understand.

Funny thing is, we will start blaming all those playmakers if RT17 was still averaging a pathetic YPA. "Calvin is undersized, Antonio has brick hands, Gronk just sucks, Dez is soft, I mean its amazing Tanne did what he did with these piece of **** weapons"

The problem with retorts such as this is they are black or white. One way or another. I have never said or implied that Tannejill has no shortcomings or isn't responsible for his actions or lack of actions on this team. The problem with stats is that even though they don't lie they can tell a different story based on how you look at them or apply them. For you obviously they are one sided and belong solely to Tannehill. Making him lacking and incapable, barely able to eek out a 4k yard season and a 27/12 TD to int ratio. Looking at the whole team, including Tannehill, I see a tremendous achievement in spite of shortcomings including Tannehills and his supporting cast. So stick with your shortsighted viewpoint and snarky comments to those who don't agree with you. What ever..

Im saying, I see the scapegoat being setup before the season has already started.... Someone once told me that we are gonna be harping on OG play more then any fanbase in the NFL until RT17 does something of significance. I understand our OL has issues but besides Dallas and Pittsburgh last year, every OL battled problems. I dont see many people on here giving RT17 grief when he will take unnecessary sacks because he was a statue in the pocket just standing in one place, a pocket becomes much easier to collapse and as a QB, you become more susceptible to a sack when playing statuesque football, but seemingly enough, most of our fanbase will just point at the OL and say, yea its their fault.

Then you haven't read anything I've posted. The issue I have in regards to Tannehill, is people like you, who hold Tannehill responsible for everything from wins/losses, to ypa, and absolve the team around him of everything. Whenever someone like myself points out what Tannehill had to deal with, you, and others, get all mad, and accuse me of making excuses. It's not an excuse. It's a reason. I've said many times that Tannehill clearly had an issue with the deep ball (though not as bad as many of you want to act), and he needs to make better decisions in the pocket (or lack thereof). The thing is, when it comes to pocket stuff, I don't want Tannehill having to constantly avoid pressure in under 2.5 seconds from a 4 man rush. It's ridiculous. So, I harp on the oline, as they are the bigger problem.

Tannehill would have won the Super Bowl on the Seahawks.

People who hate on him just aren't paying attention. When you see teams like Buffalo, Ctown and the Jets having QB competitions with Josh McCowan, EJ Manual, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Something called Tyrod Taylor (wasn't he in Jerry McQuire), And Geno (Glass Joe) Smith. You realize having a QB that can throw 4,000 yards is a rare commodity in this league.

It's not his fault that the Miami defence couldn't stop anyone in December last year.

I don't find the yardage total compelling at all. It's nice, but that's about it. Romo only had 3,700 yards but everyone would trade the two QB seasons. I liked a few things from Tannehill. The biggest is cutting down on mistakes. Just the year before last, we were talking about his 3 turnover games. His run game is good. We are sorely lacking on explosive plays and this is acknowledged by his ypa, his ypc, his air yards per attempt, Joe Philbin, Ryan Tannehill and Lazor. It is not in dispute. This offense lacks explosive plays and unfairly or not, the offense is led by Tannehill.

Yeah, especially in those games against Baltimore and NE when we scored 30 and they scored 40, right?

People that blame the defense but never hold the offense accountable for scoring 16, 13, and 13 through December crunch time.

Who said anything about being embarrassed for him? While your shaking your head, try unraveling your panties too because I'm not dogging the guy.

I explicitly said I give him credit for not making boneheaded decisions amongst the high volume of attempts he had. The yardage is a function of attempts though - hence the YPA. I mean it could have been awful given how many times he was slanging out on the field with some of our other team issues around him.

Could those improve with a better line? Maybe.

Well how about a little context no? Since 4th quarter and trailing is when defenses tee up on you with the pass rush and Miami's crumbling offensive line for the last 2 years, it doesn't take rocket science to understand why he's 4th quarter numbers are not as good as the previous 3 quarters.

When you've watched Tannehill live in these situations you really don't see a QB who crumbles in these types of situations as the stats would suggest, but rather a TEAM who hasn't been able to put all the parts together to be successful in these instances.

I should hope that this offense IS lead by Tannehill otherwise we are wasting our time. without taking responsibility for his input into this away, it is ridiculous to place all the blame on Tannehill. There is a lot that goes into running this offense, or any offense for that matter. We end up wit these outrageous "discussions" of us against the world (you choose your side) and there is plenty or blame and or responsibility to go around. I have no issue with Tannehill needing to improve, that much is obvious. But when these posts that lay the stats at the feet of Tannehill and hold him responsible when there are coaches, players and schemes involved is insane. So I will accept these nonsensical observations when Tannehill actually is responsible for play calling, player performance and schemes on top of his personal progression as a QB.

He's certainly not perfect...he could improve some in a few of those areas, but his line/receivers sure as hell could too...Rating is a TEAM stat...for the 1 millionth time...some people seem to not understand, or intentionally ignore that. The QB touches the ball every play, yadda yadda yadda...wtf ever...everybody else has a job to do too, and when they collectively don't, it all falls on the QB...it's not accurate. Jordan Cameron singularly caused his "rating" to go down several points a week ago, and his completion percentage to drop a few %..."RT's" statistics bear that out.

I've seen the kid make throws we haven't seen around this team since Marino...and I see him steadily improving...I am fairly confident this year he'll improve even more, which if he does, puts him way up there on the QB standings. I FULLY believe he'll be somewhere between 4th and 7th at the end of the season.

To put it shortly, if Tannehill improves in all of the areas that people criticize him for (deep ball, pocket awareness, 4th quarter play, playoff appearences), he would be top 5 in the league, and after Brady, Manning and Brees retire, likely tied with Aaron Rodgers for number 1.

That's basically what a few Dolphins fans expect of Tannehill, they just don't seem to accept anything short of THE top rated QB.

Not saying it's wrong to think this way, I just prefer to think differently.

I prefer to sit back and enjoy watching a young QB developing steadily, rather than point out every little flaw.

This is exactly correct. It's why teams rushing four and getting great pressure were a problem. Insane rush with four, leaving 7 guys in coverage. ..but let's blame Tannehill for not pushing the ball further in those games, and struggling to find open guys.

Sorry, didn't mean to make excuses again.

So you give me "context" by adding generalized statements? If you can find the splits for that information then fine - we'll discuss them. Not every game situation where we're trailing involves defenses "teeing off". The coverage and defensive call is variable. I'm getting the impression you seem to think it's a jailbreak on every play.

I gave you context because you posted a stat with none. It's not a generalized statement when I've watched every single game and seen this first hand. Anyone who has watched this team the last 2 years has witnessed how the offensive line, already porous in general, has really struggled when pass rush picks up late in games when trailing. And btw, I never claimed it was every game situation and every play.

And it's really not just the offensive line, but like I said, the entire TEAM unable to put everything together to achieve success. That Baltimore game someone mentioned in a previous post, I remember distinctly Tannehill facing instant pressure as they tried to come back, get sacked, and receivers dropping crippling would-be first down balls.

RT is an anomaly in Miami...maybe even an anomaly in the NFL. Comes into the league, many pundits think he won't make it, most think he should sit a year or two (or three) while learning the NFL game. How many QBs today develop as steadily as he has to this point? From my foggy recollection, most either start really early and suck (and their career dies a slow death as a backup somewhere), or they're pretty good and improve to their ceiling in fairly quick order. Then there's the rare guy that comes in and lights it the F up (Marino is the all-time example, but there have been others). I don't watch all QBs so I don't know, but I'm happy with his progress.

Well looky here...You're starting Game 1 Rook! And JJ Watt is your Daddy today...a game in which he actually bounced back and played some "decent" football, but they lost the game handily, mainly due to the lead JJ gave them all by himself.

His first year, MANY people wanted him burned at the stake...that list shrinks every year...yes he has deficiencies, more than some, less than some, overall he's very solid, all that while being sacked more than anybody else and not missing a game.

Pointing out his flaws is fine (yes, he has some)...pointing out his strengths is fine (he has more strengths than flaws)...but to look at them in a vacuum is not. There is no such thing as a perfect QB, but that's what some seem to expect. He's growing with the team, and I'm damn glad to see it after the collection of turds we've marched out there since Marino. I'm a fan, and I want him to get better as much as those who constantly harp on the negatives...I just choose to focus more on the positive.

    Back on topic...phuck Bennett.

Again, more generalized statements about what you claim to see. I'm not giving the rest of the team a pass but my lord there is an excuse for every category Ryan hasn't shined in. His pocket mechanics have been erratic and would help alleviate some of the shortcoming of the O-line if he developed in that regard.

Regardless, here's a generalization for you: My uncle always told me, if you're making excuses you're losing.

You know what's an anomaly? Coming into the league with your college head coach as your OC and the entire Aggie playbook which you played under for 3-4 years.

The real learning curve for him was adjusting to the speed of the pro game, but he came to the Dolphins with a leg up on what most rookie QB's would.

I'm glad I don't get nervous when he drops back to pass. But I also don't see a guy who can throw the team on his shoulders consistently quite yet. Hopefully that changes this year.

You say "I claim to see" as if anyone else with a working set of eyes was not able to watch the same. All I said is factual and easily witnessed by people who watched those games. Multiple things broke down consistently for this team the last 2 years when attempting comebacks late, chief among them was protection. This is a FACT!

And how is attempting to give context to stats without it all the sudden "making excuses"? Are you going to claim stats tell 100% of the truth and there is no way to contextualize them with actual human evaluation?

Neither one of us are pro scouts or have ever coached an NFL game. The way we view them is often entirely subjective. That's why it helps to "include" stats in the conversation to try to get closer to an objective conclusion.

The fact that this thread about a Shehack DL's opinion of QB worth in the NFL has turned in to a childish argument about who wants to be Tannehills BFFNFL and who wants to bash him and you said and oh no I did not and you're stooped so shut up is annoying.
