Some nice play from Landry tonight, don't want to take away from any of that. Was puzzled by that highlight run, though, we he started trying to dance his way down the field and ended up losing potential yardage. He had the chance to cut left past #37 but instead hesitates and tries to cut back again and after that just ends up dancing. Chalk it up to a mental error? Still learning? Had he taken the quick cut left and kept moving forward into space I reckon he could have gained quite a bit more. VIDEO
Me too. But yes, seriously. Hesitating and choosing to go laterally or dance when you can keep going forward is generally not the best choice.
And he might have been able to have a lot more. The point is that while running with space he chose to slow down and try to cut and dance instead of keeping the forward motion. It's that choice I'm talking about, not the circumstances leading up to it.
Its a learned skill that he will get better at as he gets used to the speed of the game and things slow down for him in those kinds of situations...But have you yourself ever been in that situation? Its a lot easier to see where someone should have ran when you're looking through a cameras eye or in the stands and not the one with the ball at ground level running from large men wanting to smash you into the turf.
I think he'll watch the tape and realize he could've done better, and work on it...he's just that type of player, he may even obsess over it, and that would be a good thing, given his history.
This is why we have coaches and film study. They'll be sure to tell landry what he should have done. Although giving landry the credit for YAC on this play is silly, tannehill did the real work. Ball was perfect in stride.
A player who knows he has speed gets used to hitting that opening and going for the lane to the endzone. Juice isn't that guy.
There is nothing wrong with understanding your limitations either, I don't hold this as a knock on Landry, as I didn't think you were knocking him either, going backwards is another story, he should not be trying that either. I'm not worried about Landry, kid's a gamer, but that was a bit of a bone head move, no biggie, move on.
hes just a maniac when he gets the ball in his hands, so he actually looks for contact to hit someone..I have no problem with anything he does, like BK said he may not be confident about his speed so he tries to do anything possible to get yac.
