I think the Jets is 50/50 game at this point. I'll know more whether or not Buffalo decapitates us..

Man... You guys are more depressed about your team than us... Sheesh, were the team that hasn't made the playoffs in 15+ years, and the last time we did was the music city miracle. It's possible you guys are just coming off the a slow start. Then again, your time is running out. I really think you guys need to be 4-2 the first 6 weeks to have a good chance of making the playoffs. The last 10 games are brutal. At least you guys have a Franchise Qb.

I still am surprised you got rid of 2 of your top WRs. Is it Sunday yet?? I just want this game to be over with already -_-

Those last 10 aren't looking too scary lately...sure it's too early to tell and the first few weeks are usually wonkey across the league...but compared to two weeks ago, those 10 aren't nearly as daunting. Philly looks like a division III team...the 'boys lost Romo and Bryant for a while (lucky Cheatriots, as usual)...Indy's looking vulnerable, as are the Giants and Ravens...3 tough games in there (2 Cheatriots, 1 Bills)...not too worried about the rest, unless we're seeing the full measure of the 2015 Dolphins, in which case it'll be over BEFORE those 10 games.

And I don't understand why y'all are depressed. We have 2 Bills fans where I work, and they're the same...constantly worried. Those 15 years have notta to do with this year, and y'alls arrow is pointing up IMO. You just ran into a Marcia Brady that is playing at an uber level with a chip on his shoulder. And it seemed like Belicheat knew what your D was going to do before your players did. And in case you didn't know, Rex Ryan ALWAYS wins at Miami against this coaching staff...it's just what he does. I'll be shocked if he doesn't do at least a fake punt and succeeds at it.

    Sample size, man.

I understand and completely feel the disappointment, but we all must remember that we've only played two damn games. Nothing around the NFL is a definite at this point. Way too early.

Stark Contrast between you and that Bills fan that was here Monday with his smack talk. A Bills fan showing empathy to Fins fans? Now I know we're in deep doo-doo. Lol. Just kidding.

Should definitely be an interesting one Sunday. I don't know how they plan to get our OL to hold up. I guess our only chance is Tannehill finding his receivers and getting the ball out quick... and maybe our defense showing up for the first time this season... That's the only way I see the game being a close contest.

Neither outcome would surprise me. This is still the same mediocre team. They will beat some teams they shouldn't, lose to some teams they shouldn't, split the difference and go 8-8. Buckle in for another roller coaster ride of ups and downs this season ending in a log flume of liquid diarrhea.

Lmao, that's what those punk b****** were saying last year when we went into their house on Thursday night and whipped that *** without Albert and an overall inferior team on paper to the one we have today. Sure they have improved as well, but the loss of Orton hurts, dude was seriously under rated and I don't care what anyone thinks about that, I know it's true. Tyrod btw had a unbelievably terrible pick last game, and played pretty s**** overall. If we contain him, we win. Tannehill is light years ahead of Tyrod as a passer and it will be the difference in the game. I'm expecting Parker to get some more action too, he should be ready to roll and he's the future of this franchise.

Miami should be jazzed up for this game and there could be a little flatness by the Bills. I thought maybe the Bills would start flat in a game like this but after seeing what they did against NE, I think it more likely they start hot but then fall flat as the game wears on. Miami tends to be a second half team so that fits well.

The thing I'm most worried about really is having the horses to get the job done. There are a lot of injuries and hurts on the team right now. Albert's not going to play and that means Jerry Hughes faces Jason Fox. Meanwhile Dallas Thomas and Jamil Douglas will face Marcell Dareus and Kyle D. Williams, a very scary proposition. And you know Mario Williams will get the better of Ja'Wuan James a few times. Lamar Miller is banged up and I don't know how his ability to be a mismatch in the passing game will be affected. Jordan Cameron may not play at all.

The reason this is all a concern is NE got the job done against that defense by spreading them out very wide, including a lot of empty backfield sets, looking for Dion Lewis, Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman in mismatch situations. I believe we can find Rishard Matthews and Jarvis Landry in mismatch situations, but without Jordan Cameron and with Lamar Miller banged up, and with an overmatched OL, I don't think we can attack with the same equation. And if we start changing things to be more cluster oriented, I think that plays into the hands of Rex Ryan's schemes with his Bear fronts, overload blitzes and zone drops.

We will get SOMETHING done against that defense. We won't be able to do what NE did. The question will be whether the offense can contain Tyrod Taylor and LeSean McCoy. The latter is imperative. They will spread us out to run the football and that plays to Shady's strengths. They will also sneak the ball to the perimeter and force our corners to be physical. I know Grimes is very physical but he's also very small. McCain is very small without the benefit of being very physical. We will need to get this run defense thing figured out this week because shutting down Shady is the way you get to Tyrod, because he's not a sophisticated passer that can run a timing and accuracy based attack. Everything he did against NE was on the scramble drill. And he definitely feels phantom pressure, can be made to panic in the pocket.

What's pretty sad is this would be the perfect schedule to make the playoffs. Playing the AFC south and NFC east two of the worst 3 divisions in football with both of those divisions looking even worst than last year. And the Dolphins managed to get the Chargers a team they've beaten 3 times in a row and the Ravens who are finally looking vulnerable this year. Wasted opportunity this year.

Those are the games where Brady does the thing only he can do. It seems to me that Tannehill is slow to read defenses and slow to get the ball out in that kind of game-plan. He'd be great if he'd just pull the trigger faster, use more velocity and deliver the ball a bit more accurately to the outside. What do you think of his play in that arena? To me, it looks sloppy and slow but maybe it's fine, idk.

Any particularly insight you can give me on why Miami's been so bad against the run the last couple years and why this season they've started badly (at least in the first half of games)?

It is hard for me to get excited about this game. Losing to the Jaguars takes all the winds out of my sails.

Bills have enough talent to take advantage of the lapses that the Dolphins seem to be having a problem with. They are going to need a more solid consistent game from the defense.

I forgot lol. Felt like one though with all the trash they were talking pregame. Tannehill played great that day with a terrible oline, no reason to think that will change on Sunday because the oline/dline is pretty much the same match up. He's gonna get rid of it quickly just like Brady did last week and that plays right into his strength. Tyrod on the other hand, I think is gonna have a much more difficult time against a healthy, angry, and equally as talented dline. Wake needs to get going.

Washington beat the Rams, we're going to get another really good look at them tonight. With Romo injured, and NY and Philly struggling, Washington could end up stealing that division. I don't think it's that far fetched that Jacksonville can't make a run at their division, especially if Indy continues to struggle. I'm not making excuses for us, just sharing the idea that both of those teams aren't as bad as projected.

As to the run defense, this is just my perception but I think you may find stats to back it up, I think Miami's weaknesses this way have been varied. At certain points it appeared they were particularly weak to the running game in the second half, perhaps as part of a conditioning problem. Underlying the whole time, I have felt they have been weak for a while to running outside of the tackles. That could be a number of things, including a lack of linebacker speed, inability of the ends to contain the outsides (I do think both of our primary ends are marginal this way, Wake and Vernon), and perhaps some scheme-based disadvantages for the corners. Another reason could be the defensive line movement which at times can make it easier for run plays that feature offensive line movement to hit you quickly right in a soft spot, creating some bigger runs.

Keeping in mind I don't know if there's a statistical argument to be made that Miami's run defense has been significantly below average over these years.

You are absolutely correct about our DEs being marginal at setting the edge. I actually believe you are understating the case.

Talking about our record versus Rex Ryan, I think you have to get specific.

Joe Philbin is an underlying factor for the Dolphins offense as he's a former offensive coordinator and so he exerts himself onto the offensive structure to a degree. Similarly, Rex Ryan is a defensive guy who really has nothing to do with what the offense does. Ryan Tannehill has been the QB that whole time, it should be noted.

As such I think it's relevant to point out the following results against Ryan's defenses from 2012 to 2014:

    2012: 20 points, 381 yards, 79 plays, 23 1st Downs, -1.11 Expected Points (Off)
    2012: 23 points, 236 yards, 59 plays, 14 1st Downs, -7.89 Expected Points (Off)
    2013: 23 points, 453 yards, 80 plays, 25 1st Downs, +4.58 Expected Points (Off)
    2013: 7 points, 296 yards, 62 plays, 18 1st Downs, -8.43 Expected Points (Off)
    2014: 16 points, 291 yards, 55 plays, 16 1st Downs, -3.69 Expected Points (Off)
    2014: 24 points, 387 yards, 66 plays, 23 1st Downs, +6.05 Expected Points (Off)

So there you have it. The average is 18.8 points, 341 yards at 5.1 yards per play, 20 1st Downs, with -1.75 Expected Points from Offense.

    In other words, we've struggled.

As for the pure win-loss record it is 3-3 with 1-1 every season like clockwork. But I'm not sure it's entirely relevant looking how well Rex Ryan's offenses do against Kevin Coyle's defenses when Ryan is so relatively hands off with the offense. You're more likely to be successful looking at how Greg Roman's offenses have done against Coyle's defenses. I'm pretty sure we only have one data point for that, when the 49ers beat us 27-13 in 2012. We allowed 321 yards and 20 1st Downs on 55 plays.

    Just did a quick calculation..

Using Y/A, the Dolphins run defense was +0.61 std above the mean in 2012, +0.165 std above the mean in 2013, and -0.39 std below the mean in 2014. None significant.. but the trend is certainly bad.

Good and bad with that. Jordan Phillips is athletic for a big man so that's good, but Mitchell is even more athletic and can be better trusted to keep a cap on Tyrod Taylor's scrambling. Mitchell has shown a tendency to freelance but Phillips has shown a tendency to be flat out wrong, so I'm not sure which one helps us better against the run. On the other hand, Phillips has at times looked like a monster when bull rushing on pass plays, just straight up forklifting guys...and pass rush will be important against Tyrod, especially right up the middle because our outside guys will need to focus on containment.

What I would probably do is have Mosley play base downs and then Phillips work his way into passing situations.
