Landry was out of line in this instance. He insisted he was interfered with but replays clearly showed he tripped over Revis' feet and fell down. Nevertheless, I don't see Landry's behavior as an issue, although it will be if it continues. Players that use anger, frustration, passion, etc. to get motivated sometimes need to get put in place and hopefully this fine will help do that. Playing with energy is one thing. Playing so arrogantly you refuse to admit you screwed up, arguing with the refs and drawing penalties is quite another and no player should be given that right. What I'm more concerned about is how Revis put the clamps on Landry. I was told this offseason how great Landry is.
He plays with a ton of emotion, but he has to keep it under control, this was just frustration boiling over combined with his passion, hopefully he just uses it as a learning experience.
I dont think you were ever told "landrys so good, hes going to rip darelle revis up" Even the biggest landry fan knows he's not beating a HOF cb.
Get real...he's not a burner, and on the play where Revis got called for the PI, he had him beat...for somebody who seems to always want context, you sure ignored a bit there. Revis is arguably one of the top shutdown corners in the game...yet a "slow" guy beat him on several plays (not all were targets). He is great, albeit without great speed. Why would they put Revis on him otherwise? Edit: If he did it, he deserves the fine. What he DOESN'T deserve is fan ire...more so than anybody in this organization.
Revis' weakness is and always has been speed and vertical routes in general. Putting him on Landry (who is kind of slow) was a dream for a guy who's well past his physical prime but extremely intelligent and smart enough to know what's coming and read the body language of a pretty telling QB.
What CB doesn't "get beat?" Show me that CB. Please don't sit there and imply that Deion Sanders and Darrell Revis aren't giving up catches and yards. This is football. We both know that'll happen. Oh, and btw, Landry had 4 catches for 40 yards. That probably wasn't even all against Revis. And why don't we go ahead and deduct some yardage since Landry tripped and helped give up that INT? Oh and then he goes and gets a penalty on top of it? Great play, dog. Great play. Here's a better question. Why is Tannehill zooming in on a small-bodied WR in the red zone who's being covered by the best cover corner of this generation? Maybe we get an answer to that question sometime?
I actually think it's good that teams are focusing on eliminating Landry... time to unleash DeVante Parker. I think the TE's are going to be a bigger focus on the offense now as well, with Campbell being the HC.
I'll give you that much if we're talking about Derek Hagan. Rishard Matthews and the TEs on the other hand doesn't seem to have an issue. Greg Jennings is the only troublemaker and he simply needs to be removed in favor of Devante Parker.
Any sane coach would NEVER be mad at their player for showing too much passion, and Landry did nothing wrong here. I mean, sure, he cussed out a ref and that's never good...but if I recall correctly, he was one of the only guys on the field fighting for every inch and actually trying to win the ball game. So this is definitely a non-issue.
I think Landry's ire was the accumulation of the feet getting tangled and the poor call on the previous play which was about as text book of a rub play as there could be but still got called for a pick play.
You guys agree with $23,000 for cussing at a ref? Isn't the first time offence punch fine like $8,900? Again it's all about context, did he just yell WTF, when he didn't see a flag or call the ref a long string of colorful words?
It's the NFL. Things don't even have to make sense. You can get fined for wearing the wrong socks. You can step on a guy's arm on purpose and still play. Some players get black balled for domestic abuse. Sometimes it gets ignored. Everyone in the country hates the very best team. Cheating apparently totally pays off. It's really a great game when you think about it. If that's not a microcosm for the real world, I don't know what is.
I thought Revis tugged on his hip, similar to what happened on the earlier PI. You're right though, there wasn't a whole lot of contact. I think Landry may have been expressing frustration over the TD that was called back prior to that, a bogus call on Parker.
I'm good with Landry, if this stuff comes up again then he might need to sit down for a half or something to send a message but that Jest game was obviously frustrating for us and must have been 100 times as frustrating for the players. I can understand why he was upset about that play, its easy to analyze a play from the booth but he thought he got tripped up or taken out so he got on the ref. He should have known better but hey this stuff happens sometimes. Landry has been really good for this team and I'm still high on him so I don't get any fans trashing him, frankly thats just dumb fan stuff.
Nothing to see here, Landry is a vital piece moving forward. I'm sure he'll be ok. It's been a rough time in Miami lately and frustration is completely understandable. He's not the first person to yell profanities at a ref.
Landry is a good utility player. If he's our best WR we're screwed. People were hyped over his attitude, and workout regimen, and all that stuff. Which is good ... for him. But to believe that somehow spills over to teammates is not realistic. Reggie Bush had the same ethic. I want talent. And I feel we're feeding Landry way too much. Landry has had two fights with teammates and yelled at a ref now. Perfect for Campbell.
The Jets used the Seahawks strategy of pulling, tugging, the receivers all game long and daring the refs to throw a flag. The refs threw them when Miami was down a bunch but in crunch time they put the whistles away, as they normally do.
Agreed. He's Julian Edelman. That's not a knock on him, it's just realit y. Like you said if he's the #1 target on a consistent basis the offense is in trouble.
Here, here. It seems to me those with discontent about Landry's miscues would be better served targeting resentment at other receivers to step up and start making some plays, just so that Landry's room for error isn't so damn cushy, and stuffed to the hilt with goose feathers!!
I agree, we need to be going to him less. Featuring the slot receiver isn't the recipe for championships...he's just a joy to watch, ALWAYS gives his all, and balls out. I'll take 53 of 'em.
I absolutely hate this. If refs would call the Seachickens tight early in a game there defense would take a serious step back, but the refs seem to have those PI flags stapled in place.
Revis has made a career out of to much contact and tangling feet. Some just get away with a lot more than others.
Yup. Revis is smart enough to know that he can make as much contact with a player as he wants, as long as he's "playing the ball." AKA turning his head away from the defender he's covering. He has great awareness of where he and the defender are while looking in the backfield.
True, but I think the thing on that pass that has gotten lost is that Revis had the best chance to catch it even if Landry hadn't fallen down, since Revis was playing under he was obviously in the best position, so the best we could have hoped for was Landry knocking the INT away. The INT was the result of a bad pass from Tanne.
Landry is this teams everyman player of the year. He gives a ish and it shows and I love him for that above all and every one else can kiss my a**
this. his 100 yard INT return against us a few years ago had me livid
My response at the time... I guess the ref needed to see the rubber hanging out of Marshals a** in order to call that prison sex.
