Doesnt sound like a very promising day for Beck to start... Sounds nice for Henne... Not so nice for the o-line however... Then it all goes downhill it seems... that sounds ugly... sounds almost like our offense is still as incompetent as it was last year. how can you be a pro back/receiver and drop screens. that, to me is inexcusable.
From what I read so far this TC I think Henne seems to be doing the best out of the three quarterbacks which IMO is a good thing. What I don't like to hear is our offense can't be effective consistently and the defense dropping easy interceptions.
If the offense doesn't take a huge leap by September, it'll be a rough year with few points. Which would make it even more important for Ginn and Special Teams to score a few. That said, this is a new offensive system being installed, so after one week we shouldn't expect too much. Still, drops and stuff are ridiculous and not related, imo, to knowing a playbook. Let's hope this improves.
Why? It looks like he is pretty even if not slightly ahead of McCown, & Beck... I think if they bring in that coke-head, arena bowl QB it would be to take Beck's place as a back-up or 3rd string back-up. It would really serve notice to him that he needs to get better NOW, not just talk about getting better...
It would be an extremely embarrassing loss to John Beck to work that hard to prove Cameron was right and then get upset by a guy who hasn't been working for this job as long and is just a rookie.
I couldn't care less about the loser of a QB competition's feelings. Beck's been given every chance to do well. He might still win this is not over yet. Regardless his 'feelings' have got nothing to do with it... How do you think Huard felt after learning from Dan all those years then being ditched without any chance of even getting to compete for the starting J-O-B. Then going to Kansas City, playing great and still getting constantly dumped on by his coach and GM. Or Sage Rosenfels for that matter, Sage is probably a better QB right now than McCown and Beck ever will be. Henne at least shows more potential...
I agree. Sparano said it was tough on the QB's to grasp everything so quickly because they are throwing so much at them in a short period. However, he says, despite the mistakes, they have responded well to it. He says the "mental errors'' have gotten better as the days go by.
What I find interesting is that journalists are saying that Henne is out there playing against second and third stringers while Beck is playing against the first team. McCown is up against the second team. I wonder how Henne and McCown are fairing against the first team offense compared to Beck.
How can the words 'extremely embarassing' be about anything else but his feelings? No hard feelings. :d-day:
I was curious about that too. In the press conference Sporano said they each took turns with all 3 units. I just hope we don't end up signing that other guy this week. I can't wait until next weekend's game when I can see this stuff with my own two eyes.
If they did, why don't the bloggers point that out? They pointed it out in the latest blog when Beck was with the first team unit and he struggled. But when the other two struggle, they don't point out what (string) defense they are playing against. That's why their opinions seem so 'slanted' to everyone including me. Don't expect Carter to sign. Only way he signs (imo) is if a guy goes down.
I don't read so much into those blogs. The interviews with the coach are much more interesting to me. Each of those guys only has one pair of eyes and they run in and out to make their updates, so it's kind of a half-arsed job to begin with. I agree with what Joe Rose said earlier this week about how annoying that blogging ****e can be. They make every little play seem much bigger than it really is. They lack perspective I think, that said I definitely prefer Omar's stuff...
Does it really matter who the starter is???the only thing that matters is who plays best and gives us the best chance to win.
There is no way we should have a day off. We dont deserve a day off. You have to earn a day off and so far during a week in to camp we have not earned a day off. Are passing game is no good what so ever. We cant complet a pass at all. All three qb's were 25 out of 54. Are you kidding me atleats half of those passes were agianst 2nd and third team defense. That is not good at all. I hope we can get that turned around. Our o - line has holes in it. Our starting kicker can boot it out of the staduim but can hit a 43 yard field goal. Our defensive backs can catch a interception. It is like they think the footballs have a coat of smallpox on them. So why the heck are we having a day off agian?
That's how it should be, but I think to some posters it's more important to them that they are right, and more have been saying Beck is better, or for some reason they personally like him better, when comparing Beck to Henne, in the time since the draft.
I guess you never played football...especially in a new system. I have...and a day off after a week of non stop practices can make tons of difference.
Bro I play football for my school and we are in the middle of learning a new system. I know if we were struggling with learning the new system we might be able to take a day off from pratice but not from lifting or watching film. If we were struggleing why would you have a day off all together.
Ain't it the truth?.....always has been and always will be. For some, everyone sucks except "their guy". But, you know the old saying, I'm sure: the most popular guy on the team is the back up QB. Nonetheless, I think most really want whomever wins the competition to start. Hopefully, though that player will start because he's doing well; not just because he's not as bad as the others.
Yea I agree bro. I hope the most talented player wins the qb competition. Not the one everyone likes.
Sometimes it's best to take time off to recoup and get things back together. For example, if you reach a wall when lifting waits, I've always been one of those guys who will take a week off to ensure my body will recuperate and after that week, I'm pretty pumped and ready to go again. I think a day off will do more good than harm.
I dont think it has to be a full day off though. We are struggling really bad right now. We are not where we should be a week into camp. We should at least watch film. It is also never good when the coaching staff does not want to take a day off. But I also understand where you are coming from. I have always been a guy if I am struggling I will just keep going at it until I get it right. I also feel that some guys on the team do need a day off to reboot. But there are going to be some guys on the team that are not going to enjoy the day off and could lose some newly learned knowlage that is important.
People need days off or they go nuts! They may be struggling because they have not seen their loved ones in almost a week.Football is their job.Nothing more.
A day off is not going to hurt them. I would bet that the struggling players will not take the day off completely. I am pretty sure the QB's will at least review the playbook and try whatever they can on this "day off" to try and get a leg up on things. I were in any of thier shoes I would.
I am not saying that they should not take a day off. But to have a day off just like that without watching film or studing the playbook is kind of stupid. If we are struggling there is no reason for a full day off.
A day off is a day to relax. Studying the playbook and film is very taxing. Giving the mind time to rest is as important as, if not more than, giving the body time to relax.
I am jumpin in kinda late on this one but..........if they NEED a day off after 1 week of TRAINING CAMP, we will be in a world of hurt in about 7 more weeks. THEY NEED TO PRACTICE. At least the offense does.
Football is just their job? Are you kidding me. If football is just there job then we are in trouble this season. Football needs to be there life and every thing they do, eat , and drink espescially during trianing camp they need to get this system down and we need to get it down soon. As soon as we get it down and stop struggling then they can have a full day off.
