Have to put my 2c in on this whole thing. First of all, those wanting the outcome reversed, or forfeited or any of that crap just need to be slapped. It will NEVER happen and nor should it. Did the officials screw up? Hell yes. MANY times in that game. We can argue back and forth about blocks in the back, knees down, the Duke QB not getting in for his TD or whatever. Those refs had to be some of the most incompetent I have ever seen. Seriously, I mean on that last play there were players leaving the bench and throwing their helmets down (on the field) BEFORE the guy crossed the goal line. I mean, if the ref did not see that can we really expect them to get ANY call right?

Another thing I keep hearing from a friend and also on the radio, is that the only reason this is a story is that it is UM. I TOTALLY disagree. The reason it is a story, is there was NOTHING of note that happened last weekend in sports. NO huge upset, No other absolutely crazy plays, etc. It is a story because the media had NOTHING else to run with. Any other team (minus one of the media darlings - Bama, ND, etc) this is a story at least this weekend. To kind of prove my point, everyone will forget about it pretty quickly now that the playoff rankings are out and with some of the big games this weekend...

Oh and I don't care what anyone says, that was a fun end of a game. What a roller coaster of emotion!

Dear Hurricane Supporters:
What an incredible, exhilarating and hard fought victory on Saturday in Durham!
The eight-lateral, touchdown play which won the game will forever be cemented in college
football lore and in our storied history.
The fact that the ACC publicly acknowledged officiating errors on the play does not, in any way, take away our victory
or our incredible spirit. Some of you have emailed me this week, concerned about the wording of the ACC response as well as
the seemingly endless noise about The U not deserving the win. I want to share briefly with you what has transpired since Saturday night.

Immediately after the game, I notified the conference office of my concerns regarding
the officiating of our game. On Sunday morning, I had a conference call with
ACC Commissioner John Swofford and some of his staff, to discuss not only
the play in question, but my concerns regarding officiating throughout the game.
Commissioner Swofford informed me that the league had determined that the officiating crew would be suspended for two weeks for officiating errors on the final play and that the conference would review the entire game film.
Per ACC policy our football staff submitted the plays we believed were incorrectly
called as a matter of weekly protocol, and were notified by the league that multiple incorrect calls impacting our team occurred during the game, including a pass interference call on the final drive.
I spoke again with Commissioner Swofford on Monday, to voice my concern on
how this situation was being handled and the negative light it was creating for our institution.
Rest assured, beginning just hours after our victory, the University was forceful yet respectful in our approach.

Earlier today we sent a formal letter to the conference office,
summarizing and reiterating our concerns, and now consider
this matter closed. We have moved on to UVA and I am sure that all Canes will be ready to cheer on Coach Scott and our football players on Saturday!
Go Canes!

This won't be admitted publicly by the ACC and Mike Wilbon, Paul Finebaum, and all the other loud mouths won't say a word about it, but here you go anyway:

You get the feeling Mark Richt is about to become available. I know there are probably people around here that wouldn't like it, but I would definitely be in favor of hiring him. He's having a tough time right now at Georgia, but I think it just might be that he's been there for a long time and it's time for a fresh start. He's an excellent recruiter and has had a lot of success in his career in a tough conference. I don't know that he'd be my top choice, but he'd be among them.

Still alive in the Coastal. Gonna need to win out and for UNC to drop a game (aside from Miami). This isn't a good team, but I can't complain about Ws.

Yep, it's ridiculous. We lead the ACC with an average of almost 83 yards per game, and we were already up to 70 yards of penalties halfway through the 2nd quarter of this game.

I don't know how I feel about Strong. I think there is considerable upside and we know he can recruit the area. At the very least, we should be loaded with talent. I'm not sure that's good enough, though. I want someone who can actually coach (not saying Strong can't). Butch would still be my top choice and I really don't get why it seems like he's only the fall-back option. I like Richt, Schiano, and Mullen. Rich Rod is an interesting name, but I think I'd pass. Part of me is still holding out hope that things fall apart in Philly and Chip Kelly becomes an option (although I doubt they could pay him with potentially better paying jobs out there).

I honestly think Coach L is the best coaching hire in the city of Miami since Pat Riley. Spo, Leyland, and McKeon all were good hires, but the success Larranaga has had given the situation has been pretty remarkable. Hopefully their next coaching hire (football) is nearly as inspired as this one was.

I'm not sure how wise it is for him to tweet this, but whatever. I really don't know what I think about Cristobal. If it's true about Butch that's great news. Barry Jackson's sources have said otherwise, though.

I want Butch - he's one hell of a coach. He's dealt with recruiting in Miami before, he knows how cheap the univerity is and he's seen the facilities, so no surprises there. I also think he wont demand an out of control salary.

Saying that - I do not want Schiano or Charlie Strong -

I'd be ok with Chud but Mario scares me. He did get the shaft at FIU, but I dont see other schools banging down his door to get him.

A lot of these guys I really don't know how I feel about them. I think Schiano is a good coach, and did a pretty good job recruiting down here when he was at Rutgers. He's not a sexy name, but I think he'd probably be a solid hire. Strong would probably bring in top recruiting classes every year, but can he coach? I think he was put in a real tough spot at Texas with the cupboard left pretty bare by Mack Brown. That team really doesn't have much talent on it. I get what you're saying about Cristobal, but he might be more valuable to Miami than anywhere else. He's still one of the best recruiters in the country and I thought he did a good job at FIU. Is he ready to lead a big time program? I can't answer that question.

I agree with you about Butch, though. Unless someone unexpected becomes available, I just don't see why he wouldn't be the top choice. He's already proven he can do it here, and clearly wants the job. He also has full support from the former players. I know there were some questions about the situation at UNC, but he was never implicated.

Do not believe we could go wrong with Butch or Mario, to me Golden could not adjust to the athletes the U lands, both those coaches know what they are likely to have to work with so it is a win win either way.

Chud is interesting, massively unproven at the college level, imo the program simply is not ready to take on that challenge.

I'm not the biggest Cristobal fan, but how do you know he's an awful coach? Have you ever been around him? Do you know anyone that has? If not, really the only thing you have to go off of is his time at FIU.

I know that he's done absolutely nothing that makes him a qualified candidate for this job, or really any division 1 head coaching position. And save me any talk about getting the shaft at fiu... He was 3-9 in his final season. Maybe we should hire Ron Turner since he's doing the same exact thing at FIU that Cristobal did... Cristobal isn't even a good position coach. Alabama fans can't wait to get rid of him. He's obviouly not a good coach if he can't even coach the position he used to play properly... It's not exactly hard to recruit kids to play for Nick Saban. Seriously that's his claim to fame?

That's fine, but that doesn't mean he's "an awful coach". He's far down the list of candidates for me, but I'm not as down on him as you are. He may have gone 3-9 in his last year at FIU, but he also won 8 games there the year before, and 7 the year before that taking them to their only 2 bowl game appearances in school history. At FIU, that's impressive.

As for the claim that he's a bad positions coach, I don't believe that. They don't hire you to the best program in the country because you're a bad coach. But being a good OL coach and being a good HC take VERY different skill-sets. Art Kehoe has been one of the best OL coaches there is, but no one is going to hire him to be a HC any time soon.

So Miami just beat the breaks off Utah, who will most likely be a tournament team. I don't think I've ever seen a Canes team this good. They're legitimately 9-10 deep.

Art Kehoe hasn't been a good OL coach for ages. Cristobal was hired to recruit South Florida. Alabama's line has been unimpressive since he took over. Cristobal has no business being a head coach until he proves he can coach. So far he hasn't. He's a recruiter. Nothing more.

Again, proving he can coach the offensive line means very little to me. There is a common misconception that a good position coach makes a good coordinator, and a good coordinator makes a good HC. That's not always the case. The skill set required to succeed at each spot is very different.

The Shane Larkin/Kenny Kadji/Durand Scott team was really good. That team should have been a 1 seed in the tournament. If this team is better than that, then that's pretty damn fantastic. The one thing this team does have on that one was the cohesion of playing together for multiple years.

I tend to agree - I wouldnt mind Mario as an asst coach - because he can recruit. One of my friends who's a notable UM athletic Alum, told me he's heard Butch is making calls and trying to assemble a staff already....Dont know if that means he's the choice or if he's trying to test the waters just in case.

True, but he knows what he is getting into. He wants this job very badly from what I've read and that is something we need in a coach right now.
