Lock him up! We can't let talented guys like him leave. And let's bring someone in who will actually utilize his skill sets and give him the touches to make an impact on the game!

Miller leads the league in yards after contact. He's averaging 5.1 YPC. He's become good catching passes out of the backfield. He's become a good blocker. He's only 24 and still has a ton of tread on his tires since he's been criminally underutilized. He's the best player we have on offense and a guy we can build a really good offense around going forward.

    Sign. This. Man!

Took the words out of my mouth brotha... Definitely have to lock him up, he's our best offensive player IMO. And like you said, if we get a coach in here who knows how to get the most out of his players - Miller is going to be a monster

Have to re-sign him and find a coach and OC that will utilize his talents.

I'm guessing that Lamar sees the talent on this team, and where it can go. Given the right people are put in charge to head things in the right direction, I'm glad he wants to stay. Although, maybe I'm biased because he played for the :theu: . :wink2:

  10. of course he wants to stay. he is living easy. the only one they play less is matt moore.

His metrics last season were insane too. I did a post about it in Sick's thread (I think it was titled, "Is Lamar Miller the key to our season?") from before the season. Th cliff note version is, more rushes that went for 4 yards than any other back. More rushes that went for 5+ yards than any other back. 70+% conversion on 3rd and 3. 70% conversion on 3rd and 1. He's not a "bell cow" back in the mold of AP, Gurley, Beast Mode, etc... But he's unbelievably efficient. I fully expect him to be a Dallas Cowboy next season.

He's so good, and there are still some people who think he's "just another guy".

I'd be shocked if we didn't re-sign him. And very, very pissed.

I don't know why this would even be a question for the front office unless he's demanding to be paid like Peterson or something like that. We should already be talking about a long term deal, it should be an offseason priority.

Yeah, they need to start rewarding the guys we draft and show growth with second contracts. It would have been nice if they gave one to Odrick, but...

Thank God, we needed some good news considering we basically started the 2016 season 3 days ago. Great pick by Ireland.

I don't really read where he said he wanted to stay. He said it would be great. he also said number of carries will play in to his decision whether to re-sign with the Dolphins or play elsewhere next year.

Whose job is it to tell the head coach the guy is ready to play??? Seems like Campbell should have asked him.

Regardless I still don't see why Williams is the number 2 guy. He scares me.

Glad to see people finally coming around on Miller. I've been a fan since season one.

He basically said he would love to finish his career in Miami. He then went on about the multitude of factors that will inevitably play into his decision, but just the fact he claims he wants to stay put is a little encouraging to me at least. Especially after neglecting him in the second half after having the first half he had on Monday, tools.

Either way the Dolphins should be working something out with him now. If they don't see him worthy (don't see his talent) we (all the fans) are in serious trouble.

Agree, Ajayi and Miller are strengths of this team, don't want to mess with that. Same reason I want to see Shelby/OV signed as well.

We're 5-0 in games where Miller gets 13+ carries, and without a single win when he gets 12 or less. And folks may be getting sick of me saying that, but I'll keep on preaching it until we put a saddle on this stud horse and ride him into the post-season. He is the best player on our offense by a wide margin and he has been for years now....just get him the damn ball!

I think he's a liability in run defense and would be more efficient as a 3rd down pass rusher.

Resign Miller... and run him and Tannehill until their legs fall off. 1st Q against the Giants is the playbook to use for an entire game.
Running with Tannehill opens up both Miller and some passing... and Tannehill is pretty good at it too.

If Shelby learns a spin move he will be very good. Right now he is all bull rush. I'd like to see Ajayi and Miller both on the field at the same time. Williams can stay on the bench.

It disappoints me that Miller said he felt good in the first quarter (and you could tell by his runs) and then he is put on the shelf. Campbell has got to ask someone is he good to go?

I'm surprised at the amount of people that want to throw money at such a fungible position. IMO, any team that is willing to spend at RB is silly. The history of contracts at that position is horrid for obvious reasons - players age terribly there. Ivory, Forsett, Rawls, Lewis, Williams etc. are all guys that can give you 85% of Miller's (a late round pick himself) production, if not more, at a fraction of the price.

From a roster construction perspective, it just makes no sense to allocate finite resources to that position in lieu of more pressing, and more difficult to fix issues throughout the roster.

Has Belichick ever made a multi-year commitment at RB? Isn't he the poster boy for not paying that position?

Just off the top of my head: Ridley, Vereen, Blount, Woodhead, BJGE, Maroney. I'm sure there's a few more in there that I'm missing.

A no-brainer to resign Miller as long as he stays healthy and the price is right.

Yes. He paid Dillon in 2005, cut him before the 2007 season and hasn't invested cash into the position in the decade since.

    Kind of proves my point.

So you're going to ignore the countless examples of guys in other cities that were literally picked up off the street (or for late picks) and became productive NFL backs? Again, Williams, Ivory, Rawls, Freeman, Murray etc.?

The lack of ability in the Dolphins FO to identify talent does not somehow validate the logic that paying Lamar is the correct decision from a roster construction standpoint. If we're ever going to turn this thing around, at some point you have to have confidence that the people in these roles are going to end up doing their jobs.

And the ground game isn't back. Running the football is not how you win. You're going to throw the 13-0 Carolina Panthers in my face, and I'm going to point to their QB playing at an MVP-level.

Exactly. That's the point. A 4th rounder under team control for four years is a hell of a lot cheaper than a multi-year commitment to a FA veteran.
