Looking over the standings, I just realized that after last week's results, we're now 3-8 vs teams with a losing record this year. There are a lot of times you can look the other way with a poor record vs winning teams.....but that just takes the cake.
It's just been an awful year from every angle. Just one of those seasons where everything that could go wrong, did. Thank God it's over in less than a week.
For me the worst stat is not making the playoffs yet again. I don't care how bad our team is in any given year, but to make the playoffs only once in the last 14 years is just pathetic. And of course the real crown of a sad stat is that we once again haven't won a Super Bowl since January 1974 (over 40 years!!).
We aren't alone in not winning the Super Bowl, or even in getting there. The AFC has been totally dominated by a handful of teams for years. In the last 20 seasons, New England, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Indy and Denver have been in 18 of them. Go back to the last time we were there in 84, and those teams plus Buffalo have been in 25/30. The NFC has had far greater parity/variety.
True, but I look at it all in shades of grey. A 9-7 team that just misses the playoffs is a lot better than a 2-14 club. We've not had a good team in a long time, but we've had several who had the playoffs in their sights only to fall on their face at the very end, like last year. Frustrating as that is, its better than what we had this year.
Only thing I'll say to that is 2-14 in many years would've given us a franchise QB. 2-14 instead of 9-7 in 1997 gives us Peyton Manning, so shades of grey don't always get whiter with a better record.
To me the defense was just soooooo terrible...saw some hope from the offense When you lose to the worst offenses in the league and let Charlie Whitehurst beat you..while making you look clueless If the Dolphins 2015 season was on life support, I'd pull the plug to charge my phone
How about this one. If it weren't for Landry's miracle ret vs WAS & Sanchez being Sanchez, we would have gone 0 for 10 against the NFL's East.
I saw it in week 1. Washington's TE Reed was ripping us, we couldn't get off the field on 3rd and long. It was the first time in years that I can remember our defense being bad (well, like real bad). I was shell shocked, and then it just kept getting worse
That's honestly kind of been our problem. 8-8 is football fan purgatory. Your almost there, but your not really, but where do you go from there? 5-11 with one of the worst defenses in the league, it's clear where we go from here. But again, we're the dolphins so I'm sure we're about to hire Todd haley as HC
Problem is our offense is one of the worse too. I'm actually not so sure our offense isn't worse than our defense. 17 pts is a monumental task for this nearly talentless squad.
bit like 09, even worse, what is more discouraging is, none of the young Defensive players really developed outside of J Phillips Bad bad yr all around
The offense has been putrid. I hate to sound like a broken record, but the oline has been the consistent problem. For the offense to function well, we need a halfway competent oline.
I was too young to appreciate it. At least I got to see some good times and heartbreaks with many big games. There are some here that have only known losing, mediocrity, bad coaching, etc. I feel bad for them.
More disapointing, because the talent is better and expectations were higher. But the offenses in those years were just helpless. This year, I always had at least the hope that we'd do well in a given week given the talent, but the OL and the play calling conspired against us most weeks. Still, the feeling of horribleness that came with 04 and 07 hasn't been there for me. This year is unique.
That's me too... I REALLY thought we would start this season like 5-0. I know that was hopeful to say the least but I thought we were at least decent. Smoke and mirrors I guess.
3-7 against losing records; wins vs TEN, PHI, and BAL - Losses vs JAC, BUF, BUF, DAL, NYG, SD, and IND 2-4 against winning records (presuming loss Sunday) wins vs WAS and HOU - Losses vs NE, NE, NYJ, and NYJ
My perspective is different. The best thing possible happened. They sucked bad enough for Ross to finally fire Philbin. This team has talent, they dont have a coach to lead them. Now we find out about Hickey who has not drafted bad and Tannenbaum. if they dont produce a solid HC then they need to go as well. Its all about finding the right HC now. It should of been two years ago but better late than never I guess. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
Nothing makes me more angry than the Jacksonville game. I drove from CLT NC, stayed in a hotel, bought tickets, good tickets...sat with idiot fairweather "don't know football" jags fans....and had to sit through the alcohol draining sun of a 4pm game, as we made Blake Bortles look like a superstar, and Brent Grimes dropped a INT to end the first half, Tannehill looked like Jesus, yet we still lost. That was a god awful loss. I hated my life after it. I couldnt sleep in my hotel that night, then had to drive 7 hours home to NC the next day. It was embarrassing. I should have known this ****ty team was what was ahead of me this season. Let's start again eh? Another offseason with a new coach. A "new hope". A new "culture". Whatever. Same ****. We suck. 8-8 boring, mediocre team. We are cursed. I am cursed. **** this team.
disappointment is greater this year because of expectations. i drank the cool aid too and thaught we would be at least 10-6. at least we are getting a new coach out of this. with an influx onf new players we should be better next year, but i for one wont be hyped up again. not falling for that again
Am I alone in thinking ENOUGH with the BIG name FA splashes every year! can we just build a TEAM! and use that 100M to get maybe 2-3 good players instead of just 1?
I thought the offense was way worse then the defense. The offense scored their 1 TD a game and it was over. How many times did the defense give the offense great field position only for the offense to do nothing with it? It happened way too often.
please explain this thought process. I really want to understand it. How is getting to the playoffs good enough for you or anyone else on this forum? The object is to win the superbowl. There is no trophy or award for second place. Second place in the NFL is failure. Period, there is no runner up I could see maybe thinking the team was decent if they were one of a handful (top 5) each year, but we are not ------not even close and havent been with the exception of maybe 2 or 3 times since '74 ---- only to fall back into mediocre football status 40+ ****ing years - 40+ when is enough - enough?
Because if you're good enough to get there, you have some sort of chance. You have 0 chance without making the playoffs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You and I clearly have a different way of thinking about things, as evidenced by several posts this week. I am not a person who thinks in those terms about anything, whatsoever. There are varying degrees of success in both life and sports. The team that makes it to the Super Bowl but is defeated is not a loser. They in most cases had one of the best seasons in team history. There are 32 teams in the league, and 16 in each conference. By that measure, looking long term, we should expect the team to win the Super Bowl once every 30 years or so, make it there once every 16, make an AFC title game once every eight, and win a division title (on average, long term) once every four. Our club has fallen way short on most of those lately, but we had a stretch from 1989-2003 where we didn't have a single losing season, and made the playoffs most of the time. What I want is for the team to build a coaching staff and roster to become one of the clubs that for a reasonable window, is one of the better teams in the AFC and contends to do well in the playoffs. We've been there before, and we'll get back. Demanding anything more than that is as silly and unrealistic.
It's not my expectations that determine weather they field a team that is good enough or not it is weather I buy tickets and merchandise that does. Which i am not and Haven't since Marino. This is a business for Ross. Successful business' build up which leads to popularity and sales thereby making money. If you really want to get Ross outta here stop buying tickets, merchandise and the $10 hotdogs and $12 beer at the games. Enough of us do that and he will sell the team. Its the blind homerism that contributes to continued degradation of what once the winningest team in sports history. Why give a **** if your still rolling in the cash? Hell rather then improve the product on the field they built up the stadium - just so you can come and be comfortable sitting at a table with chairs..........
I guess when it gets to be a few more years , and is is looking like it is, you will also be 46 and thinking WTF has happened? Am I dreaming? Has my team really **** the bed for almost 15 years straight? I dont care about any other team except this one. And I am just dog tired of being losers. We deserve more. These damn people think if they go out and drop 220 million on two players and create a little buzz and fix up the stadium a little that it will somehow appease a lot of us. Not me Super-bowl or bust
I can't put myself into anyone else's shoes, or try to pretend that I know how they think or really understand them. However, I'm a fan of only three sports, the NFL (Fins), MLB (Cubs) and NCAA Football (WVU). None of my teams have ever won a title in my lifetime, and my Cubs have literally been a punchline since long before I was born. However, they've turned themselves around to the point that they're the favorite to win the World Series next season, and look to be a powerhouse for years to come. This despite playing in the same division as MLB's version of the Patriots, the St Louis Cardinals. If they can do it, I have faith that the Dolphins can as well. We just need to get the right people in place (ownership, front office and coaching) to make it happen.
If you haven't bought tickets/merch since Marino because you want the ownership to improve the team, then WADR, your plan has obviously failed as your protest has done nothing to improve the overall level of play.
I also think that in the NFL, the team is actually as likely to skip town due to poor sales as to be sold and stay. That kind of protest just doesn't work anymore. Empty seats and poor sales are seen mostly as a sign the market can't support the franchise.
I dunno, I just think its kind of silly to assume the owner isn't trying to win. I mean he's motivated to put a winning product on the field whether we pay money or not. He doesn't need extra motivation, he just as to get the right people in place. Now, if a fan(s) hated the coach or GM or whatever and the owner refused to do anything about it for too long, then I get banding together and making a statement with their wallets, but this protest, I don't get the effectiveness.
Yeah, the Dolphins had the easiest schedule in the NFL. And look at the teams with winning records Miami played. Houston and Washington both benefitted from playing in the worst divisions in the NFL. The Jets are the other, who also had a fairly easy schedule. Though there is no denying they had a much better defense, more consistent passing game, and better coached. This schedule was easier than the 2008 schedule. Way to blow it. Lots of issues need to be fixed.
