Which is why I'm proposing we take a LT in round 1 as well as a competent veteran swing tackle (though I'll admit I don't even know how the FA market for tackles are this offseason). If Albert goes down we have two options there. Even if both Albert and James go down we'll have some flexibility. Douglas will keep working as the backup center and give us some flexibility there as well.

Now, obviously if 3/5 of our starters are out, that means trouble for any team, but I like our chances if we have 5 solid starters and 2 capable backups at key positions. Heck I'd explore bringing in another veteran guard to compete for one of the spots as well depending on who's available and their price.

We don't need impact players at impact positions?! Who are these impact players we have?

Look, year after year we've been taking half measures with regards to the OL. Truth is we've got an average at best QB when it comes to pocket presence, but when given time, he has shown to be very good. I think it's time to put an end to the whole OL issue and just make it a priority this season. We'll probably be at a good enough draft position to take a "franchise LT". With Albert missing a significant amount of games every season for the past couple of seasons, I see a pretty big reason to take a LT and groom him for the future all while solidifying the LG spot.

Yes sir. Had miami picked 5th there's a really good chance we could've gotten the top qb or 2nd best qb because the top 4 teams all have qbs with the exception of Cle. if we could get a 2nd for thill and take Goff or Lynch and use that cap space on the oline we would've been in much better shape moving forward. Big difference between 5th and 8th. His point is on spot tho because it shows how pathetic this franchise has become.

Which is why I keep saying time and time again, when posters are talking about Tannehill, or this quarterback or that quarterback or whoever, the MOST important person on the team is the head coach.

If you're winning, you're drafting at the bottom and in this day and age of football, when players care more about their next big payday and not the dynasty of a football team, coaches MUST be able to draft and coach replacements for those impact players that go to other teams in free agency.

Before we even THINK about players to draft, we had better get the "first pick" in the head coaching "draft".

I'm still hoping for Payton as HC and Schwartz as DC.

We're pretty much set with receivers. Re-sign Miller and if Ajayi continues to develop as I expect he will, we're good at RB. Personally I think we're good at the TE position. Defensively, the impact players I see we need to focus on, as stated earlier are corner/safety and ILB.

This is why I said that with what our draft needs are, I think we're sitting well.

    LMAO!!!!

Do you really think with the offensive line we had this season that any other quarterback would have made a difference?

Tell you what, why don't we draft/sign 53 quarterbacks. mkay?

I don't disagree with any of that. I like our receivers and rbs compared to the rest of the team. Need a shutdown cb, good safety and a minimum of a mlb and preferably an olb. We could use a DE as well with Wake aging and Vernon being allowed to walk (I hope)

Couldn't fathom wasting a 1st rounder on a QB this year regardless of where we were slotted. So many other needs long before that even comes up for debate.

now sitting @#8, have to see where FA shakes out to even finalize what our remaining need areas are, and what BPA is or Biggest need is, come draft day

We have plenty of needs, no doubt. But if given a chance to take a legit top QB, you do it unless you already have a relatively young, stud QB. Make any excuse you want for thill. He certainly hasn't had perfect circumstances but it's hard to say thill is a stud QB worthy of snubbing your nose at a good qb prospect with a straight face.

Seeing a lot of "too many needs!" type posts here arguing against QB.

If we have so many needs and holes, wouldn't that mean we will not really compete heavily for a playoff spot next year? Sounds like the perfect time to draft a QB to me. Let Tanne play next year with the rook on the bench.

Not saying that will or should be the plan, but really if you are not sold on Tanne, it is the most logical choice.

Gotta take into consideration the talent available at QB in the draft, especially where we pick. If we're talking about a guy hyped like Peyton or Luck, yeah I'd take him in our situation, but Goff? Maybe better to add more playmakers at other positions and give Tanne that one more year he'll have anyway to prove he's the future (or not).

Sorry but you really can't. The two are completely connected to one another. The way you read a defense pre-snap is even impacted by the way your offensive line has blocked for you as the game progresses. There is no way for any human being to completely separate the two.

Better phrased...you can see a QB is terrible behind a good line but you will never see a QB is great (even if he is) behind a turnstile.

You can still judge a QB behind a crud oline. I've never docked Thill in regards to things he can't control. We ve had 4 full seasons to evaluate him. There's plenty of plays where he had opportunities to showcase his skills and intelligence. He hasn't done enough for me to pass on a potential good QB. He's not a bad QB but he's not leading this team anywhere regardless of the oline without substantial growth that I don't expect after 4 seasons. He no longer can reasonably be given passes due to rawness, age, experience, etc.

Yeah, fixed that for you. :)

For the record, I'd like to see us get a CB in the first round and use the second/third rounders to build up the OL. At best, we get another year out of Albert at LT, but even then I expect him to miss several games with injuries. Really early though and we have to see how things shake out in free agency first.

Where was his mind on thosr plays? I've played QB and trust me when I say it doesn't mean **** if you block extremely well for me on a play if you jist got my face smashed into the ground the play before. Repeated pressure gets yo your mind. Even Brady. He wasn't pressured on every play yesterday but even when he had time, he looked like a turd at QB.

-In the first place, there's not a really good quarterback worth wasting a 1st round pick on.
-Secondly, quarterback isn't an issue, our issues were the coaching staff and offensive line.
-Thirdly, one of the best all time quarterbacks was running for his life yesterday, which shows you don't know what you're talking about. If a quarterback doesn't have a solid offensive line, it doesn't matter how good he is.

Given our recent history of drafting in the Top 10, does it really make ANY difference whether it's #6 or #8 overall?

    Our recent Top 10 picks:

    2005 Ronnie Brown #2 overall
    2007 Ted Ginn #9 overall
    2008 Jake Long #1 overall
    2012 Ryan Tannehill #8 overall
    2013 Dion Jordan #3 overall

You mustn't be watching a lot of Green Bay games this year... or last night for that matter?

If you look at KC (Smith) and Wilson (SEA) - you'll note they have 2 things in common....above average running attacks, and good borderline great defenses (I believe SEA finished #1 in total Defense again this year).

Sure they make plays (so did Tannehill at times) - and yeah their teams have better records...but is that REALLY only because of the QB or just an overall more solid roster?

Based on his play and his play alone. There's a reason nobody outside of a few dolphins fans think thill is avg at best. Your critical thinking is crystal clear to most on this board. My agenda is the Dolphins being a winning franchise.

Our problems run deeper than just a coaching staff and the oline. There's plenty of qbs who could do more for his team despite the oline. I'm sorry you don't know any better.

60min of pride. That's all it was ..... and vs. a squad as riddled by injuries as the Dolphins. I mean hell they even put Garrapolo in with 2mins left. When was the last time you saw the Pats waive the white flag so easily like that.

We carried literally no momentum into the end of the season and I'll leave it to those struggling with short term memory problems to suddenly sweep everything that's happened under the rug and "adjust" based on this singular game.

Show me pride when the season actually means something and playoffs are still achievable.

I don't see us using a high pick on a QB next year. That said, I'm not particularly excited that Tannehill threw for 4,000 yards two seasons in a row, or even he's third (or whatever he is) in most yardage in the first four years of a career in the entire history of the NFL.

I checked NFL.com. RT was 9th in yardage in the league in 2015, 11th in 2014, 10th in 2013, and 20th in 2012. Throwing for 4,000 yards is just not a particularly big deal in the NFL these days. It's a reflection of just how crappy this team has been at quarterback, and how quickly we've switched QBs, that no one has thrown for 4,000 two years running since Marino.

(Of course RT ranked much lower than 9-11 in the league in TDs passes, average yards per pass, etc.)

He's shown that he was good enough to start from the beginning, and he's been incredibly durable, never getting seriously injured despite getting sacked so much. That ain't nothing! Very few QBs start from the get-go, very few QBs who do avoid getting hurt, and until the past ten years or so QBs threw less. Which is why he's so high on the all-time yardage list for QBs in their first four years despite never ranking higher than #9 in the league in yardage in any particular year.

I loved watching him do his thing against the Pats on Sunday. We'll see. But I don't think RT's future is quite as bright as the guy who started this thread does.

You could just as easily name a couple (that would be possible) instead of downgrading the one we have. After you do, you will hear many reasons why the guys named would not do any better. Knowing 'better' fails to look at ANY stats on the OL and the defense. Maybe you can show a few (or one) positive stat regarding the Dolphins OL. The defense was terrible, it goes on and on.
You are making a problem that may not be the problem at all. Give the guy a chance with at least a partially functioning OL. Then run him out of town after that proves he can not do it.
Take away Brady's OL and you see the same problems... hall of famer or not. Don't run the ball well or enough, you see the same problems. Defense can't stop an 'average' offense and 'QB'... you see the same team problems.

Their last game was a reflection of our entire season.

Clearly. That's why the QB position makes the big bucks and touches the ball on you know, EVERY single down on offense (along with playing chess with a defense) ..... because they're as interchangeable and on equal footing as every other position right?

The drum of "it's a team sport" still beats. It's the latest in the batch of adjustments used to give Tannehill more time in his evaluation. But the fact is, the QB position is polarizing because of it's over-arching performance to a franchise's success.

Wins and performances like yesterday's are what bother me most. It's always when there is nothing at stake for the franchise.

    I stopped buying into them.

I've seen a similar phenomena from other traders in the stock market. Most of them are trying to buy a "breakout" to new highs, but most often get sucked into a poor trade in an equity that is actually range-bound ..... inevitably it reverts back to the mean(average). Something that Tannehill has almost always done.

You are absolutely correct; the QB does make the big bucks because he touches the ball every time and he is expected to make those plays however comma dramatical pause...

Our O-line has sucked the past few years, there's NO argument there at all. Whether we agree on Tannehill or not doesn't take away from our agreement at how dismal the line has been. This is where I say Tannehill ISN'T the problem...

Tannehill has had a LOW number of attempted passes over 20 yards. Passing plays such as those take TIME and he's not had the time.

Secondly, freaking Lazor kept calling passing play after passing play after passing play, resulting in Tannehill being the most sacked QB in the league. Why you would call so many flipping passing plays when you know how bad your O-line is just astounds me!

Thirdly, with all of the sacks Tannehill's taken, the inability to actually have an opportunity to throw the deep ball due to the O-line sucking, the fact that he was able to throw for 4000 yards with short passes is actually a testament to his ability to deliver the ball!

Had we a line that could actually block, a true commitment to the running game, control the ball and sustain a time consuming drive and give the defense a breather on the sideline, we actually would have won more games than we did, but alas...

A ****ty line, constant passing plays, Tannehill getting dirtier than a kid playing in a puddle of mud...and he STILL threw for 4000 yards?

    Yea, it was ALL Tannehill!

Yeah... it would have been a good bet. Although I have learned many years ago not to bet on OR against the Dolphins at any point in the season. Now if the game has little or no meaning... we are a tuff team to play. Haha. Place your bets.

But, like someone else said... always a pleasure to see Brady suffering. Giant Smile.
