4, count em, 4 inexperienced OCs we've hired as HCs in a row. The more things change with this team, the more they stay the same.

I will admit, I have no idea what type of head coach he will be if they hire him. I am just frustrated they seemed to ignore head coaching candidates who I would personally select over Gase.

Those include, Jackson, Marrone, Shanahan, and Coughlin. Like you, I feel if they are going to go with a young heading coaching candidate, they should just stick with Campbell. At least he has 12 games as an NFL head coach and that was will Philbin's crappy coaching staff. Perhaps with a much better coaching staff, he would be a solid NFL head coach.

As I stated earlier, my problem isn't Gase. Because I really don't know enough about if to know if he is qualified to be an NFL head coach.

My issue is with Ross and Tannebaum. Because I have zero confidence they know what they are doing when it comes to hiring a solid head coach for this team.

There has not been a single hire Ross has made on the football side which has worked out. So until this team turns it around and actually has a winning season, I will continue to question any football move this clueless owner makes.

As a long time fan, the best move Ross could make IMO is to sell the team and get out of the NFL altogether. As the owner of this team, he has taken a once proud organization and turned it into one of the worst organizations in the league is seven short years.

this is a very interesting concept to me ......the part about imposing your will

Maybe that is why they are keeping Campbell. Which if it is I have mixed feelings about. First if they have doubts about Gace doing it on his own why hire him? Or are they really after grooming Campbell.........................??????

I think that if they wanted to groom Campbell then they would have gone with an experienced HC. Now, they are going to let T groom Gase and Campbell.

Don't like the hire, but when was the last one I did. At this point I am so numb to our "extensive" head coaching searches. Why must being a fan for this team always feel like a punch in the gut and a kick in the crotch all at the same time?

IIRC correctly, a lot of people liked the Philbin hire, nearly everyone liked the Parcells/Sparano/Ireland hire, many people liked the Cam Cameron hire and everyone LOVED the Saban hire. This is really the first hire that most people don't like.

Which is why I'm starting to think it'll work out.

They couldn't even wait for Shula. This kind of insanity reeks of ulterior motives. They completely **** the bed with this move...

That's my biggest problem with this move. We barely looked at the better candidates who will be available later.

I was digging Hue Jackson, but who knows if we could have landed him. And if we didn't and Gase went to Philly, who were apparently ready to pull the trigger too, then we end could of ended up with nothing.

I don't know much about Gase, but I do know that he did a great job in Denver. And he did a very good job in Chicago, who's skill players were constantly hurt throughout the year. That's something to hang our hats on, IMO. I also like that he knows his X's and O's.

Well seeing how the Dolphins personal favorites the last four times have turned out to be disasters, how could his personal choice be any worse? Another guy with no head coaching experience. Super Bowl here we come

Would we not of been happy with Dan Quinn if we got rid of Philbin last year?

A lack of HC experience isn't a death sentence.

    Exactly...

When the report came out earlier that Tannenbaum wanted to hire Quinn but they kept Philbin instead everyone was up in arms because they wanted Quinn... the hot name at the time because of his work in Seattle, with NO nfl head coaching experience.

Yet here we are today, bashing the team for the Gase hiring, a hot offensive name, with no experience.

Huh? So much logic missing here in this one...

What has Gase done? Bears offense was barely better than ours. He got lucky when Peyton signed with Denver. We should have went after TC. The Gaints had a much better offense than the Bears.

I guess the Dolphins strategy is that if they hire enough coordinators with no HC experience they'll eventually snag the next John Harbaugh. Shanahan was the safest option but I guess they're gamblers down in Miami.

The part about him being their first choice, yea, in hindsight huh? Just because they didnt fly out to someone ala Harbaugh, how can we ever really know who their first choice was? Them getting their guy is something I believe they would say regardless of who they hired. I'll reserve judgement until they actually start playing games, but its getting harder to enjoy this team.

Meet the new boss, same as the old.

I'm going to root for the Phins no matter what but I was personally sold on Shannahan (sp?). He brought a no non-sense deal that probably would of kept Grime's wife in line. We'll see though - praying that it won't be Philibin 2.0.

I do not understand the certainty.

New OC's have failed. New DC's have failed. ST have failed. Retreads have fails. Multiple retreads have failed.

There is zero "before they were head coaches" that hasn't failed.

I'm not arguing for or against first time HCs be they offense or defense. But THIS hire stinks. Mostly because of Ross and Tannenbaum but also because there isn't anything about Gase that gives me hope he'll turn around the disaster that is our team.

A first year head coach has final say over the roster and will be calling the plays.

If you can't see that he's already in over his head, I can't help you.

    Mike Holmgren couldn't do this.
    Chip Kelly couldn't do this.

    But Adam Gase can....

He has final say over the 53. That's not what you're assuming it is.

That means the GM & Tbaum give him the players and he chooses which ones of those will be the 53. Considering that there will be a consensus over 45+ of the players, we're only talking at most 8 developmental guys. Who cares?

This is not what Holmgren and Kelly had. They had full control, that's different than this.

I'm fine with the pessimism though. The fanbase is so beaten down its expected. They aren't going to jump on board the "we won the offseason!" train anymore or put too much faith in any new coach or big time free agent or first round draft pick.

Now that the Chiefs have won a playoff game that only leaves the Bengals, Lions, Bills & Browns with a longer playoff win drought than the Dolphins. And while the Steelers are favored with the Bungles down to their backup QB, they have a shot to win as well tonight. Think about the company Miami is in.... BROWNS. Bills. Lions. Its sad how far they've fallen. 14 years ago Miami was one of the top teams in the league in playoff appearances. Their dreadful playoff record since 2001 has dropped them to the middle of the pack as a bunch of other franchises have passed them.

Plus I can see why a lot of fans wanted a retread coach who had led a team to a super bowl or some deep playoff runs, but hadn't yet won a super bowl and still hungry to do so. The last one like that Miami hired was Don Shula in 1970. Or a super bowl winning coach who would at least change the culture, last of which was Jimmy Johnson, who even though didn't bring Miami the SB, at least they won playoff games. So its easy to see why Dolphins fans are weary of hiring a 4th straight unproven head coach since all the others have failed.

I am hopeful Gase will follow in the footsteps of a John Harbaugh/Mike Tomlin rather than a Joe Philbin. I don't love it, I don't hate it, i'll just wait and see. Certainly hoping for the best! One thing is for sure though...if Tannehill doesn't become consistent under Gase then he is hopeless for this franchise, so we'll find that out in Tannehill's year 5. Hopefully Gase can make an impact right away like coaches such as Harbaugh did.

Heard some good stuff from Chicago fan. Said he was a great clock manager. So, that will be refreshing.

My thoughts from his press conference were that he overplayed his hand on what a thorough search it was; which was weird. Not the most eloquent guy. I think he's going to have a few Cam Cameron signature moments.

If he wins, great. If he loses, well, Ross will likely need to bring in his body double or at least a clone of himself.

He does look like a bit of a goof, but so did Philbin. With that said, I am not against this hire at all. Even Mooch was talking about him today. He gave him one of his first promotions early on with the Lions. He was saying how he is extremely driven and committed, etc, and how he's always had a vision and a goal and is extremely determined to make it happen. FWIW

That isn't an indictment on "first time HCs" or this regime, it's more of an indictment on previous regimes' inability to hire a good HC.

There are plenty examples of hiring former HCs, previous college HCs, even ex-SB winning HCs, that didn't pan out around the league also.

Just like the draft and free agency...it's a crapshoot.
