How many times do the dolphins have to be burned by trading picks for players We need depth and youth. If we need to bring in free agents fine, but no trading picks. We need to build thru the draft and selcetive quality free agents.
Agreed. In general the only thing that we should be trading draft picks for, is more draft picks. We should take the old Jimmy approach of moving down in the draft to stockpile as many picks as possible.
I don't think Tuna is into trading picks away....this is not Wanny you guys are talking about so relax guys. Ozzy rules!!
Normally, that would be great, but at #1 and #32, we're poised to select some truly unique talent this year: #1 overall can net us Dorsey, Chris Long, Vernon Gholston, or Ryan Clady; #32 overall can possibly net us Fred Davis. Trading down gets you more picks, but the talent level just isn't the same. We need not just lots of new players, but we need premium players as well.
Thje problem is that we need lots of good players , not just one premium player. If we could turn 3 picks in the first two rounds into six picks in the first two rounds we will have more opportunities to add good players.
I don't know how many times but a few bonehead trades in recent years come to mind... 5th rd pick for Trent Green 2nd rd pick for Culpepper 5th rd pick for Harrington 3rd rd pick for Lamar Gordon 2nd rd pick for AJ Feeley (worst trade in team history) We're on the right track now though. I don't envision Parcell's getting taken advantage of. His whole philosophy is acquiring young talent and grooming them.
IMO This draft will be the most important and can make or break this organization! This theme about trading draft picks has been discussed sooooooo many times. There will be more pressure than ever to get this draft RIGHT. The rounds are all a little shorter and we need more than ever a true draft " genuise ". Parcells has always exceled at these drafts, but only time will tell. Don't trade the picks...
The reason I brang it up is I constantly hear people on this forum talking aobut trading a pick for this or that player. I'm astounded any one could say that considering our record of trading pick for lousy players.
WE could trade our players for draft picks couldn't we? Kidding, unless the player is a "throw in" I agree, enough of being the garbage disposal of washed up and never quite made it Qb's....
