Why is everyone so bummed out over this? I said it once and I'll say it a again Favre only had a great year because he had a kick *** team around him. The past 2 or 3 years he's been sucking donkey balls He had 2 stud WRs, and a RB that turned out to be a damn good one, oh and their D kicked *** too. He is going to a weaker team. Who do the Jets have on offense? Laverneus? Thomas? A good Wr and a decent RB? Thats not enough. On D they have a kickass Safety, a question mark with Pace and a talented but unkown commodity in Gholston. The Jets are so desperate to win it all right now its hilarious. Lets say they make the playoffs, they lose and Favre retires, then what? they are back to square one.
BREAKING NEWS: Deanna Favre to be named NYC Mayor. RELATED NEWS: Eli still the best New York QB from Mississippi.
All very true but the bad part about it is that it hurts the Fins chances at the division/playoffs. I agree with others though that the Jets are a 8-9 win team and I could see at best 10-6. I base that off of the better AFC competition Brett will face (which I feel is being over looked) but not that he can't learn the system in time to help.
here's why buddy: farve's been erratic and unreliable for years now. his play and green bay's was aweful prior to last year, but he always got the courtesy from everyone because he's the wiley ole vet, and produced a superbowl. green bay did have a weak schedule last year, though they do have a ton of talent there. solid all-pro's throughout all units. that team, as proved in the Dallas game by Rogers play, won inspite of farve, not because of farve. the jets jave dumped 130 million in contracts, and not one of these overpaid FA's and tradees are a sure thing. they're forcing round pegs into square holes. big, shiny, expensive round pegs. throw on farves ginormous contract to the fire, and the fact that kellen clemens career is basically finished. its doomsday in NY. his time is now. if he's gonna play, you gotta go and see if the kid can play. give kellen a chance. but instead, the job goes to farve. waste of another high draftee. farve will get 50% of the snaps, and it will cost the Jets a 3rd rounder. and for that, they'll get an old loveable slinger who is inconsistent, confused, and turn-over prone. week 1, you will see, if he starts. mangini has acted like a frightened little man this off-season. he's made humongous moves that will devastate the jets in the long run.
You are joking right? I wholeheartedly disagree with pretty much all of that. This move could hurt the Jets in the long run but not that much as Clemens will still be around when Favre retires. This I think is a great move for the Jets...it may not give them a Super Bowl win but they are now a playoff contender.
I could probably troll the entire history of the NFL and not find one QB who averaged 20 INT's over a 5 year span because any other QB's who throws that many picks gets benched
Dude, there is no chance in hell that the Dolphins are taking the division, 6 or 7 wins is reasonable. We wont be god for a while but when we are the jets will be the new Bungels! Mangini took a Huuuuuuuuuge gamble.
Actually I don't know where you are getting your numbers but Favre has thrown 20+ INTs 2 times in the past 5 years (1 of those 2 times he threw for more TDs than INTs) and has only thrown for over 20+ INTs 5 times in his career (2 of those years he had more TDs than INTs). Here is the link of my info: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/stats?playerId=112
Yes there is a chance in hell the Fins can win the division...likely well I wouldn't bet on it. The fact is that any year anything can happen and I'm not giving up on the Fins for any year and saying well in 2 or 3 years the Fins will be good isn't good enough for me. Sorry but that is how I feel and by the Jets being better it hurts that...which I don't like.
what do you disagree with? the jets didn't spend 130 million this off-season, paying calvin pace like he's the next LT? praying faneca unites a suspect line?hoping jenkins can play NT for the first time in his career? the packers arent an extremely talented team? farve's been consistent and doesnt make many mistakes? and so when does kellen get his shot, in his 5th or 6th season? when do they give him the playing time to develope? and who knows when farve is gonna retire anyway...could be 2013!
Fair enough, nothing wrong with a little optimism. But this trade has a good chance of being a catastrop**** of epic proportions.
Ok yeah well some things were right but Pace, Jenkins, and Faneca were quality moves. Farve has been pretty consistent over the past few years (except the 4-12 season) certainly better than what the Jets have had or the Fins. Yes the Packers are talented but not extremely talented (I would rank the Pats, Chargers, Colts, Cowboys, and a couple others ahead of them especially without Farve). Also if Farve retires in 2013 then this is an even better deal for the Jets (although they would have to get another deal done). Kellen Clemens would get his shot whenever...such as when Farve's skills went below Clemens which could be 2013. So I think that answers your questions nicely.
Ok got me there as I mis-read your post. However over that same period Favre has thrown an average of 25 TDs and the Packers have only had 1 losing season during that time. So I still see Favre's pros outweighing his cons.
29 !!! jeez, wonder if that had anything to do with them going 4-12 in 05'? naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
I think its gonna be a 2nd. By the way there is a poison pill in the trade by GB to the Jets. If the Jets now turn around and trade Favre to Minnesota or Chicago, the Jets will owe GB their 2009, 2010 and 2011 1st round draft picks. So he will play in NY we are almost certain. No word on whether or not there is a poison pill if they trade him in 2009. But does anyone else smell a stink coming out of the NFL HQ's ? Ever since Goodell has taken over, big markets get all the breaks. Now the latest, the Jets end up with Farvre ?..... Anyone putting a good spin on this, is just blowin' smoke. This just put the Dolphins behind an even bigger 8-ball. Forget winning 7 games like I thought, it will be at best 6 now. Now be ready for the week 1 game to be on in most of the country, with Farvre throwing 3 or 4 TDs in a humiliating start to 2008 for the Fins. When will it end for us Dolphins & DolFans ?
right, farve will waltz into jets camp, and with a whopping three weeks under his belt, lead a 4 td effort in humiliating us in our own backyard.
Joe got them to the playoffs at least once (I remember us beating them in the 1st round of the playoffs w/Montana), and look at what happened last year with the Giants. If you think Jets fans are obnoxious NOW, just wait til you see what happens if they make a run and win the SB
Pfft... and they said you were an optimist... Seriously, winning 6 games versus winning 7 games? what's the difference? Either way, we aren't going to the playoffs. Man, "building a culture" should include the fans too, we need to put things in the proper perspective...
Wow Packers should just rename themselves to *****s. They put a clause where they can't trade him to the Vikings or it will cost 3 First rounders. They were really scared ****less if he became a Vike.
most of us didn't want any part of favray BG... I am more than a little surprised that mangina took this route.. it could blow up in your face baddddd. At some point, favray is going to collapse.. now, it will happen to you, not the Pack. The way "I" look at it, at least we have a chance against favray, penny owned us for years...
I'm not bummed that the Jets got him. He's a 17 yr vet for christsake. He might do really well this yr, and you might be able to squeeze one more yr out of him after this one. But he's a bottle of fix-a-flat. He wont fix the hole, he's just a temp. patch. I'm just bummed for 1) This absolutely KILLS the "retirement" value of any merchandise I have of his, selfish yes, I know. 2) I refuse to cheer or enjoy watching anything in those colors. I beat up my dog once for pooping out that color.
Time to put old Favre in the cross hairs and take him and his new team out in week one. And to do it in front of most of he country will be even sweeter!!!
