Armando reports that "he thinks" that the Fins cleared 20 mil in restructuring Suh and Misi, assuming that the Fins went full bore on the restructure of Suh, but that restructure could be any amount, we won't know until it gets released. Assuming it is, that's 20 mil in restructure, 10 mil in carry over and another 5 mil on Jennings, so possibly 35 mil to work with right now.
either way it goes the dolphins save money, i think if the dolphins release wake they save something like 8.5 million dollars.
If we use overthecap.com it's 19.7, total between all 3 players and we have to replace Jennings so assuming around 3 to 4 for his replacement net 16m ( their numbers have been updated it appears because they are different then yesterday for those players) I don't get why we would bring in Mario Williams with his salary - has Tannenblow not learned anything. We are NYJ 2.0 Not trying to be negative just realistic. If we theoretically, cut Wake and resind the tag we can gain another 10 but then have to replace those players with ?????. If salary dictates skill level and we cut salary by 1/2 to gain the cap room, ummm............ Surrounding Suh with less talent seems counter intuitive
Should left suh's contract alone. There were moves to be made elsewhere to clear space without handcuffing the team's future. They essentially pushed this year's number to 2018. They could have stayed where they were and freed up to 20 million without this. They are making win-now moves when they haven't won **** in 8 years. The future looks bleak, particularly if vernon and Miller get overpaid here.
Depends on how much the cap goes up too. Pushing some of Suh's salary to 2018 isn't a bad idea if the cap goes up 5-10 million a year.
Could go anywhere. Their OL is a horrific mess (people think we have the worst in the league) so Tunsil is a no-brainer if he drops or the Titans trade down. Probably too early for Stanley but you never know. Aside from them, Bosa, Buckner or Jack are the likely candidates. Why do we need to replace Jennings with a pricey player? Assuming we re-sign Matthews, we have no need. Landry, Matthews, Parker and Stills. Add some PS players or a mid/low rook and you are fine. As for Mario, he will likely not get a big contract. He is at a buy-low point right now. Doubt we spend significantly on him, but at a good price, he can definitely be an asset - especially if we end up losing Vernon. The cap is projected to go up by pretty good amounts in the next few years, it makes sense in this context.
Earl Mitchell saves us 2.5mm if we release him too, also Grimes could get us 9mm....plenty of ways to get space opened up. Excited for free agency. Don't think we'll make huge splashes, but lots of mid-sized signings that will plump up our roster and give us depth.
However, there are experts that are saying the cap will plateau for a few years, revenues will most likely not go up much in the next couple years, this was a network contract year, and experts are saying that the revenue is pretty much maxed out for the time being, so in 18 the salary cap may only be 2 or 3 mil higher than it is now, Suh will be 26.7 mil in 18, 28.7 mil in 19, and is now untradable and unreleasable until 2020, the final year of his contract. This is all assuming that they pushed the max on Suh's contract, that has been unreleased, they may have just tweaked it, and it may be put on next years cap which was Suhs lowest remaining year, we'll see.
26.7 mil in 18, 28.7 mil in 19, and nearly 10 mil per in guaranteed bonus/dead cap, per year, and since this was a network contract year revenues will not be going up much next year, so probably only minimal increase in the cap for a couple years, like it was in '11-'13, when the cap only went up 3 mil in a 3 year span.
dolphins and jordan cameron working on a restructure is awesome, i still think cameron can be very good for us.
Well would you rather have more money right now and for the next couple of seasons or when Suh is 2-3 years older? It is what it is, we have big money tied up in Tannehill and Suh for the next few years, we have to clear room and try to put together a run. Could it blow up in our face? Sure, but the gamble is that a better coaching staff, good draft and some key FA pickups will let us contend for the division. I don't think we have the final numbers to really judge the move quite yet either.
DJ, I posted it in club, but Suh's 2016 cap number is now under 11 million, down from 28. We took that 18 million and spread it out over 2017-2020. Next year, his cap hit will be 19, and then around 25 the rest of the time. From a practical standpoint, it would now essentially be meaningless to cut him through 2019, as the team would see no relief. He's here for the long haul. While his deal could be redone again, I think its unlikely, as that would make the number in the later years even bigger. If he's still at the top of his game come 2018 or so, then I suppose that there could be an extension, but since he'll be 32 at the start of the 2019 season, that's far from a given.
Suh wants to be in the hall of fame, so I think he will want to play for a long time..if we can do another restructure then I don't foresee future problems, as long as he's willing to play front office ball.
As long as he's in shape and playing well its worth it, he's a beast -in the right defense I don't see any reason why in a few years we can't work out some kind of extension. There are a lot of ways to work with deals in the NFL, teams do it all the time.
These were obvious and, most likely, agreed upon moves for Suh. You can replace Jennings with in house candidates like Matt Hazel, who we have decided to keep as an ERFA. Landry, Parker, Stills, Hazel and a cheap veteran/draft pick. In other words, Jennings, replacement better not cost too much, because it is unnecessary. Cameron restructuring is probably best for both sides. He would not make nearly as much this offseason, if we were to release him, and Miami probably can't replace his talent for anything cheaper than what they agree upon. Win-win for both. I want to see the draft focus on defense with free agency fixing our o-line as much as we possibly can. Or vice versa. Either way, those are our hot spots. WR, QB, RB (assuming Miller stays), TE are all satisfied. Focus on the o-line, and defense across the board.
