While 2013 is pretty bad, 1999 is worse.

1999 didn't have a Dion Sims or a Jelani Jenkins. Plus Gillislee might actually be a good back, looked good on another team.

1999 best players are Rob Konrad and Grey Ruegamer. 1999 is freaking terrible, while 2013 is just plain terrible.

You could have made this post in any of the last 10 years, save 2012, and you may have had some points. This was a homerun. The only reason I can think of people not liking this draft is if they just lurk on message boards hearing everyone say " we need linebackers, we need line backers!" Open your eyes, and see the vision this staff has for this roster. Its exciting and every piece drafted this weekend is going to make contributions, on offense, defense, STs. Iv never felt this impressed after a draft!(even in 2012, when we grabbed our QB, wasnt sold on him, but now im happy as f*** hes here)

When I evaluate a draft, I look at what the team is TRYING to do with their picks, and trying to fathom what their goals are. This draft was easy to do that. Previous ones...not so much. Youll never hit on all your picks, so even if some of these guys dont pan out, its ok; atleast the right decisions are being attempted.

I don't know if it's the worst, I doubt it because we had some very bad ones, even very recently (thank you Ireland) I just don't see how could ever be an homer run draft, even in the best case scenario and I don't get for what I should feel excited for, aside from Tunsil and the improvement of our OL (not a small thing, mind you, but it's not enough in my eyes), but ok, I'll try to open my eyes.

the pick I hate the most: Drake. I think I didn't feel this bad about a Dolphins pick since the selection of Pat White (whta a wonderful draft that it was, after White in the 2nd, we picked Turner in the 3rd... 2 selections that made me wanted to cry, at the time). When I read the Saban's words about him, that should be praising.... discouragin to say the least.

the pick I love the most: Tunsil, of course; I like also Duarte.

Baffling choices: 2 luxury picks (2 wr when it is one of the few position we have covered?!)/ 2 gadget picks (Drake and Grant: players that require some kind of maunfacturing touches, unless you believe that Drake could be a "normal" running back - I don't, but I am just a regular Joe - or the Grant can be a "normal" wr, maybe in the slot)

But I know the answer, this is all for Gase that will be able to exploit and create missmatch and so on, they now have a vision, they are all in sync and so on. let's hope so. I highly doubt it (especially because I don't see how we will run the ball, unless Jay is healthy and the real deal and because the young offensive genius that is smarter than everybody else is not something so new), but let's hope

a last thing: when someones says "you never hit on every pick" just to say that's its ok if not all of your pick are good, I agree, but that's exactly the precise reason why you don't go wasting away a pick trading up for 4 (4!) spots in the second or trading away next year's pick.... exactly because you don't hit on every pick and you need to increase you chances instead of reducing them, in a number game.

sorry for my sucky sucky English.

Why can't Drake be a "normal" running back? He is a little tall at 6'1", however he is 210lbs. He isn't a super small guy.

That seems like praise to me.

The main problem I have with Drake is that he has had some injury problems, which has never lead him to have a chance to be a feature back. Plus Alabama has had some good "normal" backs, so using him as a 3rd down/change of pace back fit their offense.

first of all, let me repeat that I am no expert, mine are mainly feelings and opinions, but not based on any inside knowledge of the sport or the position. but, I don't think, when you are talking up a running back, picked in the 3rd round, that these kind of words are inspiring, on the contrary:

he does have some potential as a running back [some potential?! like, an afterthought? it's not his main role being a running back?!]

He's kind of a specialty guy [to me, considering that it came from someone that wont say anything negative about the kid, this sounds like a benign version of : he is a gadget player]

bout 60-65 percent passing in the NFL right now. Well, that's certainly a guy you could feature in an offense like that. [to me it sounds like: he's not a true running back but in today NFL, where passing is all there is, even this guy could - maybe - have a role]

I understand that maybe it's just me and my interpretation, but I really find overwhelming uninspiring words about a running back picked so high: no word about vision, cutting ability, missing tackles, breaking tackles

the main reasons why I think he wont be a normal running back are:
    his coach that talk about his running in that way;
too thin considering the height (like others said, he seems to be built like a WR)
never running inside, always trying bouncing outside
    injury history
I don't see anything special about him in his highlights (usually video that should make you appear at the best of your game)

Leonte Carroo is a Rishard Matthews clone, with better speed. The guy can play. He plays angry and he's super competitive. Working with Juice and Parker will help him.

Matthews was a good player that the previous regime never liked. He could have been more productive. He signed a contract with the Titans worth 4 mil a year. Carroo's contract will cost us approx. 4 mill for its entirety. I would consider that adequate replacement. I expect him to get 30 - 35 catches this year...and probably some scores. He finds the end zone. By next year, he'll be in our 3 WR set. The guy can play.

Worst draft you've ever seen? I can see why you're a "rookie", that or you're someone whose opinion wasn't very credible and you created a new profile to continue with banter with the same results.

When Gase was hired as head coach, I told everyone here that if Gase were to be successful, you had better believe in his system and get him what HE wants and needs. Unless he pulls a Saban and comes out later telling us he wanted "this" player and instead got "that" player, I'll have to believe what HE got what HE wanted.

Be patient and wait until the season starts before everyone starts belittling this draft class.

While I have stated on several threads that I wish the Dolphins had been more proactive in selecting players for the defensive side of the ball, I am not going to blast them for going in the direction they did.

The fact is Gase was hired because of his ability on the offensive side of the ball. So it appears they decided that this years draft would be used to upgrade the offense. Especially since it is going to take more than one draft to fill the many holes this team still has. Especially on the defensive unit.

Hopefully they now have the talent on the offensive unit which will allow us to see if Tannehill can finally become a consistent QB in the NFL. With four first round drafts picks on the OL and all the playmakers the The FO and coaching have have provided him with, the 2016 season will finally be the season we can see if Tannehill can be the QB to lead this team for the next several years. There are absolutely no excuses for him and this offense anymore.

Assuming the offense is as productive as it looks on paper, the Dolphins will be able to use the 2017 draft to upgrade the defense. I never thought this was going to be a quick rebuild. It is going to take 2 or 3 productive drafts to get this team beyond mediocre. Hopefully this draft will be the first of those productive drafts.

This appears to to be a 6-10 team right now, based on the question marks on defense and the schedule the Dolphins play in 2016. I think if they go 8-8, Gase would deserve votes as coach of the year.

I plan to remain patient because I have high hopes for Gase and this coaching staff going forward. I think it will probably be 2018 before this team will be a legitimate playoff contender. So while my immediate expectations remain what I consider realistic. What I want to see this coming season and the next few seasons after that is a team getting better each year. Until they finally are able to reach the playoffs and actually become a legitimate threat to win the SB.

At my age, I just hope I am still around when this finally occurs. Until then, I will just sit back and enjoy the offense that this organization is going to be putting on the field in the coming years. It looks like it could be fun to watch, with Gase now calling the plays.

As as for defense, I'm not impressed right now, but hopefully those holes will be filled over the next few drafts.
Since I never expected the Dolphins would be able to fill all the positions they need too in one draft, there is certainly no reason to be negative after just one draft.

They are what they are right now but hopefully a few years from now what they will be is, one of the best teams in the NFL. Only time will tell.

I was really disappointed that we didnt focus more on the defense. Really felt that was where we needed the most help. After going over who they did take and looking into them some, I am much more optimistic. From all apearances they stuck to their board and moved when needed. Seems they grabbed guys with some fire for a change and that may be the single biggest thing that needs to change on this team after all that time under bland Joe. I still wish we would have netted more players on the defense, but I think this was a good haul.

I think their picks are more indicative of how the draft went down and them sticking to their board rather than targeting offense over defense.

I understand what Gase is doing, I was saying prior to the draft that we should focus on offense, so we can get the best read on Tanne that we can, and that may be the biggest issue with the Fins right now, because this is the year before his money truck backs up to his house, this is the make or break year for the QB, who is the most important player on the team.

Massive coup getting Tunsil, could be that Oline becomes a strength now, crazy right, and then getting a true SE type WR, to fully round out the WR corps, 2 short area specialists in Drake and Grant, whom you can dump the ball to and get chunk yards, at least in theory at this point, and a possible "mismatch" H-back in the vein of Clay, who may also be a short area target that gets open quickly vs LBs.

When I'm evaluating players, I use a "10 story building" approach, 10 floors, with a roof and a basement, Tunsil has a floor on the 8th with a ceiling on top of the door enclosure on the roof, a generational LT type of talent, in 4 years "Tunsil" may be synonymous with "as good as it gets at LT".

Howards floor is in the basement, but his ceiling is on the roof, a full on boom or bust player, I didn't like trading up for him at all, but if it works...

Drake is my least favorite pick of this draft, floor in the basement with his ceiling on the 5th floor, a decent complimentary or bust player in the 3rd, a top of the 3rd player should have a higher ceiling imo, or at the very least a higher floor.

Did not like trading away picks for Carroo, but I do like Carroo, imo his floor is the 4th, and his ceiling is the 10th, at the very least I think he'll be a good rotational WR, at best he could be a Matthews-Landry combination player, because he exhibits traits of both players.

Grant is a basement floor with a 6th ceiling, yes, I think he has higher potential than Drake, because he's more versatile and dynamic, and getting that in the 6th is great value imo.
I do think his room in the basement is right next to the furnace, while Drake's is right next to the elevator, we cannot pretend that his 5'6" frame carrying 165lbs isn't an issue, eventually he will get hit, and then, death? Pat White could only take one shot in the NFL, Grant does have a more compact build, but is actually smaller than White.

    I can't comment on Lucas.

Doughty is a basement to roof prospect, as good a QB prospect as you can hope for in the 7th, great value.

    I can't comment on Weatherly.

Duarte is great value in the 7th imo, as it is with all 7ths, his floor is in the basement, but his ceiling is around the 7th imo, he could become a "Clay", one of those severe mismatch H-backs.

This draft has a ceiling on the patio on the roof, with a floor on the 4th imo, could be greatest draft ever, or could be slightly disappointing, but at the least, I think we will always be able to say, at least we got Tunsil and Carroo.

It's ridiculous at best to say "worse draft ever" when we don't know for sure what their vision is. We haven't even seen a play ran yet. It's as ridiculous as saying THill shouldn't have watched Denver tape of Manning just because of un informed opinions and assumptions. Let it play out first at least. Not to mention this draft isn't solving all the problems and holes on this team, it's just a step in the process.

I'm looking at the whole picture with our FA signings included in the draft. Obviously our oline should be improved but the biggest change is in the defensive backfield. We got bigger which I think was crucial especially in our division. Our db's seemed to be manhandled in divisional games. I think we still might be in the market for a lb though.

Looking at this as a two year plan. It's obvious they loaded up on offense. Trading up for a WR when you used a 2 two years, ago, a 1 and a 3 last year, and now a 3 and 4 from 2017? And then now we have 4 first round picks on the oline?

They're basically saying, Tanny has no excuses anymore. He's got a ton of weapons. Someone sold Ross on this 2 year plan. If we're losing games because of defense but scored 27+ points, that's a win.

One thing I did like a lot about the Miami Dolphins draft is that they were going to big personalities and competitors. Players who believe they are the best and do the work to back it up.

we needed someone to compliment Ajayi, he is the lead back, he would of been a top 3 prospect in this draft, he is in shape and he needs just a compliment, I just didn't have as high grades on Booker and Dixon and some did..drake has speed, hands and agility...compliment the horse..we had to have a player that had some upside..

Even I'm down on the Drake pick. However, there was some emphasis placed on how good of a gunner he is on special teams.

Vadaal Alexander lasted til the 7th round. Wish we would've taken a flyer on him.

I agree with you. If the OL can gel and all of these young skill players can get on the same page with RT17, and learn the playbook, then the offense has the potential to not only be really good in 2016, but to be set up into the future. At least the passing game aspect of it. I'll be sad if we're losing games because we can't stop teams on defense, but you can't fix it all in one offseason. If things go even satisfactory with all of the guys we've brought in, then we shouldn't even have the possibility of needing to look at any starters through free agency or the draft next year on the offensive side of the ball.

What does that even mean? First round pick doesn't equate to actual ability. Brandon Albert has been hurt for two years running and played most of last year injured and without off-season workouts. James hasn't lived up to his 1st round status. Pouncey has been good, but he's gotten banged up too and played a shortened season at G in 2014. Context matters. This o-line hasn't produced for one reason or another, regardless of how many 1st rounders start.

they went offense in the draft because they went defense in free agency. We got a starting safety, cornerback, linebacker and defensive end in the free agency period (yes i know it was a trade) and a bag of potato chips for offense in free agency. were we supposed to come into camp with six starting linebackers or ten cornerbacks?

it seems to me the staff went role players in this draft which is cool if they pan out. i know other than tunsil i had several players ahead of everyone we drafted from rd 2 on up. none of these guys were even on my radar. hopefully they know what they're doing and will prove why they get paid and we dont
