Are you just reading the main story line? A lot of the other mini series are really good like Weirdworld, 1872, Old Man Logan, Civil War and more.
Marvel announces Ant-Man sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp with both Rudd and Evangeline Lilly reprising the roles.
I just saw that from them in my Facebook feed. I need to see the first one soon so I don't get things spoiled. This link from Geek Tyrant has some good details too. http://geektyrant.com/news/marvel-adds-ant-man-and-the-wasp-movie-to-their-phase-3-lineup Wondering what the three movies in 2020 will be. Fun to look that far ahead and know there will be things still coming out in the MCU.
Doctor Strange Trailer. This actually looks good. No Marvel movie has had quite the acting cred that this one does.
Yeah it looks good. Interesting that both Dr. Strange and Fantastic Beasts are coming out within 2 weeks of each other. I wonder if one gets moved closer to Christmas People may be wizarded out
Lots of recognizable names. I loved Ejiofor in Serenity. I've only seen Mikkelsen in Casino Royale, but I would expect based on his history, he'll be a bad guy. Tilda Swinton is just a weird person, but she can be good in the right role. I liked her in Constantine. In other MCU news, I read yesterday that Natalie Portman will not be returning for the third Thor movie. Thats ok, because I don't think shes all that great anyways, but I hope that doesn't mean her awesome sidekick, the much more awesome Darcy played by Kat Dennings isn't written out as well. Shes one of the best parts of those movies.
Honestly, (and I don't mean this as an insult in any way, size, shape or form) but that is classic overthinking it IMO. Its typical Hollywood missing the point type thinking, like Deadpool made money so let's make R rated super hero movies and we'll make money too. These are going to be vastly different movies.
With my limited opprotunity to get to the movies, it may mean that my wife and I have to choose though. My wife loves Marvel, but she loves Harry Potter more, so I may have a debate on my hands, lol.
I agree they're vastly different in terms of tone, etc., and I don't think proximity will stop people (like me) from seeing both, but I imagine the studios are keeping an eye on it and doing some research It is interesting that both films are asking audiences to get involved with new characters they (likely) don't know but are part of a larger narrative that they like For example, I don't think it was an accident that Dumbledore got mentioned in the Fantastic Beasts trailer even though he doesn't appear in the movie
They'll be out on Blu Ray by next April lol You'll be able to catch Dr Strange before Spider-Man in May 2017
Your wife may love marvel and the subject matter in a different movie that's out at the same time and a choice has to be made.
Which are perfect examples of my point....the studio execs are idiots. If you get people to think Dumbledore is in it, they may just be pretty upset afterwards when he isn't. Sell it has a Harry Potter prequel and you'll get a big opening, but if it sucks or is just meh (which let's be honest it probably will be, as are all Harry Potter movies), then people will turn on you and you'll fizzle out after the first weekend. Deadpool had cursing ergo if a superhero movie has cursing it will make money. Its all so stupid. Just make good movies.
I need to see what they do with Spider man in Cival War and how he's now a part of the MCU. If he's just going back to his old adventures and seperate, then I really have no interest. Didn't like the first two movies with Toby McGuire and haven't seen the others since. On the flip side, this is a good article about John Favreau's influence on the MCU and how after he got the ball rolling with Iron Man, the rest took note and it helped mold the whole process. Marvel keeps getting it right, over and over, as far as I'm concerned. Every time I go in not sure of something, it turns out better than I thought. From seeing Iron Man in the cinema unsure what to think after everything Marvel related aside from the X-Men movies had disappointed me to that point and loving it....to not even seeing the first Captain America in the cinema and waiting until it came on TV and now having seen it a dozen times....to barely knowing anything about Guardians of the Galaxy, seeing it almost purely on faith, and having it become one of my favorite movies, regardless of genre, of all time. I just hope they keep doing what they do well for as long as they can. And kudos to Favreau for setting it all in motion the way that he did.
I'll stick up for the Harry Potter films a bit. The first two suck, I give you. But Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire and Deathly Hallows 2 are legitimately good movies. And the others are still watchable, if not great
I enjoyed every one, but I also didn't read the books. My wife was mad as hell over the Prisoner of Azkaban and tiffed at a few others.
The early Civil War reviews were unembargoed by Marvel Universally spectacular. Best Marvel film ever. Huge praise for Tom Holland
I have found in my conversations that the people who read the books disliked the movies that I enjoyed. I really like Prisoner of Azkaban. Good movie.
I loved the books and think Prisoner of Azkaban is the best film. Cuaron is the best director in the series by far. It was jarring though since the style was so different from the first two and Curaon made several changes, like putting the kids in jeans and sweaters. In the books, people who grew up in the wizarding world should have never even seen jeans. Small obviously but some book fans hated it.
Here's the review from the industry mag Variety. You'd be hard pressed to find a more positive review. http://variety.com/2016/film/reviews/captain-america-civil-war-review-1201752643/
http://geektyrant.com/news/jon-favreau-returning-to-marvel-to-produce-avengers-infinity-war John Favreau is coming back to Marvel to produce the Infinity Wars. Good to have so many people involved who really care about the product and have done right by it so far.
So who else is going to go see Civil War on Friday when it comes out? My wife and I are going to the 10am showing as part of our 10th Anniversary date.
I won't go Friday, but probably will go the following week if my wife can get off work early enough one day (or we'll see an early show next weekend). I still need to watch Ant-Man.
Just cheat on her with the movie and see it again with her. Act like you are watching it the first time. If it is as good as people are saying, it is worth double dipping.
Didn't see Ant Man in the cinema either, but it was better than I expected. I think that we're actually going to watch Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron the next two nights to make sure we're completely up to speed and haven't forgotten anything.
I just saw Civil War. It is so good it makes me dislike Batman v Superman even more. Best Spider-Man ever. Spoiler [Spoilers]I can't believe they pretty much fit a Black Panther origin story so perfectly in the movie.[/Spoilers] Love it so much. IMO, it is the Empire Strikes Back of the Marvel cinematic universe.
Your spoiler tags aren't right. But I think that's a big endorsement because, IIRC, you were not happy about Civil War when it was announced because you hated the comic.....right? Also, does Spidey have a good amount of screen time?
It was 2am at the time Sorry about that. I wasn't happy when they annouced Civil War. I thought Serpent Society was a better idea. I was wrong. They did such a great job of setting up the battle between the two. So amazing. Spidey had about 30 minutes in the movie and they were all excellent. That was the Spider-Man from the comic book. During the entire battle, he didn't shut up. Just like Spider-Man does in the comics. Plus he is a teenager.
Not an all time great, but I really enjoyed it. I thought that they did a really good job introducing the characters new to the MCU, especially the Black Panther. The acting and dialogue were excellent, as were the action scenes. The special effects were excellent, and in some surprising ways that really caught my attention. And despite the movie being over two and a half hours long, it moved along really well and never felt long, or slow. I thought that I knew how the movie was going to end about 3/4 of the way through, but they really surprised me at the end. I might actually be depressed about how it ended if I didn't know there were more movies coming. Not angry or disappinted, but emotionally depressed. I was surprised about how much they chose to use some characters, and how little they chose to use others. Not good or bad, just surprised. My biggest critique was though the dialogue was excellent and the movie really moved, I thought that they could have done better in multiple spots to explain the motivations of the characters. Why they were either so in favor, or so opposed, to certain things within the plot. Why they chose to act a certain way, or why they were so quick to do so. I'm not opposed to any of the end choices, I just thought they could have fleshed it out or explained things a bit better at multiple points. I get that with the movie already as long as it was, that can be easier said than done, but a few lines of dialogue here or there could have gone a long way. In the end, I see it as a really good connector movie, that moves the greater MCU along, and does a good job in doing so. Excited to see how they branch off from this point and move forward. I understand the choice to give the movie a darker tone, though that's not usually my own cup of tea. A valid choice, even if it wasn't my preferred one.
I disagree with this. Other than Hawkeye, I thought they were very well explained. During the entire movie I felt I understood everyone's motivations. Other than Hawkeye. Didn't really explain why he showed up out of nowhere. I thought this was a great movie period while being a great connector movie. It has a very Spoiler Empire Strikes Back feel to the ending. Since Spoiler Empire Strikes Back is my favorite movie of all time, I think it shows a lot why I absolutly love this movie. Spoiler The villian won. Period. It wasn't even close.
I'm struggling a bit to process my feelings about Civil War. I liked it, but somehow also managed to be a bit disappointed by it. Maybe the hype train got hold of me and my expectations were just too high. I guess it feels to me a bit like it was trying to be both an Avengers movie and a Captain America movie, but never really managed either one to full effect. Lots of the characters seemed to just be there without anything to do other than get into a big (and admittedly awesome) fight scene.
