Anyone else playing? I have it on XBone and it is quite fun. More arcadey than a COD or what have you. First shooter I've really felt OK playing multiplayer with.
I have it on the PC, and I agree with you. The last FPS I really played multiplayer was Unreal Tournament, LOL. This one though, it takes over your soul. I did get into the Mass Effect series, but only single player.
Level 40 ish on the pc version with my gf. man. As someone who has mostly played multiplayer fps since I was like 8, Overwatch is the most amazing combination of casual and competitive ive ever seen or heard of in an arena shooter. The game is just flat out amazing. High replayability, amazing aesthetics, good balance. I mean this is the real deal. I enjoyed the beta but its even nicer now that its live. I cannot put this game down man.
I don't see the point of playing Overwatch considering Team Fortress 2, which Overwatch largely copies, is free to play.
Then I would assume you might not have played either enough, imo. The similarities between the two COMPLETELY stop at the genre of arena shooter (which used to be baselined at game type but now in 2016 includes classes). I got the orange box when it first came out, have over 3500 hours in tf2 and ran my own public server, and the games are universes apart to me. I'll always love TFC and TF2 but Overwatch is just infinitely better imo. Blacklight retribution is free, why play that over COD/Battlefield/CS if youre looking for bang for your buck? Idk man, everyone has their thing. But with the way blizz did their class design it honestly adds a new dynamic to the genre that wasnt there before. With the classes and the spell timings in a fast paced competitive setting, it feels more like a WoW 6v6 arena match in first person than it does a TF2 game. As a die hard eSports fan, my biggest knock on blizz/overwatch is that its obvious this was blizz trying to get their foot in the door on the competitive scene (after hearthstone finally started making some splashes and HotS never really pulled any viewers) and it kind of seems forced in that sense. One of the main issues is that the game is not that fun to watch as a spectator sport, compared to a CS or a DotA for example, which are much slower paced, easier to follow, and pull millions of viewers. On top of that, The meta makes for ridiculous and borderline stupid team compositions and its pretty hard to work the camera properly for a stream when there is just so many things going on. That seems to be the biggest complaint ive heard and Im inclined to agree with it after watching a few tournies. It will probably be the first and only game I actively play and pretty much ignore the meta and pro scene.
Doubtful, i'd wager. The only thing hilarious is equating overwatch to tf2 in any way shape or form outside of being a cartoonish arena shooter imo. Certainly haven't heard anyone else from TF2 say anything remotely close, so you'd be in the extreme minority I would guess. Why does anyone play any game that costs money when there are free to play equivalents of literally every game/genre on the planet then, again? lol. Arena shooters have always been a niche market. TF2, although cartooney, has just been the only popular one for a considerable amount of time (and was also pretty much a dead game before it became FTP), so naturally any new-age or modernized take on the genre made by ANY dev was going to appear as 'largely copying' it. The two games aren't even in the same ballpark, man. That'd be like comparing CS 1.6 to Source, or... actually better yet, comparing CS:S to CS:GO if source was FTP, essentially the same game at it's core yet the notion would get laughed at by anyone who actually plays them. (Although the differences between OW and TF2 are far greater than that.) Most TF2 players I know are playing overwatch, and the ones who aren't don't have a rig that can run non-source engine games well enough or they would be playing it. Trying to suggest it's not worth it's 39.99$ price tag because TF2 is free is so so weak.
The entire design philosophy is a direct continuation of the idea behind TF2. Overwatch is well crafted, but it's still just an iteration of the TF2 concept. Ah, here's the problem, your reading comprehension sucks. I did not say Overwatch is not worth the price of entry. I expressed my opinion that I would prefer to play TF2 for free instead of buying Overwatch.
For me? Overwatch is the only game worth playing right now. I freaking love it. I actually bought the $60 version and haven't regretted it at all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
As a former employee, they definitely were trying hard to get into competitive gaming. Overwatch though was really the fallout from their Titan project. I didn't see much of that, but almost everything I did is recycled in Overwatch. Frankly, it has always been my thought that after Activision acquired Bungie, they saw too much similarity between Destiny and Titan. Ended up Blizz having to scrap their product, with them trying to make lemonade from lemons. Anyway, if anyone is on the XBone, I am SurplusAgate94. Yay random name generation haha.
To each their own, man. The similarities stop at ‘Arena shooter with KOTH/Payload maps”. Bottom line is I have an immense amount of time invested in both games and they are worlds apart to me. Checkers and Chess. You may feel differently and that’s fine. Also I don’t think my reading comprehension sucks, it’s how you said it. When you say something on a forum as general/broad as “I don’t see the point of playing xyz”, you’re pretty much asking for a rebuttal. There are a ton of reasons why Overwatch is superior.
Im in the same boat and I bought the origin edition as well. I've even ponied up to buy some cases since blizzard knows how to fuel the gambling addiction fire
interesting stuff, what kind of things did you see that were recycled from project titan? Anything relevant in game currently? I had heard Overwatch was frankensteined from it.
Reaper, 76, Tracer and Reinhardt are pretty much carbon copied. Some of the environs are also recycled - just a fair amount of art and concepts in general. It definitely is the phoenix that rose from the grave of Titan. As for characters, I love Junkrat and also play a fair amount of roadhog, reaper and pharah. Will pop into Lucio or Mercy sometimes if healing is needed. Oddly on PC I looooooved Reinhardt, but he doesn't play as well on XBone imo.
Junkrat, Lucio, Symmetra, all of the tanks (especially Roadhog), and McCree. I don't fiddle with the offensive characters too much. I enjoy playing with Widowmaker and Mei on defense maps too.
Cool stuff. I'm not a console player but I often wonder how some of the heroes would be better/worse on the console version. I imagined some of them like Reinhardt being extra clunky. I'm almost always playing Widow, but I like Roadhog and Reaper a bunch.
OMG, I love Soldier 76, Rocket Chick, Road Hog, and the Turret guy. LOL, I don't have it up right now and I am too lazy to look up all their names.
Anyone play it on the PS4? I like it but I'd like to have some people to play with at times, pickup games are so hit and miss. Great game though, I like a lot of the different characters.
I just installed on PS4 yesterday. It's visually stunning. I mean I watched the youtube videos, but those don't do it justice. I'm Silver_Hornet13 But you may do better with a random stranger Especially if my son is playing instead of me.
My son plays on my account too, he can surprise you sometimes then turn around and get the entire team wiped lol.
Wasn't sure whether to post this here or in the Game Of Thrones thread... guess I'll do both.
