You almost wonder if all these reports of Durant being "blown away" by these meetings are just a constant reminder to the final team meeting with him that KD and his people are expecting a lot, so don't half-@ss it.

I wonder if we have a move in pocket to present to KD during the meeting, a Dragic trade or whatever that might bring back a piece

And I do wonder if part of the pitch isn't a scenario where we let Wade leave and fully turn the keys over to KD

With all the confidence the front office was showing I feel like they have something up their sleeves. Not sure what but I feel like there is a curveball here somewhere

No way the Heat should match this. Let Brooklyn pay a decent bench player 20 million a year in a couple seasons. Theres a reason that team is floundering. We will continue to develop the young guys we have. This FA has been rough on our depth and bench. Too much money flying around. Heat are getting pillaged.

wow tj really got 50 mil haha im not even mad about that good for him man

should just give wade a max 1 and 1 and try again next year after this season we should fully understand the bosh situation hopefully and can move forward. Team cant be competitive with 25% of your cap not playing.

I have no doubt that KD will be presented with a plan. Riley is all about winning and putting together the best team. That, along with how they'll individually make KD a better player will be the pitch. I don't agree with the idea that KD wants to be the man or the face of the franchise. I don't read that in his personality. And it's the opposite of what Riley preaches. KD will obviously end up the face as Wade ages, but I don't expect that KD or Riley are worried about that or will spend anytime talking about that.

Agreed. I like TJ, but that's a contract that'll put the team in a bind down the road. Being short-sighted just isn't a great long-term plan. And it's obvious that Riley always plans several years down the road. I'm happy for TJ. He has great timing.

I really don't get why so many Heat fans want Miami to match the Bumpy offer sheet. I really don't think he's very good.

Aldridge just tweeted that our meeting with KD has concluded. Not much of a meeting, more like a meet & greet. This offseason has been borderline catastrophic for Miami. KD hopefully heads back to OKC, if he goes to Boston, that hurts us in the East obviously.

Regardless of what happens with KD, I don't see our off-season as borderline catastrophic. I came into the off-season hoping we would re-sign Wade and Whiteside which i expect will happen. I saw KD as a long-shot. (We'll see what happens, but I don't put anymore stock in "not much of a meeting" than I did in "blown away"). My only disappointment this off-season is in losing Deng.

Losing Deng, JJ, Tyler possibly, nothing concrete on Bosh. Boston gaining Horford, Wade further souring on Riley, and if Riley doesnt snatch KD, his aura eroding a bit. I'd say thats a pretty crappy offseason. Getting Whiteside back was a nobrainer if he's getting the max.

I consider not signing our mid tier guys to oversize contracts a win not a loss.

I believe that it hurts the teams that do sign players to those contracts. Signing "good level" players to "great player level" contracts is a recipe for disaster.

Bumpy was supplanted by Josh Richardson already and hardly played during the second half of the season. Deng will be supplanted by Justise Winslow, which is how this stuff works when you manage to get a top NBA Draft talent. Bosh comes back. Joe Johnson was only in Miami because of Bosh's injury in the first place and they're not done with free agency yet so who knows if they can find a better version. The guy crapped the bed in the playoffs anyway. And I'll believe Wade is pissed at Riley, or whatever people are making up like they're running tabloid magazines, when I hear that from Wade.

You call that a disastrous off season? You're spoiled. The off season is an extension of the incredible work they have done uncovering a Hassan Whiteside out of nowhere and having him play Hall of Fame caliber ball, uncovering a Bumpy Johnson out of nowhere, uncovering a Josh Richardson with a throwaway draft pick and having a top draft talent fall in your lap and seeing him become an all-NBA defensive player as a 19 year old.

But obviously Riley is "losing it."

That being said i would love to hear more details about our meeting.

I'm told the meeting with LeBron was just as short. So really this all comes down to what the player has intended the whole time.

Looks like the KD meeting was about 2.5 hours, the LeBron meeting was just under 3.

No appreciable difference and doesn't matter anyway

By the way, the doom and gloom with Miami's offseason is pretty funny to me. Miami has lost a player that didn't play a whole lot in meaningful games, a guy who was only with the team for the end of the year and never really did what he was brought here to do, and a player who's only major impact came after Bosh went out.

On the other hand, they locked up a potential star long term and have a lot of time left to make smaller moves. Let's not forget how the players that left came here in the first place. TJ was a UDFA and JJ was a minimum signing. The Heat will be fine.
