Fernandez is now the leader in strikeouts... Really thought Kershaw was far away in the lead. Pretty nice.

I was going to post yesterday about James Shields and the White Sox yesterday but got so busy and completely forgot.. CWS was already making some noise but their pitching rotation after Sale is kind of meh. James Shields will definitely help them. Possibly a division winning team.

I think that the AL Central is a real toss up. We're a third of the way into the season, and the top four teams are all about equal contenders. A few more big trades could swing the power in one way or another. Should be interesting. As to the trade, the South Siders didn't exactly give up a lot to the Padres to get him, and San Diego is eating a lot of salary to boot. Certainly a step in the direction of becoming a buyer's market.

My mets are the walking wounded right now. Wright out God knows how long, D Arnaud out at least a few more weeks, Duda out another month, Cespedes and Lagares day to day...no offense yesterday against a great pitcher.

The good news....Harvey looks to be close to be back to normal. 1 ER the last 14 ip. He's used to losing 1-0 or 2-1 games most of his career lol.

Yeah, they've just been obliterated by injuries. Their pitching should keep them afloat as long as Washington doesn't go on a tear and get way ahead.

No, the poor guy has had his career derailed. Its too bad, because he was one of my favorite players when he came up. Awesome player from 2005-2008, then a big down year in 09 but bounced back with a great 2010. But after missing 60 games in 2011, he was never the same again. I feel for him, because he seems to be a good guy who plays hard. I think he was on the train to the HOF, but thats not going to happen now.

The Cubs are 43-19 after 62 games played (with exactly 100 left). If they were to simply play .500 ball the rest of the way, their 93 wins would be tied for the 4th most in club history since 1945, the last time they went to the WS. They need to go 57-43 to get to 100 wins for the first time since 1935 (when they also went to the WS). If they continue their pace of .694, they would finish with 112 wins, which would be the highest total in the NL since the Cubs set the record themselves with 116 in 1906. The most since 1910 is 108, by the 75 Reds and 86 Mets. The team won 97 games last season, and hasn't finished with 90+ wins in back to back years since 1929/30.

Never a good thing when 5 of your 8 starting position players are hurt or day to day. The mets lineup is like the walking wounded...
Darnaud is out another week and has been out a month already.
    Wright is contemplating neck surgery
Duda is out for another month after back surgery.
    Walker is day to day
Lagares has ligament issues with his thumb
    Cabrera is day to day.

I'm honestly not sure how rare a stat this is for other clubs. I know there's usually one or two teams who win their division by double digits most years. But for the Cubs, its obviously been a long time coming. We'll see how much more room they can put between themselves and the rest of the division.

Really solid 4-5 starter type. Cubs were rumored to be interested in the offseason. He's gotten slightly better each year he's been in the bigs too. I have to hand it to the Marlins, they're totally in the thick of things for the WC.

They're really dinged with minor injuries. Guys hurt all over the place. Certainly the roughest stretch of the season by far. Thankfully, everyone will be back before long. Its a good thing they got off to such a hot start though.

Jose Fernandez pinched hit at the Top of the 12th inning, hit a 2 run go-ahead double to win the game lol. Guy is delivering wins without pitching.

Congrats to you guys who are Mets fans. After the Cubs bullpen imploded late in the first game of the series, you guys just owned us the rest of the way. It was beyond ugly. The Cubs have played like crap for two weeks. I'm hoping they can get it back together over the break and start the second half strong.

Seems like we can beat the Cubs with our pitching but nothing can silence Revenge of the Murphy vs NYM. Guy has like 20 RBI and 5 or 6 homers against the Mets already this year....Guess Kevin Long really helped Murphy hit for power a little too well last season. So I guess what Im saying is....Can we play the Cubs some more? Id rather take my chances with Bryant (even though hes from another planet) and Rizzo, then Daniel freaking Murphy.

Marlins advertised next ticket purchase 1% off per HR hit by Stanton in the HR derby.. Now theyre backtracking because it would be 61% off.. lol theyre telling fans the most they can do is 25% off... which you can get from some ticket scalper lol..

Yeah, he started changing his swing late last year. He's always been a level swing line drive type hitter but late in the year you saw him pulling the ball more and while the results weren't always tangible you could see the change. Now he's kind of staying level but he's hitting more for power then he ever has. If his defense wasn't so awful, I'd be furious NYM let him walk.

Badly needed trade for the Cubs, who have a lot of bullpen problems, and especially needed a LHP. Volgebach, who they traded away, is a very interesting case. Literally from the moment he was drafted in the second round in 2011, Cubs fans have looked at him not as a potential player for our own team, but as a guy who we hoped would develop so that we could trade him, because he's so limited on defense that he's likely limited to DH only. Great power and a good eye, and I'm curious to see him play with Seattle. Seems like a great kid.

they are not allowed to offer any more than 25% off any ticket due to a clause in the CBA and MLB rules. However, I did read they are trying to work out a one time deal with MLB to offer a limited amount of tickets at the 61% off. I hate the ownership of the Marlins too, but their hands are really tied.

They really should have noted the 25% cap then, because I think it was a pretty good bet that Stanton would exceed that.

There have been other things that contributed to their losing streak before the break (especially the bullpen), but Fowler has been very important to the club, and they're lucky he came back after rejecting offers elsewhere.

This situation with Chris Sale keeps getting weirder. Now, apparently the root of his tantrum today was that he didn't want to wear throwback uniforms. The White Sox clubhouse is full of spoiled toddlers, it seems.

Multiple sources all over baseball now confirm that the Cubs have acquired closer Aroldis Chapman from the Yankees, and that the deal is now done. The Yankees get back the Cubs top prospect, SS Gyleber Torres, RP Adam Warren (who the Cubs had gotten from the Yankees this past offseason for Starlin Castro, AA OF Billy McKinney (who was once a top prospect, but has fallen off), and one more minor leaguer to be named.

Its a big haul to give NY for two months + the post season for a RP, but the pen has been a dire need for the Cubs, who otherwise have their best team in....well, almost anyone's lifetime and are going for it. I'm relieved that they didn't include Kyle Schwarber (who I want to keep around) or Jorge Soler (who I hope they can trade for a SP in the offseason). Torres was blocked well into the future in Chicago, so he was always more of a trade chip than someone the Cubs expected to play at Wrigley.

Chapman will almost certainly take over the closer role from Hector Rondon, who's pitched pretty well, and he'll move into the 8th inning role for the Cubs, while Pedro Strop and newly acquired Mike Montgomery will split other high leverage roles depending on the situation.

Cost for RPers is pretty high I guess. Any team on the bubble that has good RPers should be sellers right now.

Boston needs to figure out their bullpen. Yesterday, almost blowing an 8-2 lead. Matt Barnes can't be your guy in the 7th/8th of a playoff game.

I'd have rather gotten Miller for the Cubs! There were rumors last night that he and Soler were also involved in a HUGE trade between the teams. I guess someone backed down from there.

Its a good thing that they're the highest scoring team in MLB by far! It seems that every time I see a highlight, they're scoring 8+ runs. The Cubs have the 4th most runs in MLB, but the Redsox have outscored them by 53.

I think Theo still has one card to play.. Always thought Schwarber ( spelling?) Was being held for another #1 pitcher and hey look Sale might be out there.
