    http://www.nfl.com/videos/miami-dolphins/0ap3000000704926/Ryan-Tannehill-Every-throw-from-Week-2

Watch this video all the way through. Forget all your preconceived notions, put it in a vacuum, forget everything else, forget that this is even the Miami Dolphins and tell me what you see.

I'll tell you what I see.

Some plays that seemed destined to fail in the first couple of series. The opposing team seemed to know exactly what was coming. I see a QB who didn't have a chance to make plays in the first minutes of the game before the scoreboard went up 21-0.

Looks like his teammates let him down a couple of times in the first half, dropping passes, fumbling the ball and even snapping at the wrong time. Seems to be miscommunication between the QB and the receivers throughout the first half.

Bad decision at the end of the first half, throwing an ill advised pass off his back foot straight into the LB.

Now I see some good pocket awareness and unscripted runs. Quick throws and good decision making.

Again, some good pocket awareness, evading sacks and completing 3rd down conversions. I see overall good pass protection, giving the QB time to scan the field and throw some accurate passes.

Now I see some aggressive and accurate intermediate- deep throws. I see a QB who is going through his reads, getting to his 3rd read quite often.

I see a very decisive QB who can stand tall in the pocket and throw a dart or run for yards when there's nothing there. Another tough run, lowering his shoulder at the end.

Time running out, I see some good throws, but good coverage, they fell incomplete.

Well, overall I see a good QB. First half he made a poor decision that led to an interception, but other than that, this QB had a hell of a game.

Now, let's open up the spectrum and compare this game to RT's past performances.

I think this is one of the best games he has ever played. I'm not a QB expert, but I see enormous growth compared to his past performances. I think the proverbial light is finally turning on for him. He showed everything we've always asked of him. Great pocket awareness, unscripted runs, good overall decision making, accurate deep throwing, good command of the offense rallying everyone in the no-huddle.

Wow, honestly, if Tannehill can have this type of game on a consistent basis and our defense can play at an AVERAGE level, we will compete, I promise you that.

Now I urge you to do the same exercise. Watch this video OBJECTIVELY, forget everything you know about this QB and this team, throw out the #QBWINZ arguments and tell me what you see.

Miami needs to run the offense, but somehow attempt to run out of it too

What that video doesn't show is what was happening when our defense was on the field, and it's something that I've never seen before with Tannehill at the helm. All the skill players were gathering on the bench and talking about the routes they just ran, what others were seeing and potential weaknesses, and then there Tannehill was in Gase's ear discussing the upcoming series. I saw this happen on at least four drives for the Pats.....but we don't exactly have 24/7 views of the sidelines either. So I was very impressed that the offense is coming together at a steam and I believe that's where all those beautiful drives came from as well....actual teamwork. (what a strange concept for Miami...)

I have been on the fence with Tannehill for five years now and often leaning towards the "send the bum packing" side of the conversation. But I've always wondered as well if the offensive play-calling was helping him or hurting....and it was pretty darn obvious yesterday that he can throw accurate footballs all day long. We honestly looked like we could have scored on every second half drive but someone else kept coughing up the ball, and we darn near tied anyway (if Parker would have went up for the ball like the last play was designed for). I honestly saw almost nothing but positive from Tannehill though in that second half, and I still believe that we will be blowing out some teams this season once we get out of this ugly first month.

Other than the lack of a quality RB, the offense isn't the problem with this team. If Garroppolo had not been injured, the Patriots would have probably score 50 points yesterday. The Dolphins have a bottom tier defense.

They probably have the worst LB unit in the NFL and their secondary is below average. The DL, which is suppose to be the strength of the defense is average at best.

While I think the offense will continue to improve as the season progresses. There just aren't enough playmakers on the defensive side of the ball and the Dolphins will be lucky to win 6 games this years because of this very poor defense.

I wonder if that INT he was going to dump it off to Ajayi....but his arm got hit before he could follow through with the ball. Ajayi is wide open...

Looking at the glass half full kind of approach, I think you look at the Seattle game, you see a solid defense. Granted Seattle's O struggled yesterday too, but against a solid LA defense. However, our D was still very strong. We saw one really solid drive against Seattle from our offense in the second half, and another 7 points dropped by Kenny Stills, both of which should have won us that game.

Now look at yesterday, terrible start. There's no way around that. However the adjustments came on the offensive side, and in the second half it was a pretty impressive showing for an offense that can't run the ball. However the defense struggled.

So we've seen two up and down performances from both sides of the ball now after two games. Lets also remember that most of us probably chalked up these first two games as losses when the schedule came out anyways. We had chances to win both. I think we should also keep in mind, new staff, new systems, lots of new players on that defense, and our OL as well.

Like I said, from the glass half full perspective... There's a pretty good chance that we get things put together all the way around and start having solid performances. One thing that absolutely has to change though... We need to be able to run the ball. Pass pro has improved, it's still not great, but this OL still is struggling bigtime with run blocking.

I definitely saw the Patriots OL holding and even tackling our pass rushers all game long. And that, to me, was the absolute biggest factor in the first half in giving up the 21 points. Guarantee they stole at least 3 sacks from us. That luxury was not reciprocated to the Dolphins O line.

Watching that throw to Devante Parker... Man... Parker really blows that play. He's backpeddling for some strange reason way, way, way too early which really gave him no chance to even jump for that ball. There's nothing wrong with that throw. Sure, it *looks* overthrown, but that's because of what Parker starts doing before getting himself into the endzone. If he'd just kept running, he likely easily had that ball to force OT, or give Gase a chance to channel his inner Del Rio.

Nah. They showed a view from behind and he was clearly looking at him the entire time. With a little better blocking, that is still a really tight window/throw, but he made those all game. Not sure it's picked, but not sure it's caught either.

Ajayi was open on that play. Only thing you'd have liked to seen better, outside the obvious...no INT, was better protection, and maybe Tannehill rolling out to the right, rather than just back up in the pocket, which he can do from time to time.

That was really one of the very few demerits on his day. Very, very good day from him. That 2nd half was nuts.

I'm not sure he catches it, but he no doubt has a better opportunity to catch it than what he did.

He can go up and get the ball when it's underthrown, but he's not as apt when the ball is in front of him. That's where guys like Steve Smith Sr., Fitzgerald, Antonio Brown, Beckham, Calvin Johnson, Dez were so special. They literally coined that phrase "attacking the football".

Time and time again Tannehill keeps getting streaks of 12 - 15 - 18 completed throws in a row and I think yesterday he was 20 of 21 in the second half at one point.

    Agreed.

I think he'd have had that ball had he played it better. He would have had positional, and height advantage over the CB who made the pick IMO. Plenty of room to come down in bounds too. He essentially took himself out of the play by the looks of things. I'm not sure what he was thinking. Hell, for all we know, maybe he completely lost the ball, or just couldn't find/track it and just got all discombobulated. Either way, it is what it is now.

Maybe he comes down with it, but I thought the ball placement gave him a chance.

I think a special player/WR comes down with that ball. Really, really tough catch with the given situation, traffic, endzone, back line/OOB, and the ball not perfectly placed. But, if Calvin Johnson is there, if that is A.J. Green, or Larry Fitzgerald had gotten traded to Miami and that was his target, then they're coming down with that football.

I don't look at it as Parker messing it up. I mean, the ball is more than likely not intercepted, I feel good saying that. But, it was just a tough play that a special player probably could have come down with.

Maybe it's the angle of the camera, but it looks like Tannehill misses a wide open Dion Sims sitting on his route in the EZ before the half. Other than that, he looked good by in large. The dysfunction of the offense in the first half had little to do with him (although that INT to Collins was brutal).

It's a make-or-miss league as I have been saying elsewhere, just like basketball.

In the first half they punt four times in a row. Why?

First drive because Tannehill throws a high ball to Jordan Cameron in zone and asks his big tight end to go up and secure the catch from a zone defender closing on him. Cameron got his hands on the football but didn't do it. If that's a smallish wide receiver, OK maybe that doesn't make a ton of sense. But it's not. It's a 6'5" and 260 lbs tight end. This is your role in the offense. Conversions on 3rd & 7 don't just grow on trees, especially not when the defense drops 8 into coverage like they did. You've got to earn it. Make. Or miss. Cameron missed. Punt.

Next drive Tannehill makes a good scramble on 2nd & 5, but when he dives to the ground he doesn't quite get to the sticks, and Adam Gase has the offense on an alert for these 3rd & Short situations to hurry it up and QB Sneak it. They do just that and completely lose the line of scrimmage, Tannehill can't punch the ball beyond the sticks. The ball is still firmly on their side of the field, so they have to punt. Make. Or miss. They missed.

Following drive, Arian Foster gets only 1 yard on 1st down which already puts them behind schedule. They get another 4 yards on a set play to Kenyan Drake. Then on 3rd & 5, Tannehill tries to take advantage of what was, I'm sure, a positively identified mismatch between Jordan Cameron and Patrick Chung in man coverage. The fact Devante Parker fell down on his underneath crosser route where he would've been open MAY have induced Tannehill to check over to Cameron, but that's unclear. Either way Tannehill throws to Cameron, who wasn't open, and Tannehill missed it anyway, and his next best option (the one that could've converted) was on the ground instead of setting up for a catch. Miss miss miss. Misses all around.

Then just when they had something going on a drive, Anthony Steen decides to snap it early and they lose 20 yards on a 3rd down. Even if Devante Parker had caught that lob for a big play (he should have, it's in his wheelhouse), Steen's botched snap would have killed the drive. There's nothing you can do about that.

Just like Jarvis Landry's fumble would kill a drive no matter what. Nothing you can do.

Just like Ryan Tannehill's subsequent interception would kill a drive.

And when Ryan Tannehill throws you a nice pass in the end zone off a tough scramble, and this is exactly the type of catch that's supposed to be in your wheelhouse as a high 1st rounder...you've got to catch it. Make. Or miss.

Parker was expecting the ball where he was, which was open, QB17 overthrows the ball right into double coverage.

Parker could have played it better, but he was set up where he was and was probably wondering why the ball was so deep.

Ball was definitely too deep. It's just more par for the course though ......Stinker first half, then Ryan starts to flash in the second half. We had momentum, especially after he trucked that DB. Then he tosses an ugly duck into the far corner of the endzone. The ball needs to be dropping down earlier because Parker had space. #inconsistency

I watched all his throws on NFL.com again, the Pats rarely had anymore than four men at the POA after the Jimmy G injury. They stunted a few times towards the end of the second quarter and beginning of the third ..... on occasion rushed five. Pretty much all of the fourth quarter had 7 guys dropping back into a zone. Because of this, Ryan had more room to maneuver around and open up passing lanes.

A lot of his passes were crisp, but he also had about 4-5 balls he was forcing into bracketed coverage - one of which I got away with on the Cameron TD. To his credit he overcame a pathetic first half, but at the same time he was a benefactor of the Patriots scheme - which was basically protecting a lead. Matt Patricia was calling a much more aggressive game when Garapolo was putting points on the board. I swear, even though they were bringing four guys for the latter part of the game, it was never consistently the same four. Would like to see the Dolphins incorporate something similar.

All I needed to see from Tannehill was that TD pass to Cameron. That was a laser beam fired right between 2 defenders where only his guy could catch it, and despite his history, he did!

That throw cannot be coached, either you have it or you don't.

Only a select few QBs can make that throw. Thankfully we have one of them!

If you're talking about the final hail mary then I apologize but that is a completely made up narrative that comes from nowhere and has zero football validity. It's a virtual hail mary and Tannehill is throwing it to a spot based on coverage. His receiver has to got to get there and play the ball. Parker didn't execute, but we can give him a break since it was an extremely low percentage shot in the dark and it would've been a hell of a play if he had executed. That's all there is to say about that.

You don't throw hail mary's to the far back corner of the endzone, that's for fade routes. WR's need space to elevate to go get it.

Thank you. Parker starting backpeddaling early. That ball is thrown over the front defender and in front of the guy that picked it off. If Parker continues to run and goes up for the ball, he's in pretty good position to make the play. It happens, though on those types of plays. Not anything worth really making a big deal out of.

Virtual hail mary, too close for actual hail mary. There were 15 seconds left in the game and they needed a touchdown to win. It can't be an actual hail mary because they're on the 30 yard line. Tannehill is aiming for a spot toward the back of the end zone because Parker is supposed to go up and elevate for it, pluck the ball out of the sky before it can get to the back of the end zone. The ball's landing point is supposed to be deeper specifically so that Parker can go up and get it at its highest point. But first off Parker didn't run the route very well with a very good understanding of his role on the play, and then he just didn't play the ball very well.

That this is even an issue is amazing to me and reminds me of when Tannehill threw that ball directly and perfectly to Jordan Cameron's hands and people were like that ball was too...umm...too good...or something like that I can't remember what the completely ridiculous hot take was.

You're twisting words. The talk about the Cameron TD is because he fired the ball into airtight "keyhole" double coverage ...... as Trent Green said. He got away with it because he has that kind of arm, but it's a dangerous pass - just like the 4-5 other balls he was trying to connect where the receiver was bracketed. It's one of those passes that has you going "No, no no ........ hell yeah TD!".

Parker turned his head to track the ball and saw it sailing well beyond him. Even with his length he could not have come down with it and the DB already had that area covered as he was sitting back and watching Tanny. Again, if Tanny is going to throw to a spot it's gotta be the front-middle part of the endzone to give Parker a better chance to out elevate everyone.

That final series got sloppy in hurry after he Tanny trucked that defender. A forced throw to a double covered Stills and then the end pass with too much air under it.

No I'm talking about the slant to Jordan Cameron in the preseason that Cameron dropped. A contingent (some of the same as in here I think) came out saying that Tannehill somehow misplaced that ball or threw it too hard or something like that and it was one of the more ridiculous things I've seen. I think this one ranks up there though.

As for the "forced throw to a double covered Stills" I mean this is getting comical. That was a tough throw to place and the window was small but what the hell situation do you think the Dolphins were in for at that point? A leisurely stroll through the park? LMAO. If you're not taking some chances trying to hit perfect passes, you're accepting the loss. Might as well just go in the locker room and ask the refs to let the clock run out.

Yeah, they've got like 20-30 seconds left in the game (again) and they need to get the ball down the field against an opponent that knows it's coming (again) and so he's trying to drop it into the bucket. With that Stills pass he came inches away from that being a pretty incredible completion. Actually if that were Parker instead of Stills it's probably complete.

I'm good on this topic. I've said my peace. Everyone has a right to be wrong.

I don't remember seeing the play so I can't comment.

Now you're just making excuses for a bad pass ...... one which he telegraphed by staring Stills down the whole time with three defenders in the area. He had 1-on-1 coverage to the left with a streaking Parker running an out route. Stills would've gotten obliterated had the pass been completed.

He said a virtual hail Mary... Not a literal one. Meaning it was a low percentage.. Throw it to a spot where a big tall receiver has a chance to go up and make a play on the ball. That's exactly where the ball was placed..
