I still say the atrocious line play is a huge part of the problem. But he needs to be aware that they suck and get rid of the ball faster. I still think he can play in the NFL, but not without a better supporting cast. And that's not here. And won't be for many years, we have way too many crappy players that need replaced. I won't be a doomsayer like most here, but I'm a realist. And he isn't going to win here.

But nobody will for years, so it's all moot.

    Thanks Ross and Tannenbaum.

This is what ive been saying for a while. I love Tannehill as a person, hes tough as ****, hard worker, very talented, but he doesn't have it upstairs to be successful without a really good supporting cast. And for me, that is not the type of QB you build around. Sure, if you have a great supporting cast and someone like Tannehill comes around, you take him. But you have to continue to search for the a QB that can carry a team. Because that sets up team for long term success.

Welcome to the club. I was done with him last year. The constant throwing behind our receivers, no pocket awareness...... it became too much.

It's easy to say get rid of the ball sooner. There's also intentional grounding.

Well, I see one receiver with his head already turned back towards the quarterback (just beyond the horribly beaten tackle) and a second receiver making his cut. Both are open. So RT should at a minimum be able to throw it away. What happened on the play?

I'm not dismissing your point. The pass blocking really was awful last night. But quarterbacking, like pimping, ain't easy. That's why QBs make so much money.

    So CAL

Watch any game and you will see a play like this, some how 80%of every other teams qb’s would have hit RB out the backfield cutting acrosshis face or somehow rolled to their right and escaped. Tannehill will onlythrow if someone is wide open, and asthey say no one in the NFL is open you have to throw them open.

I agree with pretty much all of this. Pass blocking was so bad last night. Unfortunately, so was the quarterback.

Fifteen years ago I was a big Fiedler defender for pretty much the same reason you've felt like you needed to defend RT -- it seemed to me like some people, when they talked about what was wrong with the team, just focused on the QB and forgot everything else. But because I fought so much, I got really dug in and wound up defending him beyond what made sense.

(To be clear, RT has much bigger upside than Fiedler, just on the grounds of durability and size and arm strength. So defending RT is more sensible than defending Fiedler was.)

Good eye. I didn't even see the TE. I just don't understand why, knowing the OL woes, isn't there a hot route built into every play?

Hahaha James was wide *** open for that play!

I remember that play and saw the replay and thought someone was on the wrong page. It really looked like James was expecting a screen and waited at the line for the pass so he could block for it. James was even looking back and waiting, like "wtf?".

Toss it ti 32 hes open across the middle for 4-5! Teams do this to US every drive!!!!! Ryan has to react quicker Tom Brady, Big Ben, Russel, Brees, Rodgers all make that completion. Ryan is good when he has time. Teams just rush us and we cant react! Ryan has to be better!! Plays are there

The only way that happens is if that's the first read, cause he has no time for a 2nd. Could Tannehill have found drake on this play? Maybe. But they were sending 4 against our 5. Suffice it to say Tannehill thought he might get 3 seconds.

If he's guilty of anything after all these years, it's that he somehow still trusts his oline

One thing I'm amazed by is how often Tannehill's passes get batted down at the LOS, he has to hold some type of record for this since 2012, anyone know this?

It's really not that easy. One, Drake is just making a cut, not even looking for the ball yet. Two, the DT is coming right at RT in the throwing lane and likely bats down that ball. It's easy to say all that from a still frame, but lets remember, this is probably around 1.5 seconds after the snap if I had to guess. It's just not that simple.

I think you are correct. I zoomed in on the photo and it looks like James is still in his stance. Oh my. If Tannehill is the answer, the question must be - What QB is least likely to survive the season?

Um, yeah, his head isn't around #1. #2 you have no idea where in his route he's supposed to be looking for the ball anyway. This is not sandlot. I don't think enough people understand that.

Hard to get stats on that, but at least in 2014 it seems like he had the most with 19 and was 3rd on the list percentage-wise with 3.2%:
    http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2015/2014-incomplete-pass-breakdown-passers

Anyway, while it's possible some of that is due to the OL, I think you see way too many passes batted down at the LOS where Tannehill has a decent pocket. It has to be that he's telegraphing his throw more than the average starting QB.

It has to be, because why? Not trying to be snarky, but, honestly, that's not necessarily a good deduction. The oline certainly is part of the problem, as they need to do a better job at engaging and keeping defensive players from getting their arms up. Certainly, Tannehill has to have a part also, on batted balls like the one where the defender simply backed up from olineman, and waited for the throw...yet, again, the oline needs to be attacking that guy, not allowing him to simply stand and wait for the ball.

Ryan had good protection overall for 2 1/2 quarters. His issues go far beyond protection.

D-linesmen will get their hands up. Question is timing. If you have a decent pocket the primary driver of batted balls should be how much you telegraph when you throw. Yeah I think it's a good deduction.

To be clear. I still think Tannehill can play. Our team is so bad in other areas he won't win here.

    And that is on TannenBUM.

My buddy is a Broncos fan and knows a ton more about football than most, he said we have the worst O line he has ever seen.

And Tannehill has had that his whole career. He never had a chance to be good.

Look, there is no doubt the center and right side of the line caved in. But at this stage in the game Ryan should have a pretty good idea of who isn't holding up very well up there and have a contingent plan ........ which comes with "feeling" the pocket.

He's got two guys he could attempt to quickly whip the ball out to, but for whatever reason he's fixated on one spot, which happens to be Landry whom he force feeds alot. I don't even know why he considered that side of the field given the coverage.

Lots of blame to go 'round on that play - mostly the the O-line ..... but for f- suck take what the D is giving you and get rid of the ball!!!
