Jets are a top 5 run defense and a bottom 5 pass defense. Baltimore had 6 yards rushing, but Mike Wallace had a field day. Will be a test and a stout challenge, but Miami gets to rest and prepare

You make some really good points. The coaches are going to have to study the Jets and figure out a good game plan. They've been good vs the run in six of their seven games this season, but they did give up 171 vs Arizona the week before. I think that the game plan is going to need to be balanced, and take advantage of whatever holes are there to be had.

I made another post where I did some research and found that over the last 16 seasons, the Dolphins have come out of the bye and run the ball well in almost every single game, regardless of how good that Miami team was and almost regardless of opponent. I believe 135 yards per game over those 16 years. The extra week of rest is huge in that regard, and the Jets have to go on the road and play while Miami gets to stay home and rest. Hopefully, it will also be hot and sunny that afternoon, which will help wear them out.

I hope they DON'T change the formula. Pound the ball down their throats. Ride the hot hand.

Don't change until its not working.

If I was a HC that message would be painted in giant letters in each of my coordinators offices. I feel like young coordinators need to learn that lesson.

I still say I like a young and innovative OC and an old and grizzled DC that has seen everything.

You stay with our new found offensive identity. Run the darn ball and keep hammering them with it. When the opportunity presents itself you run a play action pass and drop it right over their heads.

IMO the "formula" is balance. That should continue. Obviously it will be game flow/situation dependent, but you want to shoot for 50/50. I'd prefer that Ajayi not have more than 25 carries per game going forward. I'm hoping he's closer to 20 and that some of the back-ups play well enough to siphon off a few carries.

Against the Jets, regardless of how good their run D we need to keep our attempts up. If they're focused on stopping the run then hopefully the big plays will come out of the passing game. That's the magic of an effective run game vs. what we've had. You need some big plays. Whether they come out of the run or pass is irrelevant. But if the D is spending the whole game guessing as to which you'll do next, then the odds of a big play out of either avenue increases.

I like the Belicheck formula. Be good enough at everything that all options are always on the table.

So far this year the offense hasn't really hit on all cylinders for a game. Tannehill has had some good halves. Ajayi has been a beast for the last 2 games. But we haven't had a game where the offense has been in synch for a full game.

I'll be very interested to see what the phins can do fpr the rest of the year. Opposing Ds should be keying Ajayi and that should give Tannehill and the WRs room to work. and if opposing Ds swing back to pass defense we should rock Ajayi out for some more fun. That's the design of this offense, but it took far too long for the ground game to show up.

Another very important factor that is undermentioned is that the D has showed up in the last 2 games. Like the offense it hasn't really had everything come together for a dominant game yet, but it seems to be turning a corner too.

Gotta keep pounding the rock.. in the end our run blocking is superior over our pass blocking.. cant let tannehill dropback 35-40 times it has erratic results with this line..

We have to keep that balance, Tannehill has improved quite a bit the past two weeks with this formula.

Geno Smith apparently done with an ACL injury. Meanwhile, Fitz is calling out his own owner and coaches publicly. This team is about to implode, and i would be great to see a total beat down in two weeks in Miami. I think that as long as we play it smart either way, they'll defeat themselves.

Adam Gase said in his press conference today that the o-line came to him during the Steelers game and told him to keep calling run plays and that they will keep Tannehill clean when they have to pass. Gase reacted accordingly and the success is well known. He praised Pouncey for his leadership and ability to speak up and said Branden Albert was right there with him.

So basically, if Pouncey and Albert are telling him to run the ball against The Jets, I think we will run the ball against The Jets. Gase even said, he will work on trying to disguise the runs more, during the bye week, but "NFL defense know what we are trying to do".

The fun comes on if and when they bite hard on a play action and Tannehill is able to find Stills/Parker down the field.

Matchups should dictate how we play any team, but I think we'd be fools not to make any team prove to us they can stop the run first.

The run defense rankings are the most BS rankings. There's like a 25-30 yd difference between top to bottom. It never takes context, matchups or amount of carries into account.

I think we'll try to run early but the jets defense will sell out to stop the run. Any team would do that after the last two ajayi performances. Once we realize they are selling out we will go to a play action passing attack for the rest of tje game. This will be a passing game for us

I meant per game, but that's still over 50 per game. Damn, under 75 per game. Only Green Bay is better per game. Don't want to dig up the amount or figure out the context

I'm going to have to look up the last two weeks between the two and compare. We have been pretty strong against the run the last 2 weeks. Mainly because we have dominated the T.O.P. battle.

    Before then we were ****e!

I think this is it. The real test is about to start, bc opposing DCs will be all over the film of the last two weeks. You could speculate that the Bills prepared as if the Ajayi Steeler game was an aberration. We hadn't featured that stretch cutback power game all season before Pittsburgh and they probably expected their NFL leading rush defense could handle it. You can bet the Jets will be ready and that the backside LB or Safety will be looking to fill that cutback hole with a head of steam. The play action post to Stills and Parker will be the checkmate move if the boys can execute and make them pay.

First play from scrimmage better be play action, Norv Turner as a coordinator was always great at calling play action passes when the defense was heavily expecting a run

Yeah, I think the Bills tried this a little and Ajayi just broke some tackles. Gase mentioned that it's tough to go play-action when your guy is burning off 7-8 yds a clip and putting your team in 2nd/3rd and manageables. Though he did show a little smile when asked. Admitted that he does like the idea of it.

While it makes sense, Miami tried it a few times last game. Wasn't really successful at it. It's a pretty low-percentage play. Ryan got away with a couple of passes, too.

While I don't think Ajayi has another couple of weeks like this, I am VERY PLEASED that Miami has a bye. This team, esp. Ajayi, needs a rest. They also could use that extra time to continue improving this offense. Stills stepped it up. Parker looks like he's still thinking too much rather than playing. He's not aggressive at the ball. Not like the end of last year. I'm not sure that play-action to Parker is something that would be bear fruit right now with regularity.

The other interesting twist off feeding the power stretch is to throw in the change up with Kenyan Drake and his speed to the edge. Or the reverse to Landry when they all bite hard. I think Gase mentioned something to that effect when they drafted Drake. Giving the offense a few different cards to play to keep defenses off balance.

I certainly would like to see Drake in there, but he's not earning playing time with his ST play. Probably lost a little time on one boneheaded play on STs (maybe against the Titans?) when he shined his *** to the coaches on the sidelines after a penalty. And he's not in there enough to really just have him in there for one special play. I think the D could key in on that. You'd have to have him in on some basic run plays before trying anything like that. This takes away from Williams who has shown that he is becoming valuable in the backup role.

I think Drake could be better used in the short passing game in space in certain situations as a 2nd/3rd option and let him make plays that way.

Miami is on tape. They will have to have wrinkles, which includes effective play action fakes
