    Sicario.

Came away underwhelmed. None of the characters were fleshed out and I was hard pressed to find any use for Emily Blunt's character.

Saw Suicide late last night. Enjoyed it quite a bit.
Pluses: Jared Leto was a good joker. Fun movie. most of the suicide squad cast was very entertaining. Loved El Diablo in the end.
Minuses: Thought the main baddie was a little lame. Capt Boomerang added very little value.

Watched Oblivion with Tom Cruise today. It was not what I expected at all. Also very slow and minimalist for much of the film. Worth watching though.

Bone Tomahawk: Western/Horror. A clan of inbred cannibal Indians, kidnap members of an old west town. A sheriff and 3 companions journey to bring them home. Pretty decent movie. It's a slow burner, but the buildup isn't too bad if you're into westerns. Great acting too. Stars Kurt Russell, Matthew Fox, Lili Simmons, etc... The movie reminded me a lot of that X-Files episode, "Home." If you've never seen that episode, it's an absolute classic. Similar story, similar villains. The horror aspect is somewhat light, in terms of overall presentation. More the beginning and ending.
It's not great, but it's a solid watch.

Saw Suicide Squad last night. I must say I went in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. I liked it.

I would say wait for video unless you are going to late night screening full of people and are drinking.

I got a few laughs, however it just did not grab me. The story is O.K. It is a much better story than Suicide Squad, since the characters motivations made sense, the story flowed, and it wasn't two movies mashed into one.

If you dislike religion the chances of you liking this movie increases. It is basically Toy Story, but with food and the theme being religion, pros and mostly cons.

My wife and I both laughed really hard when we saw the trailer, but agreed that it was something we'd catch much later on.

I was thinking about watching The Lobster. I can't stand Colin Ferrell in action movies, but I enjoy him in comedy (In Bruges, 7 psychopaths, etc...). And I liked him in True Detective, despite the season not being great. Could either of you explain what you liked/didn't like about it?

Little bit of Darwinism going on. The movie takes place in a dystopian fantasy future where everyone essentially has Asperger's as a result of years of living in a de-socialized society [thanks to Facebook, Twitter, and so forth]. Its intentional awkwardness of human interaction & communication is fairly amusing.... and yet painful to watch at times. I found the movie original, well done, and well acted. This is a completely different Colin Ferrell than what we're accustomed to. Rachel Weisz was strong as well. If you like the Indie stuff Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or Being John Malkovich, then this might be up your alley.

I liked it. I enjoyed the dry humor. I'd love to see the outtakes. I don't know how any of them could of kept a straight face with some of the dialog.

Finally got to see Zootopia. I enjoyed it. The voice acting and animation were top notch, and the story was well done, and in such a way that it wasn't obvious what was going to happen. That all being said, I don't get all of the acclaim that its gotten for being a special or overly meaningful movie. It made good points, and in some clever ways, but honestly (as someone who has two small kids and watches a ton of animated movies), I don't see it as overly memorable. Perhaps its a side effect of reading and hearing so much about it beforehand, but I found all the hype to be overrated.

I did find it very interesting that for a long time in the film's production, it was supposed to be a very different movie that centered around Nick, instead of Judy, and that they ended up switching up a good bit of the animation resources, while making the roles for some characters much smaller, and others a bit bigger, and this added about six months to the production time. I'd have been very interested to see the original story.

I enjoyed it, but I agree that I wouldn't classify it as overly special or a "classic" like some of the Pixar movies. I wasn't in a rush to watch it a 2nd time after buying it for my wife's daycare

Sully- It was ok, It had its moments, A look at what transpired during the bird strike. How he managed to guide the plane
into the Hudson calmly was great to see, Tom Hanks nailed it. Not the best work of Clint Eastwood though, 1st collaboration with Hanks.

I watched Edge of Tomorrow with Tom Cruise a few days ago, and thought that it was pretty good. Certainly better than Oblivion, which I watched last month. I thought that Emily Blunt was good in her role, and her Buster Sword was a cool touch. The film is intentionally repetative, and I was worried that might bog down and make sections a chore to get through, but that never really happened.

My main complaint, which has been happening a lot with today's sci fi movies, is that they never gave enough back story and filled the viewer in on what was happening and why. This one was better than some others, but it still wasn't enough, and in this case that wasn't ever a plot device, as the characters were all well aware of what was going on in the world around them. For me, its extremely frustrating to be dropped into a situation that takes place in the future, and never really have it explained how things got to be the way that they are. Leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.

Watched Devil's Pass (2013) on Hulu. Subtle horror flick about the mystery of the Ryalkov Pass Incident. Cleverly done in a Blair Witch style documentary. Really worth watching with what's on Roku ATM.

Also, Bigfoot: The Lost Coast Tapes, also on Hulu. Another cleverly done Blair Witch style documentary. Nice builup with good characters.

Both of these are great Halloween horror flicks. Both modern settings with intriguing theories about portals and wormholes.

The trick I use to select a good Roku flick is to Google the movie title followed by movie review. Go to the IMDb movie review site and go to the comments by non movie critics. If you can find a movie that has mostly meh comments but one or two comments that say something like,"I don't know what these people saw, but I saw a brilliant, subtle movie"... choose that movie. I don't trust critics and I don't trust 90% of the comments from regular folk, but if one person can stand up and say "you guys are idiots, this is a great movie", then I trust that recommendation.

Just watched that movie based on this post...Thank you.

Gosling's character was hilarious, and he made me an instant fan when he did the classic Lou Costello stammering upon seeing the dead guy at the porn party. Nobody has ever tried to replicate that and he pulled it off flawlessly. I love that this movie took chances like that. I could go on, but I've spoiled enough.

    Thanks again, great call!

We started watching Swiss Army Man this past weekend, was open to a quirky movie but couldn't see it getting to a point where it was worth watching/finishing. Made it to about the 20 minute mark.

Yep, I just got back from seeing Fantastic Beasts at IMAX. brought wife and 2 kids and we all loved it.
As much as I enjoyed the Harry Potter movies, the main drawback was the main characters (kids) were never good actors/actresses. In this movie, Eddie Redmayne was fantastic IMO. the rest of the cast were all very good as well. The creatures were beautiful
