I found several of the conclusions in that article to be questionable.

I don't know that the game plan was conservative b/c they didn't trust Tannehill. My understanding was that the game plan going in had more deep shots, but that the Stills' illness and Parker struggles changed that.

The OL runs quite a bit of inside zone as well. Claiming we only run the outside zone is inaccurate.

This staff has used constraint plays well all season. They've been particularly good at making second half adjustments. Calling them "not strategic" in their play calling is not a characterization I'd agree with.

The CBs we have aren't all cover 2 types. Mixing up coverages to confuse the offense and putting your CBs in the style they play best in is an example of good coaching rather than bad coaching.

Obviously you want your blitzes to be effective. But IMO they were. That Phillips INT was an example of a secondary blitz that was effective even though they didn't get the sack.

I have been very impressed with the coaching. Like every other aspect, they need to continue to improve, but I would say that in most games going forward I feel pretty good that we won't be at a coaching disadvantage. It's been a long time since I felt that way.

I agree with you on all points but the issue with Stills leaving the game and Parker being plain ineffective were huge. Parker has been so invisible this season outside of the 1st game I wish they would just shut him down for the rest of the month in the hopes he could get that hamstring of his to heal. He is not doing us any good out there the way he is. I'd rather they play Carroo instead, hell, anyone!

You can certainly criticize some of the playcalling, but one thing that counts a lot and isn't mentioned in the article is that Gase has the players playing with intensity and (apparently) believing in what he's trying to do. Players don't just play at high intensity regardless of coach.

As rafael said, we may not have the persistent coaching disadvantage we used to have.

My only beef vs. Jets was letting time run out the first half with two time outs.

If anything tells you how Gase feels about Tannehill, it's his disgust and frustration at the end of the half.

"Coaching Lacking"??? Didn't care to read it after seeing something that out of whack with whats been a great coaching job. For gosh sakes the NFL website had an article about Gase as a darkhorse candidate for COTY if we stay on this path.

I disagree vehemently with the title, but after reading the article it echoes some areas that I still have concerns about.

I think that it would be better for the phins if Clyde Christiansen starts calling plays sooner rather than later. There has been so much about the phins that have needed to be fixed I don't think Gase has been giving the offensive game planning and game calling as much thought as he would if he were purely the OC, and even with CC doing whatever he does there are signs that the offensive scheming isn't clicking together the way it should.

Having said that having Gase calling plays, listening to input from players and adjusting his games calling accordingly has been a net positives I far. It's just that going forward it will be easier if the offense comes out of one head rather than 2.

But seriously Gase has made great strides as a HC in turning around the phins.
    A) The fact that Brandon Albert came out and said that the west coast trip is not a holiday is a huge indictment against the prior regime. A Patriots player would never think of saying that to the media because it isn't part of their culture. The fact that a senior member of the Dolphins feels the need to say it is a demonstration that under the previous regimes long road trips were treated by some players as holidays. We all know that Gase is a big part of changing this attitude.
    B) players no longer feel a sense of entitlement. Some examples, Jay Ajayi sulking after not being named the starter, the purgees not improving after being warned to step up their games. This gives a sense of the Dolphins being a team where players felt le titled to starting positions and/or roster spots without having to earn them.
    C) Players can earn their way out of the doghouse. Guys like Maxwell and Ajayi have responded positively to the tough love and have earned back starter roles they had lost. It's not enough to punish bad behavior, you need to reward good behavior too and the players really seem to be getting the carrot and the stick.
    D) Young players are being developed and being given an opportunity to play. We're seeing it in the secondary, we're seeing our rookies contributing.

Essentially the non-game planning and play calling side of things comes across as being done well.

I will strongly argue that the strategizing/setting things up for later is being done well. The examples that best show this are the Kenny Stills deep ball TD opportiunities against Seattle and Buffalo. Against Seattle that play was designed to exploit a tendency from the empty backfield look, Seattle reacted as if it was going to be a short pass and the play design, coupled with going short on earlier empty backfield looks opened Stills up for the home run. Against Buffalothey had threatened long balls to Stills several times, so both the corner and safety played deep, the pass was deliberately under thrown (if thrown to hit Stills in stride it would have been a throw into Double coverage and whatever you may think of Tannehill that's something he never does on deep balls) allowing Stills to come back for a big gain as the two defenders overran on the threat of the deep ball. There are plenty of other examples but those are clear nutshell examples of strategizing to set up plays based on earlier looks.

    That person is an idiot-

Was it growing pains, or was it our almost our entire offensive line being on injured reserve? Because I don't think there's a Dolphins fan anywhere that doesn't understand that....yet this dude doesn't. So whatever else he may have said, it's not based on fact and I'm just not interested.

Gase has made play calling adjustments for sure.

I completely agree with the article. Coaching has not been great. Took them to long to realize Ajayi was the guy, their defensive scheme is not working and is not suited to the players strengths especially the linebackers and secondary. There are too many rink and dink passes on offense, not enough slants, posts, fades and fly routes being thrown to. Sooner or later defenses are going to pick up on the short outside passes and jump on them. We almost had a pick six in the last game were it not for the defender dropping the interception.

Too many penalties as well a big part of that is bad coaching and discipline. I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt up till now since its their first year and they are on a learning curve, but they need to adjust fast and do a better job going forward.

Did you give Joe Philbin 8 gms before you made up your mind?. This is a process, let it play out. Things are getting better and the arrow is pointing up....enjoy the ride

That's why I said I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and more time to prove themselves. However that doesn't take away from the fact that they have not done a great job of coaching up till now.

I also feel they are playing some guys out of position, I think Albert and Tunsil should switch positions, Tunsil is better suited to tackle and Albert is better suited to guard, especially at his age. They are not using Parker well, they have thrown zero fades to him which would take advantage of his size and ball skills. I think they need to move Suh around more, put him more on the right side to confuse the o line and avoid double teams.

Of course he has...just like every other head coach in the league. That doesn't mean anything when you're being forced to start 3rd string linemen.
