This game sold me more on Gase, totally agree with Brad on RT, RT had an RT game, with the exception of the final pass, too many times in the past he would miss that pass, but lets not forget that was an easy pass, that SHOULD be made.

The final 2 drives were typical RT scoring drives, helped by penalties, and great individual play, with RT not having to make any difficult throws, everything nice and easy and short, the longest pass in those last 2 drives was 14 yds, and Stills had to dive to get to that ball, very nice catch.

It was nice to see RT hit on that final pass though, that is improvement, because he doesn't usually make that throw in that situation, he has screwed that up too many times, I hope it's going to give him some confidence that he can build on, because I still have to be convinced he's worth 20 mil.

I was criticized for a post last week, and I'll be criticized for this...but this was very, very similar to Wilson's games in his first few seasons. Heck, very much like the stinker he had in the playoffs that got me a 24 hour ban, where he was absolutely awful through 3 1/2 quarters but made a couple plays late for then to win, and people crowed about how clutch he was.

Now Tannehill does it, and "we need more consistency." Like I said last week, it seeasy to me that Gase is trying to groom Tannehill the way Carroll groomed Wilson, and it seems to be working.

71% completion percentage for the game.

One pick that was clearly a push off. Tanny placed it perfectly.

Took vicious hits, as per usual.

    In rainy weather...

2 TD's in the last two possessions. Only missing one throw.

Am I going to have to break out another 'naysayers' thread?

Oh, and btw, the Rams haven't given up a TD in 11quarters.

Edit#2- and this franchise has never come back on the road, trailing by as many as we did in the fourth quarter, EVER!

Edit#3- and this franchise has never come back after being shut out after 3 quarters, EVER!

Oh look, the Tannehaters who all just wanted Thill to take over a game and win it in the end who also believe W/L record is a QB stat....give credit to Gase and nothing to Thill.

    I for one am shocked....SHOCKED....

I don't think we can ask for the team to compete this year with the best team in the game to accurately judge...you have to account a time frame and projection..like building a team and how long is a fair relative time frame to compete at this highest level..at this point they are ahead of schedule.

Tannehill at last after 4 1/2 year is truly playing like a franchise qb.I don't know if its because of himself or gase but who cares.
He is running when the play breaks down and most importantly playing big when the games on the line. Not much more you can ask for.

Talk about a knee jerk reaction. He has a terrible three and a half quarters and because he FINALLY pulls one out, now he is the man. The team is playing better ever since the coach made people accountable. All the better playing came after he dismissed two OL that were not performing. All of a sudden, the rest of the team realized this coaching staff is demanding results. RT has been playing better since we changed our offensive philosophy and it's a win win for us. This 5 game winning streak is solely on the back of a good coach who is changing the culture. RT did what he was supposed to do, help win games. It's been 5 years. Let's hope he can improve and continue to do it and not annoint him the next tom brady after a win against a good D.

Yeah, you're right, the win streak didn't coincide with getting the oline healthy again. it's not like we were 1-4 or something, prior to getting the oline healthy.

Regardless, you almost have to treat this like Tannehill's rookie year. New coach, new offense, and Gase is finally doing things to help Tannehill progress. Things that should have happened under Philbin.

I don't agree that Tannehill has ever been likely to miss many passes in clutch situations. He's generally pretty consistent in that regard. What has usually torpedoed the team in those situations was failures by other elements. Far more often you'd see Dallas Thomas or another OL 'ole a block or the receiver would drop the pass or not get open. Or the 3rd and long play call would have all the receivers run routes short of the sticks. That's been my point all along. People have been blaming Tannehill for everything when most of the time it was the other elements that were failing. I don't see this as Tannehill turning some corner. I see this as the as the rest of the team finally turning a corner.

Yea, I can recall at least 5 games where a blindside, untouched edge rusher, sack ended our comeback. Suggs did it, Mario Williams did it multiple times.

That said, it's also an improvement by RT that he's learned that balls gotta be out.

The big key is Sam Young didn't blow it, imo. Colombo, clabo, Jon Martin, these guys gave up sacks in -2 seconds.

Sam Young was at least in position on got his hands on the guy he was blocking. He did pretty good.

Yes, a long INT return, a long KO return, and a lucky short pass that went for a 66 yd TD to Stills are 3 of those comebacks this year.

Rings a little hollow, and these are typical RT comebacks, usually someone else making the plays that count.

EDIT; according to PFR, RT has 9 4th qtr comebacks.

I sat in LA memorial coliseum to watch a boring game. Tannehill was ok by any means not great. you can blame the rain all you want but the rain was not as bad as it appeared on his throws. he is still unable to dissect a defense or diagnose a blitz, when the rams didn't do much at disguising it. I will admit in SD he had me a believer for a moment. Maybe it was the play calling. but all I can say if you want to blame the line for no protection, why is it when hes doing crappy its the lines fault yet when he has 2 good drives the line isn't mentioned? doesn't make any sense. That is where and why tannehill has strived because ajayi is a beast. I just hope he stayes healthy. The play calling was horrendous for 3.5 qrts they need to push the ball down the field early these wide receiver screens aren't working you need to send stills down the field and let parker win his one on ones and let landry do his thing across the middle. Even if thill doesn't complete the deep pass we are not keeping the defense honest and its showing and ajayi needs to be helped out not just hoping he's going to marshawn lynch his way to a first down. In all I think we are going in the right direction but thill is not anywhere a qb should be in his 5th yr he should be using audible's and picking up blitzes early. if he could just recognize blitz's change his protections landry, parker and still would make a killing on one on one matches that's where a "good" to "great" qb distinction comes from. When we start winning tannehill gets all the credit when honestly the real reason we turned it around was win the dolphins gave the ball to ajayi and stopped the committee and solely let ajayi be the beast he is. which in turns helped out thill a lot, any qb needs a good running game. But in all I was not sad I sat in drizzle with snoop and wiz khalifa fo 4 hours good game phins keep it rollin.

I head 9 yesterday during the game, and I heard/saw 12th this morning mentioned in an article. We could argue the validity of those comebacks all day long, the point though I was trying to make... to say he's "finally done it" as if it's never happened before is a bit ridiculous.

Much like this whole argument to me... Football is often referred to as the ultimate team game for a reason. It's beyond one guy. One guy may have more influence than another, but... still. Whatever, this is a slippery slope I'm not about to go down lol

Must be really tough being a "Dolphins FAN" today...all the Tannehill optimism. Really must be a tough day. But keep up hope, Tannehill will have a bad game soon and that big smile will return to your face. Laughable and more importantly sad, that an ever shrinking portion of our fan base still harbors the hate. Winners of 5 in a row, a team and its QB stepping up big time....and we have the same tired group of doubters, still unhappy. And you know what? I don't care in the slightest!!!!. Gonna enjoy every second of this, smiling all the way...others?? not my problem and certainly not my concern

Tannehill had no impact on the game through basically 50mins and then the light came on, which may or may not be attributed to playcalling.

I have such mixed feelings about this one though. I simply refuse to let a near $20 million dollar man have rain and injuries as an excuse. But the end result - putting up 14pts in the final 4 minutes speaks for itself. This was on my checklist to "believing" that I posted about last week. They had no business winning it, but somehow kept it close and took control in the 4th quarter.

Yeah I agree.. I was just pointing out what the goal should really be: a consistent playoff team, as opposed to a team that gives you hope but isn't likely to win it all.

I'll say this though. After KC lost yesterday, a realistic goal for the Dolphins THIS YEAR is making the playoffs. KC plays Denver next, so one team will be 7-4. We beat SF we're 7-4. Conference record is the first tie-breaker after head-to-head (not applicable here) and if it's KC we'll be tied, if it's Denver we're ahead and 6th seed.

Tannehill played clutch yesterday. Time to see if he and this team can play clutch down the stretch. It wasn't realistic to expect playoffs after our bad start this season, but now it is so let's see if this never die attitude (which for me is MUCH more important than great play calling) gets us into the playoffs for the first time in ages!

No one supporting Tannehill has given him all the credit. In fact, we've been arguing all along that if he had half a run game and a half decent oline, Tannehill would be successful.

    And so he has been.

This is pretty much where I got to with this argument a long time ago. It's why I try to stay out of the argument now. I don't see the point. Some people are just never going to be happy. I get it, there's been a lot to criticize the kid for. I've done it, and will continue to do it when it's deserved. Ultimately though... it just becomes pointless to deal with some of these things. It's out of my control... I'm enjoying these wins. The improved play from the OL, the QB, the defense, the improved coaching staff. Whatever happens with Tannehill is going to happen regardless. If the team keeps him, the argument here will go on and some people will be upset as ever. If the team moves on from him, the same thing will happen. So, what's the point. lol Just going to enjoy the ride.

So... rain and injuries are the only things that affected this game? Or... "excuses"

Not one of the top defenses? Or do we just not ever feel the need to factor in, and give any credit to the team were playing. They've won 4 games on the season (IIRC), and they have virtually no offense. That's how good their defense has been.

    From the MMQB:

The best defense in football over the last month (Los Angeles’) was throttling the Dolphins 10-0 with seven minutes left at the Coliseum. For some reason—confidence? stupidity?—quarterback Ryan Tannehill looked at the other 10 guys in the huddle before the first snap and said, “Take a deep breath, everybody. We’re gonna win this game.”

So having rewatched the game, I don't agree with those claiming that Tannehill was more decisive on the last two drives. I counted 4-5 bad passes/decisions in the game prior to those last two drives. That's about what you see from elite QBs in a game. He wasn't getting the ball out quicker or more accurately. The difference was everybody else. The pass pro was better. Stills made the catch on almost the same play he dropped earlier in the game. We ran two WR screens that were well blocked and successful. Parker balled out at the end of the game. And we didn't have any drive stalling penalties.

Not going to take away what he did. Yes he was throttled for 3.5/4 of the game, but St Louis defense does that, and lots of QBs have meh stretches. But he crushed it in those last two drives, and you want to see that. A lot.

When everyone was jumping ship when he was playing bad, I didn't join. I said I would wait until the end of the year. Now people are jumping back on, but I'm holding steady. End of the year. I've never advocated getting rid of Tanny, because he's a starter in this league and you don't get rid of those EVER. Go see what the Browns have recycled through. Or the Rams, etc.

I've always said, I want to see more, but I wouldn't be opposed to adding more QBs, because I think you add more QBs even if you have a great one (see Dallas). I'm with Ron Wolf. You add one every year, even if a project. One devastating hit could leave you with no QB for a year or two or more.

This is a good stretch by Tanny and now, we can control our own destiny and it has to be led by him. It's mid-November guys, no more knee jerk reactions. Let's close this out for our first playoffs in almost a decade (ugh I can't believe it's that long). And hopefully our first win since 2001.

I didn't think Tanny had a bad game. Nor was he all of a sudden spectacular at the end. Parker woke up, is what happened. He's our big play guy (dunno what's gotten into Stills). He's no AJ Green, but without Parker this offense just isn't a big play threat.

Agree with you and Raf both... Tannehill didn't look any different those last 2 drives - everyone else did. I was watching Parker and Stills both suddenly start catching the ball and was shocked that they were suddenly making effort they hadn't put in previously.

Dunno who or what lit a fire up Parker's a**, but it needs to happen every game. He's been a huge disappointment this season. Was nice to see him show and make those catches at the end.

    6-4 and rolling. Let's go 7-4 now.

What I was saying, and I think Gunn as well, is that it's very rare to see RT actually close a game out like that, 4th quarter comebacks are really a team stat, because it doesn't matter how you take the lead, INT return, KO return, a screen that goes for 50yds, a long run, etc, or you could already be on the 15 yd line when the 3rd quarter ends, kick a field goal, and there's a 4th quarter comeback.

My point is, 4th quarter comeback does not = QB heroics, sometimes it does, but sometimes it doesn't, and yesterday is yet another example of that, all RT did on those 2 drives was complete very easy passes, did he do his job? yes, but really, that's all he did, no heroics, Landry, Stills, Parker, Ajayi, the D and the Oline all added some heroics on those final 2 drives, not to mention there was a personal foul on each of those drives, so you can add their D as another part of that puzzle.

RT is a decent QB, I really wouldn't have a problem with him as QB next year, but at half of what he's due to get, my problem is that he's not worth 20 mil, and that he's not elite, and in my book you should always be searching for an elite QB, the one position you should never "settle" for, just imo.

So... we care about 4th quarter comeback wins... but when it happens, there was no QB heroics? It was everyone else, and the Rams penalties. Got it. Cool story bro. Moving on...

I'm not on either side of this debate because I choose not to be. I'm on the fence with him. But that... right there... is just ridiculous.

Sorry but myself and most others strongly disagree with this.

QB is ONE PIECE of the puzzle, one cog in a powerful, smooth running engine. If you're constantly searching for that one piece, that one gear, you'll never finish your puzzle, you'll never get your engine running. We have that piece now, let's focus on the ones that are missing.

If you are always searching for an elite QB, you'll spend your life searching for one and likely will never find one that satisfies you, because the QB by himself will not win it all, you need a TEAM. Look no further than Marino.

Well, unless you'd rather have an elite QB than Super Bowl wins, but to each their own.

It's like myself and others have said for years. ..people on this site have different benchmarks for Tannehill. look no further than the downplaying of the 4th quarter comeback in this thread.

So what you are saying is that settling for a QB is the way to win SBs?

You should check the SB winning QB list again, because the surest way to win a SB is to get an elite QB, and that is fact.
