So we got 3 weeks to decide to promote him to the main roster. Heres the thing, we kept him around for a reason. Even if he can come in and rush the passer to give Williams/Wake a blow...it would be beneficial. If hes better than Fede or Jones, you play him. If not...we stash him.

    No harm no foul.

I mean, I've basically written him off at this point. Anything we can get is pure bonus really.

Like you say, nothing to lose.

I trust Vance Joseph to get his head back in the game and to evaluate his ceiling going forward.

    Well away from here
Listen, let's take a slightly bigger approach to this issue. For instance, what are doing with Branch as he's playing for his next payday on a one year deal. Wake is not getting younger and at some point he will see less production. And behind them we have who exactly?

If we resign Branch it'll be more then the 3 million he's getting now. Mario Williams will likely play hard down the stretch as he's looking to stick around on a team trending upwards and keep his salary. In my thought lines, you let Mario walk, you are 60/40 resigning Branch, and that still leaves you needing someone behind Branch and then someone to play behind Wake/replacing Fede.

The reality is you "really" want to see if there is anything there with Jordan. If he can play the way Branch is playing we save the money and can use the to sign backup onlineman, linebacker etc. the staff is not stupid in this regard and also know that getting 10-15 snaps out of him per game is if he can't match Branch's production is insanely better than a wasted cap casualty on many levels.

If we literally get nothing from Jordan we face some tough decisions next offseason along the dline. Jordan could literally make or break or ability to put a quality rush from the end position next season from a salary cap standpoint.

Something has got to give somewhere.

At this point, whenever I hear about Dion Jordan I need to see a pic of whether he's fat or not to see how seriously to take him.

This is from last Sunday. Doesn't show much-

All I can tell you is, when he got reinstated a few months back the guy was in incredible shape. He spent 6 months at an elite combine in California working out 10+ hours a day, plus he was on a very strict diet with loads of cardio. So I can't tell you what shape he's in today; but he can't be that far out.

I think between our coaching staff, team leadership and Kiko, Jordan will stay focused and on the straight and narrow. Whether he can play or not, remains to be seen, but I truly believe there's a solid chance he's past the issues that suspended him.

Agreed, if he hasn't messed up now....hopefully with the distractions of preparing for nfl football week in and week out, he will be all set.

I'd like to see Dion have another solid game covering Gronk this year. Any pass rush help would be a bonus, but he has the speed and size to match up with any TE. If that was the only thing he did well, I'd be okay with that. So tired of seeing us unable to slow/stop those TE passes.

On the other hand, hopefully the kid has gotten his life in order and is in a better place.

I can't imagine anybody eyeing this news without a heaping spoonful of skepticism, but I agree that the leadership on our team among the coaches and the vets is as good as it has ever been. And I see a strong need at LB, particularly at SSLB. So given that, I see this as Dion's best opportunity to turn it around.

If I remember correctly, this regime told him he'll be a DE, so that's what he's been working towards, so I'd imagine he's too heavy at this point to try LB, although that is what we need WAY more than DE.

I'll be surprised though if he's even activated this year.

VJ just said they see Dion as a DE with some LB thrown in. I wonder what his weight is at?

Considering the TE Bennett for the Pats is 285. I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility he still covers gifted TE's on occasion.

Hopefully, a 275 lb. Dion can hold up better at DE. Can't wait for feedback from Joseph on his status.

Until proven otherwise, this guy is a puddin' pop and one of the worst draft picks in franchise history. He needs to get his **** together in an awful hurry because despite his potential he has shown next to nothing on the rare occasion he has actually been on the field. I hated this draft pick when the ginger haired one made it and Ive hated it more ever since.

I sure hope they can get something out of this waste of roster space because he has been pathetic so far.

If they can make Devante Parker useful, I'm a tad bit optimistic they can make Jordan useful. But this has to be his last chance. I cant think of anyone else that has given this many opportunities with one franchise with how little he has contributed in the NFL.

Stronger team leadership - both coaches and players - may definitely help, but ultimately it is all about his mindset. I am not super familiar with his situation aside from knowing THAT he took the drugs, but not really why. Was he just being a lazy bum? Is his heart not into it at all? Is he only thinking of coming back long enough to score a check before cashing out again?

Or was there an underlying issue that has been treated/addressed and he is now good to go. A depression or other mental issue he felt the need to self medicate, or even a physical pain that he needed.

If the latter situation, he has a higher degree of sticking around. Whatever path he chooses, I hope he comes out OK. But selfishly, I do hope he can put together a career and show he has turned a corner in his life. As Con has noted, we really could use the help at the position.

Wake has been saying he's been working with him; while noting that he also had a late start in the game at age 27 (with Dion now being 26).

I would hope if ANYONE gets to him, it's Wake. You can't get a better role model!

I think the 'Sunk Cost' fallacy fits both sides of this argument and could be a distraction from both directions as well.
On the positive end: you're going to give him too much rope because you sank a 3rd pick on him (and the picks you traded to move up to 3) and all your evaluation will be shaded by this desire to recoup your losses.
The other side is that you're still angry about the disappointment he's been up to this point and you can't wait to just cut bait on him and 'punish' him for the failure he's been.
Hopefully Miami just completely pays no heed to the 'sunk cost' that he's been and can just evaluate him for what he's capable of doing moving forward...or can't do moving forward. Hopefully, it's the former.

If Gase truly practices what he preaches about giving guys a clean slate, it'll definitely be the former.

Dallas Thomas / Billy Turner not only having roster spots to start the year but actually having gotten any playing time, more than proves the "clean slate philosophy." Dude was willing to set aside mountains of lowlight film of these two to afford them a chance to earn a living.

Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan won’t be activated and won’t play this season, per multiple reports.

Jordan, who’s on the Dolphins’ non-football injury list, was able to return to the field in late November and practice for the first time in two years. He was suspended for the whole 2015 season for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance policy.

Tuesday marked the deadline for the Dolphins to make a roster decision on Jordan, who’s on the NFI list due to a knee injury.

The third overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft, Jordan has three sacks in 26 career games.

Well i guess we will see what he can do with a full year and offseason workouts and under Adam Gase. No need to rush him back in and get hurt / cost us in playoff situation if he's not ready physically and mentally.

Well.... at least we don't need him to cover Gronk. A high first and a second rounder for this guy. Hoping for the long shot turnaround for Jordan under Gase, next year.
